I see number of sites providing torrents of ps3 and ps2 games. What is the use of those torrents. I heard that PS3 has advanced means to avoid all these things. Is that correct if so what is the use of these torrents.

Practically every gaming console has been modded to allow playback of game backups. It's only a matter of time before it happens to the PS3. And BTW you can already playback ps2 backups with a mod chip.
