Just got some deals on DVD +Rs today.
Best Buy has Verbatim +R X16 for $11.99/50> code out as MCC-004s
Office Depot Store brand +R X16(not Ativas) $9.99/50> code out as Ritek F16-001s
Best Buy DYNEX X8 +R DLs (don't laugh) $16.99/15> code out as RicohJpn D01s made in Hong Kong.
*Thru DVD Identifier and have not tried the Dls yet. Almost a buck apiece. I might have 15 coasters but wanted to see since Verbatims not on sale
WARNING!!!
On checking the Verbatim +R X2.4 DLs (normally purple and gold pack.) they were made in INDIA. The newer 8X DLs were in another color pack. and were made in Singapore.

I bought the Dynexs about a year ago at BB coded out at Ricos at 4x was like 10 for $4.99. Not a coaster and still play well to this day burnt on the Plextor and Benq. Let us know how these do. Chris

Thanks moony!! Got some Verbs (MCC 004) and some of the DL Dynex. Just wanted to try them for giggles. You never know they may work just fine. Like you said there was NO other DL on sale. :) btw they had one case (15 pack) of the 2.4X left on the same price. MIHK mid, you know what these are?? I'm guessing the same maker but have NO clue. NOT up at all on the DL media. I'm just now venturing out into that arena. :P

Yeah greensman, the 8X Dynex DLs were made in HongKong too. At least the ones I got today were. Chris above said he had no problems with them. They're Ricoh so they can't be all that bad, as he crosses himself. LOL
Like I said in above post, the verbatim 2.4s were made in India and the 8X were made in Singapore(the good stuff).

1. You must have missed the fact that Office Depot has their house brand of DL media on sale for $27.99 in the 25-pack.
2. The OD brand media in the 50-pack should have rung up at $4.99, not $9.99, if you bought them in-store.
3. All Verbatims code out the same in North America, irrespective of country of origin. That's never a surprise. All single-layer +R Verbatims are MCC004, whether they are made in India, Taiwan, or elsewhere. There's much more to understanding media quality than the codes.
4. I'm not sure whether the Dynex DL media are genuine Ricohs, or whether they just use a fake media code. TDK 8x DL disks have the same code, but they are genuine Ricohs made in Taiwan.

You're right about the $4.99 price of the Office Depot branded DVDs. I would have bought some more if I had noticed they charged 1/2 the price as the paper ad. I bought these for my daughter as I use TYs and Verbs for myself.

For whatever it's worth I used a Spindle of TDK DVD+R's a while back 4X speed which coded out as Ricohjpns and found them excellent burned 100 of the 100ct. spindle with no Coasters ! Also I'm sure that other esteemed afterdawn members know much more about DVD Media than myself ! But I was always under the impression that any Media Made in Hong Kong Was essentially a No-N0 !!!!!!!!!!!!! Japan Yes !!! Taiwan Depending on mfr. Yes !Sinapore For Verbatims DL media yes ! To be Fair I've either only Bought Made in Japan when I could ( Sony, Fuji Maxell , Taiyo Yudens !!!!!!) or Made in taiwan from selected Manufacturers ( Ritek , Ricohjpns . Verbatims , SOny !!!!! IF I see India , Malaysia , or any other country That I don't recognize as a area known for DVD media Production !!! I Do like Dionne WarWicke & walk on Buy !!!!!!!

I don't know much about the DL media out right now. Only thing that I've read is the Verbatim DL media is the thing to go with but you know about media and people's preferences. :)
I think that TY's and Verb's are about the best SL media out there but LIKE I said DL media and myself are not well acquainted. :D
Is the Ricoh DL media worth buying. I know about MIHK and YES I purchased some of the Dynex stuff for trials because it was about $1.15 each. I'm sure it'll end up costing me like $2.50 each but we all have to live and learn, RIGHT??
Anyway long post to ask about one piece of media. TIA!!

