Here's something interesting.
Same movie, same disks but burned at 2.4x. You'd think it would be a better burn than the one above.

Here's the same disk rescanned with the forced Hyper tuning turned off for the scan only.

hobbit112, its not unusual ar all to get a better score with a higher burn speed. to a point that is
We shall go to the end,we shall fight in France,we shall fight on the seas and oceans,we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air,we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,we shall fight on the beaches,we shall fight on the landing grounds,we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,we shall fight in the hills;we shall never surrender

Considering these are 2.4x rated disks I was surprised that the 4x burn scanned out better. My past results with overburning disks hasn't been good. But then, these are Verbs.
BTW, the 57 scan disk played fine with only one stutter which I thought was at the layer break.

No posts since the Twelveth!
Here's some new scans:
Lite-On scan:

Benq Scan (same disk):

Lite-On Scan:

Benq scan (same disk):

I'm still grappling with the issue of different scores for different drives. Apparently, CD Speed has some sort of table in it's coding that tells it how to interpret the information it receives from the various drives. It appears that CD Speed thinks my Benq drive understates the total PIFs compared to the Litey but overstates the peaks?
I'd think that CD Speed would be able to adjust their internal table to more evenly report the Quality Score across the various drive manufacturers so that the Score has more meaning.

No.
Actually they are 8x Imations. No idea what store they came from, my brother sent them to me so I could compete a project for him which he couldn't do. He was trying to convert 2+ hour VHS tapes into single 4.7Gig DVDs on a Sony standalone machine and had no sucess so I received a package on my doorstep without warning filed with VHS tapes, the cake box of Imations, and about 1/2 dozen crappy Memorex printable DVDs.
What a guy.
Nice scan BTW, Unjust. What did you use to burn it and @ what speed?

Been busy lately but I'm still doin a movie now and then. :)
Here's Arthur and the invisibles, it got bad reviews but the kiddies have watched it 3 times today and I don't think it's that bad. :)
On a TDK 003 and very low PIE's. Not bad for this media. Burned with the Pioneer DVR-112L. :)

Hope all is going well for everyone. ;)
Nice scans hobbit, Unjust, and cincyrob!!! :)

I actually watched Arthur and the Invisibles - but I have no little kiddies as an excuse :)
I really liked it - very cute movie.
Here's one I liked recently but not for kids at all - Pan's Labyrinth.
Maybe I'll do a scan soon :)

Hey cincyrob! Yep the kiddies do take up some of our precious blank DVD's but it's better than buying new originals. :)
I had to post this movie again. It's a new burn with the same media, burner, and image. Amazing how one little spike can affect the outcome so much.

More to come later. Been doing some transcoding/encoding lately. :)

Here's a new scan of a TY burn. Not too great of a score for TY media, but it's the first burn of this media on this drive.
Think it was an ImgBurn @ 8x. If I remember correctly, ImgBurn stated it could be burned upto 20x, but I decide to be conservative.
Suggestions on how I should burn this media?

Here's another one, but a Ritek DL burn. Again, burned with ImgBurn, but @2.4x
Still think there Ritek has a problem with the media after the layer break.
I have a weird scan of a DL burn where the peaks are reverse, i.e., on the first layer. Will have to find that scan and post (it's on another computer).

Got some Verb DL's coming, looking forward to those burns.
Can't find any decent specials on Verb DL inkjet printables though. They are EXPENSIVE!

hobbit,
conservative me: I would stick with the 8X burn for now. I'm not saying going to 12, 16, or even 20 times burning won't give you decent results but I KNOW for sure that burning at 8X normally gives you better burns. :)
daring me: NOW going outside of the norm, I would try some experimentation with speeds on your burns. I've seen good results as high as 20X but not every burn. I look at the average when burning.
The TYG03 media is one of the best to push to the limit fyi. Try some at 12X and 16X to see what you get. :) We all have different puters and therefore different results so only you can determine which speed is best for you, your burns, and your puter. :)
