Hello i resently downloaded tmpeg encoder and i have avi files which i can not encode at all.I'm not sure if it's me or the file im trying to encode as im new to all this stuff as ive already said in earlier post's.The files im trying to encode are full movies they are dvd rip's.Here is some info on the file's im trying to encode 1.AUDIO FORMAT MPEG LAYER-3/FRAME RATE 23 FPS. When i use tmpegenc it says WRITE ERROR OCCURRED AT ADDRESS 77F83A91 OF MODULE 'NTDLL.DLL' WITH 00000000. What does this mean ?? Can anyone help me is it because it is ntsc and im changeing the format to pal vcd?? Other files i have are also dvd rips and i get similar messages when trying to encode. Is there any way to resolve this problem i feel im at the end of my teather!!! lol. Do i need an encoder that changes ntsc to pal ?? I havent a clue any help would be greatly appreciated. CHEERS!!!!!

well TMPGEnc can not convert NTSC/Pal properly, If you try it your Files will play back Jumpy..But that isn"t your Problem, I think your Problem is that the AVI file you are encodeing is an XviD file and TMPGEnc and the xvid codec don"t get allong very well..The only way I have been able to over come this was to first Install the "FFDshow Decoder" and Configure it to decode XviD files, then try to encode the File with TMPGEnc But if that doesn"t help I would use "Virtual Dub" to frame serve" the AVI file to TMPGEnc...You will Probably have to use Virtual dub at some Point cuz the Audio In your AVI file could be VBR Mp3 and TMPGEnc doesn"t like that audio format so you will Probably have to extract the audio from the AVI file to Wav format and use the Wav file as the audio source...Once you are able to get TMPGEnc to encode your File you should read this on Converting NTSC/Pal: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/55489 ...
In there I sort of explain PAL to NTSC but it works the same for NTSC to PAL but it isn"t easy....Good Luck

If it plays back in Windows Media Player just fine, download Windows Media Encoder free from MS and convert the file to wmv format. This will run fine in TMPGEnc.

Comp 2: Dell Dimension P3 550Mhz / 384MB RAM with old 2x CD-RW running XP Home.

Why would someone Encode there files to WMV before encodeing to Mpeg??? WMV is an extremely Lossy Format which will only serve to Ruin any Quality your AVI file has...If your AVI file Plays Fine But TMPGEnc just won"t encode it Properly then I would sugest that you uncompress the Divx/XviD file to AVI format useing the HuffyUV codec...This will also encode Fine in TMPGEnc and you will not loose any Quality going from DivX/XviD to HuffyUV.....Cheers

If you don't like the challenge of using TMPGEnc + Virtual Dub and maybe even Headac3he (if audio is ac3), then get yourself the latest version (1.4) of the Main Concept MPEG Encoder. The quality is near, or equal TMPGEnc, the speed is much faster, and even though TMPGEnc has way more settings, etc; the latest version of Main Concept, when you learn to use it (their site has a good forum), has quite a few settings/configurations available. Plus it accepts XviD or DivX with mp3 or ac3 audio (if you have the proper codecs installed)and the latest version now converts between 25 and 30 frames/sec (and vice versa), with no problems noted so far by me.
