That means your drive is about to die, you can find a new one for very cheap online, just google ipod hard drive and you can find it. check this website, you can shop around.

i have read that Allegedly the sad face display is supposed to indicate a hardware issue

well i have heard that sad face means problem with the hard drive, take a look at this apple document and see if your ipod fall into one of those categories. Good Luck

same thing happened to me and I was out of warranty, your hard drive is busted.

I got mine working in ten minutes its kinda funny and skeptical but its your only hope.

put the ipod in the palm of your hand with the screen facing up and try not to put ur palm on the screen.

Then go up to your bed and smack it fairly hard against the bed once then listen if the clicking goes away then congrats if not try again for me it took 6 smacks.
