ive put a vcd to a dvd disc but i am unable to play it on my dvd player i know my player plays vcd as well as dvd i tried it on a friends player and it played perfectly so i was wondering if the dvd player needs to support dvd vcd or not its got me stumped ne help plz

I assume you mean a standalone player? The format will be recognised as DVD not VCD since the movie is on a DVD disc. If it doesn't play on your player try burning the movie again to a different disc type. Sometimes there are compatibility problems between certain disc makes and standalone players.

If your player doesn't play it now, then it won't play it with different media.
To solve the problem, just re-encode the VCD to a DVD compliant format then author and burn using TMPGEnc DVD Author!

i ried tempgenc reauther but it wont recognize the mpeg2 file

You have to re-encode the mpeg2 file into the DVD compliant format first, then use TMPGEnc DVD Author to make and burn the DVD.

Use the MainConcept mpeg encoder to re-encode your mpeg2 file. Go to simpleguides.tk and download it from the tools section.

I've had a similar problem....tiz irritating. My SONY stand-alone (which clearly sez on the front of it that it is VCD compliant) will not even recognize a VCD disc at all. However, a friend of mine with a $52 generic DVD player can view them with no problem.

That doesn't suprise me at all. Most of the cheapie DVD players are actually the most compatible and represent good value for money.

Actually,
You do not have to reencode VCD files to put them on a blank DVD. However, you have to:

1) Author it as a DVD title-set via a DVD authoring program. DO NOT use Nero or VCDEasy to simply author a larger VCD titleset (VCD format MPEG1 video files are completely compatible with the DVD format)

2) Resample the audio to DVD frequency (this is the only thing making your file unacceptable). TMPGEnc DVD Author will automatically resample the audio for you when you import the file.
