Best Buy

Sony 50-Pack 16x DVD+R/-R - $12.99

CompUSA

Sony 50-Pack 16x DVD+R/-R - $12.99
Memorex 25-Pack 4x DVD+RW - $9.99

Staples

Playo 60-Pack 16x DVD+R/-R - $6.98 AR

OfficeMax

Verbatim 10-Pack 2.4x DL DVD+R - $14.99 (regular price)
Verbatim 50-Pack 16x DVD+R/-R - $12.99
OfficeMax 50-Pack 16x DVD+R/-R - $13.99

K-Mart

FYI, there are new reports that Sony 8x +R MIJ disks, which are always Taiyo Yuden, can also be found at K-Mart, in addition to the usual stash at Sears.

Sears

Sears is one of the few places that still has a regular stock of older Sony 8x +R MIJ media, which is made by Taiyo Yuden. Use the prices at other stores to get a 110% price match.

I just picked up 5 spindles of Verbs at Office Max this past week. While the temptation is there to get them while you can, I think I will pass this week on Verbs....

The last time they had 20 DLs for $30 I bought 3 spindles but I don't find all that many movies I need them for. I usually just keep the movie itself and no menus.

That's because you're mixing the two different spindles. For whatever reason, the 20 spindle pack is the 30 dollar one. The times I have seen the 15 spindle pack is was more expensive (when you do the math). Why the difference in price? God only knows--but it's probably because people get roped into spending 28 for 15 instead of the 30 for 20. Yes, I am serious.

The regular price for a 10-pack at OfficeMax is only $15 (that's equivalent to a 20-pack for $30).

Well, one thing I noticed is that 15 pack on sale this week are 8X DL, where the previous sales could have been only 4X DL.

Yes, Sears price matches 110%.

K-Mart apparently does not price match, but it may depend on your store.

Thanks Negritude.
I went to Sears yesterday and found 3 spindles of Sony DVD+R 1-8X (Taiyo Yuden). I took my Best Buy ad and they price matched + 10%. The Best Buy product code was different but I just talked my ass off and hoped they didn't notice. It worked! I got 3 spindles for just under $40.

That shouldn't matter. The UPC for the 8x +R and the 16x +R Sony media is EXACTLY the same (the same with the -R media). I've never had a problem getting a price match because of a product code. As far as Sony and the computer system is concerned, the media is the same.

Hello Everyone ! I was at SEARS and they had the 1x - 8x Sony DVD -R's with the mij ocatagnal spacer on top. My question is I know the dvd+r's with the mij ocatagnal 1x-8x are TY's, but is the same true for the dash R's? Should I get them? /Unjust

The 8x DVD-R's are not TY's. The 16x DVD-R's with the octagonal spacer however are.

Any Sony media with an octagonal spacer is TY:

8x -R = TYG02

16x -R = TYG03

8x +R = YUDEN000 T02

16x +R = YUDEN000 T03

Any Sony media with a white round spacer is MIJ and made by Sony.

Any Sony media with a grey round spacer is MIT and made by Daxon.

It's all really very simple.

Once again:

White + Octagonal = TY

White + Round = Sony MIJ

Grey + Round = Sony MIT

I've never seen any Ty-G02 on the Sony dash 1x-8x. They always coded as Sony08D1 and i've never seen any tubs with the white/octagon spacer.

The -1x-16x,I burned a couple tubs of those Ty-G03.

Here's the codes on over a 1000 sony discs that I have used:

SONY

-4X MADE IN TAIWAN/Austria: SONY04D1
-8X MADE IN TAIWAN/JAPAN: SONY08D1
-16X MADE IN JAPAN: TY-G03

+4X MADE IN TAIWAN: RICOHJPN-R01
+8X MADE IN TAIWAN: SONYD12
+8X MADE IN JAPAN: YUDEN000-T02
+16X MADE IN JAPAN/TAIWAN: SONYD21

All very good media except those blasted Austrian discs, LOL.

I have. They exist. I and other people have bought them. They are rare, but they are real. As I said before, if you find an octagonal spacer on a pack of Sony media, it is TY, no matter what.
