HI All,
Will that antenna with the power supply and the down convertor work for chorus MMDS analogue? My parents live in ashbourne co meath and I was going to buy it for them with the eurovox TX. Money is tight after Xmas so I don't want to go splashing out for this if it won't work?
Anyone any ideas how many channels you will get with this setup.
Will it pick S** Movi** etc.
Thanks
Sham

Hi , bought this aerial , http://www.satandcable.co.uk/s/product_i...&products_id=83
Cant seem to pick up NTL in Swords on it , i know they use NTL mmds by the airport and in nearby lusk and its works on any eurovox. Im getting good levels of 85% to 95% but no transponders on a scan .Can anyone help do i need the new tx box?

What box are you using? if it is a eurovox have you used power scan on full. Also you need may need to do a factory reset, when you do this make sure the default you choose is symbol rate 6887 for N*L.

I think Swords is actually Chorus MMDS, can someone confirm? Then you would need the TX

I am 99% sure that Swords is chorus MMDS.
Some parts of it are digital MMDS though.
If its analogue, i.e you don't have a digibox in your house just a cable coming in you will need the TX.
Let me know how you get on as I am going to buy the aerial and TX box next week.
good Luck.

There is no chorus mmds in Swords.
There is either chorus true cable or ntl mmds.

Check the direction of the mmds arials in the neighbourhood.
Check if you use the right output. It looks like there are two.
Try 258 mhz for the scan.

It says on the ebay description that Output frequency: 116 - 128MHz / 222 - 408MHz ,thats bullshit. Its just cut and paste off elsewhere.
It should be 662-848Mhz,if the Lo is 1838.
Try scanning at 674mhz up to 700mhz in 1 mhz steps.

NTL got the mmds licence for the Dublin region and around some years ago. There is simply no chorus mmds transmitter.

Fano is right the frequency is shifted with the LO of 1838MHz. Just means that you need to do a full power scan on the Eurovox and it should be fine. Make sure you do a full power scan or manual scan of all freq from 682MHz upward, 674MHz is not used anymore

The first valid centre frequency is 698 mhz with lo 1838.

Also I have spoke with Satandcable, and they have told me that the freq quoted are wrong as the supplier has sent aerials with a different LO than those ordered. However all will be fine, just the freq are shifted

The 2 metal rod lengths are the Yagi antenna.
It captures the MMDS signal .
Generally its a 22 element Yagi ~21 inches long.
From my experience they are very effective devices and work every bit as well as a grid type aerial.

Thanks for all your help , ive still not getting anywhere , all aerials in my area are pointing north , ive tried a scan at those frequencies and the link levels stay steady at 97% but still no transponders , if im right in my understanding because of the lo set as it is what is normally converted to between 220 to 408 is shifted upward and the aerial is converting it to the higher 690 mhz etc , can the eurovox work with that high freq ? ive tried a scan at both polarities .where i live there is nothing blocking my north view infact i can see all of north county Dublin but i just dont know where the transmitter is? any ideas

I see that satandcable have now updated the specs on the site confirming the higher output range , at the end they say its eurovox tx compatible , is it just the case the my normal eurovox can work with these output freq ?

Yes Eurovox scans between 100M and 870MHz. But it will only work for NTL MMDS. So assuming what has been said is correct and swords in NTL mmds you need to know the correct frequencies for NTL mmds. Have you done a manual scan on every freq from 690MHz upward at intervals of 1MHz?

Also do a factory reset on the eurovox and choose the 6887 symbol rate setting. This is used for NTL

Thanks , i used 6887 and scanned in steps of 1 from 600 to 900 in both polarities , the link level and quality goes to 97% from 660 to about 850 and then fluctuates down to about 80% afterwards

Why intervalls of 1 MHz? The bandwidth is 8 mhz.
2500 minus 1838 give 662 and thats a centre frequency of 666 mhz for the first frequency. The first 4 frequencies are not in use and the fifth has a centre frequency of 698 mhz. The tuner is working with centre frequencies and not starting values.
The first valid freqency should be 698 mhz for Swords via such a aerial.
