I've been using Memorex 16x DVD-R and have had no problems at all. Burning at 8x gives perfect results.

if it's stamped "made in japan," odds are it's fairly reliable. verbatim and taiyo yuden are the way to go.
stay the hell away from memorex. it may burn fine, but unless you really luck out, it won't last.

99 times out of 100, memorex discs are cmc mags. if you need more info, do a search.
*edit*
you guys don't seem to get that companies like tdk, maxell, memorex, etc just buy and rebadge media from different companies; things aren't consistent unless stamped "made in japan". taiyo yuden makes their own brand; verbatim buys tayo yuden and makes their own. these are the two most lasting makers.

What you lot don't understand (exlcuding Auslander) is that the dyes used in the manufacture of disks that companies that TDK, Memorex etc brand as their own are of a very poor quality. You may have good burns to start with, but as the shoddy dye deteriates over time, the data is either corrupted or lost and you end up with a nice, shiny Coaster.
I'm always seeing people posting "I've had no problems with memorex - use them" in threads like this and they're always posts by people who don't have a clue and know the facts. Sure, you may know how to FTP an Xbox with your eyes closed or solder a ps2 with your hands behind your back, but get your stuff straight if you want to blab on about how "good" memorex are.

bit harsh that....
not sure it was called for - he asked which dvds we used, we replied
you could have passed your considerable knowledge on without insulting those who took the time to respond
thanks though... i learned something about disc branding from you and auslander

Yes, maybe some of it could have been rephrased and a little less sarcastic, but after a while you get tired of trying to tell people not to buy Memorex etc and then explaining why.
Sorry if I came accross too brash, then.

very easy to create flaming wars in bbs boards through not communicating in the correct manner
a smiley goes a long way to denote humour :)

which of the 2 you guys recomended is better for a sony dvd burner, because one guy with a sony burner gave taiyo yuden a bad review just wondering if its a problem on his end or a problem with sony.
thanks

i use a pioneer burner so not best suited to comment on burner brands compatibility with sony + discs
On some sites you can buy a taster pack with a few different brands of disc in a pack - might be worth a try

Just use Verbatim or Tayo Yuden DVD-R works great.. and the difference of these brands to others is that these ones last longer.