whats ^^^^^ guys and gals, we all know about the dl verbs, but how do these DYNEX X8 +R DLs hold up against the verbs. i'm think about picking some up togay.
how would these dynex dl do on game backups.( your own games)

personally in DL media I would say Verbatims are the Shiznit !!!! They were the 1st They are the best IMHO ! atleast until The Taiyo Yudens get a little Less Expensive and available in quantities under 100 @ time only ! ( Taiyo Yudens Making DL media now but you have to purchase them in quantities of 100 @ about 3.00 or so a piece ! I Know Taiyo yuden makes The best Media but I'll wait till there are a few more user reports on them Meantime I'll stick with the verbatims for my limited DL burns !

They're only 16.99 try a batch and let us know how they do, greensman and I have each bought a box for experimentation.
Like I pointed out, Look at the Verbatim DL made in ? to avoid buying the Verbs I saw yesterday made in INDIA at Best Buy. The 2.4X speed +R DLs. Look for MIS(ingapore).

I tried the Dynex DL media on 2 BenQ1650s and an LG2166D. The LG got to 87% and crapped out. Fist BQ spit out the disc before writing and the second BQ froze at 50%-layer break(on same disc). So much for quality.
Edit: using X4 speed and ImgBurn with AnyDVD

Buy One Get one free - The Store add says $9.99 @Least online anyway ! & Do you think That the $4.99 deal is just a Local { Your area sell down } or nation wide ? I was leaning towards getting more Verbatims @ BestBuy ( Gotta love'em !!!!!) But Hey if I can Get Twice as much media in OfficeDepot For The same price or cheaper even I'm There then Dude ! Oops sorry I mean 'Tude !!!!!!!!!!!. Also is there a Quantity limit ? I'm not going to buy out the shelves by any means but I might Get me 8 packs to add to my leaning tower of Media ! I should feel lucky then that the 2 Dynex DL's that I've done work so far. LOL. I will say this, "That was the first and last time that I buy MIHK media!!!" LOL. Nobodies fault but mine, I know.

The Only dealings I have had With Dynex have been With Bestbuy's Black friday sale last year They were selling them cheap & I Figured on buying a spindle to experiment with & Try out ! By the time I got into the store itself They were gone everyone had them in their carts but the shelves were empty ! I found a spindle in an aisle that was blocked off But The bestbuy girl wanted to Charge Me full price { No way & Nevermind } Another associate said that they were giving them away free but ran out !!! I also heard from my son-in-law that people were returning the spindles in droves as well ! Granted They were SL Disc and not The DL ones you tried but Same Brand ! - Needless to say the whole thing left a Sour taste in my mouth ! I like best buy most of the time for their Media sales on good Brands Verbatim,Sony , ect... But I find they get real Hinky during the Black friday sales !!! Nothing wrong with experimenting with something new if the price is right!But For me in Specialty media { Lightscribe or DVD+R DL) I'll stick with verbatims !!! . In all fairness to the Dynex DLs, on the 4th disc attempt, the LG managed to write-4X-ImgBurn- the disc without problems. It's first failed attempt may have been interrupted by nasty Windows XP update-I thought I had blocked access before writing??-but it was downloading. Can windows just ignore Symantec's block access command? Have not watched the movie and will try to get the BenQ to write one agian later.

Negritude-Thanks for the heads up on the OFFICEDEPOT DVD+R"s !!!!! Was out & about !! { OOT & ABOOT !!!!!!!!!!} For our canadian friends & Went to one OFFICEDEPOT & they confirmed that yes they are on sale @ he price you mentioned $4.99 per Spindle But that they sold out so I asked them to check the other stores & They did went to the next Officedepot & Bought 8 packs That's 400 Dvd+r's for about what I would've ended up paying for 200 Verbs or actually a little bit less ! Granted They are'nt Verbatims or taiyo yudens But at .10 cents ea. + Tax I can live With Ricohjpns & Riteks which actually are'nt that bad ! Anyhow thanx again & Happy burning !!!!!!!!!!!!
