when using 16x dvd blank disc in the 20x lite-on burner you should be able to burn the dvd at 20x speed.

Well these discs i use, which are either GQ or TDK, are rated 16x. are there any discs rated at 20x for sale?

Why bother with 20X burning? I've generally burned at less (8 or 12X for 16X media) than rated speed. If you really want to go 20X, get some Verbatim 16X disks. You're less likely to make coasters.

yes 16x blank media is the max
and your asking for trouble burning that fast anyway
TDK codes out as cmc mag(memorex) not good media
buy Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim ONLY!!

Please slow down the burn to 1/2 rated speed of media. At high speed, all you make is coasters. It's as if you are driving, at 80 mph you mostlikely are ok, at 160 mph you eat it much faster and easier, so slow down, enjoy a cup of coffee, get a good burn, life is good.

TDK and GQ:
I'd only go 4x,maybe 8x after a bunch of test burns.
16x or 20x? That will definitely get your coaster rate up.
If you desire 20x to save you less than a minute, then get Verbatim or Taiyo yuden.

I have never encountered a reason to attempt at burning anything that fast.
I only use TY's or Verbs and usually burn at 6x. No rush...good copies.

Just wondering ,whats the point of 18 and 20x burners if you can use that speed? I burn verbs 16x at 12x on my benq 1655, they seem ok. But i just got a bad batch of 100, they all quit at 30% no mater what speed. I bought 3 x100 packs (dvd+r)and the one pack is no good at all, the other 2 are fine, and they all came off the same shelf. all id as 004 mcc made by mitsubishi

I have nothing but 16x Verbs and I'm a bit apprehensive about burning at 8x! lol
I'm more comfortable burning at 6x.
But why 20x? Why are you in such a rush? Why so serious? lol

I just wondered why they make 20x burners if they can;t be used at that speed? why not just keep working on 8x burners to make them better

What's the point of having a car that can do 140mph and never drive that fast?
Just because it's capable doesn't mean that it's the best course of action.
Like i said, i burn at 6x and make good copies, no problems.
Like MrPink said..."What's the rush?"

It's an e-penis thing, just like having a car with a several hundred horse-power engine. Now that they have 20X burners, would you even consider an 18X?

52x cd-r burners burn cd-r discs at 52x with no errors for me. thus, i was hoping there was a 20x burner that could burn 20x media somewhere out there. i agree, there is no point in calling it a 20x burner if it's not meant to do that 100% of the time with 100% efficiency.
I know dvd-r technology is different than cd-r technology, so maybe we'll give it sometime and 20x will be the new "8x" in the future.

The statement, I quote "What's the point of having a car that can do 140mph and never drive that fast? " That car will preform at 140,with no problems. It's the law that says you can't go that fast not the maker of the car.
Anyway this is getting away from the facts. Just like the makers of hard drives use 1000mb as a gig and the computer sees them at 1024 per gig/ Why the y ever came up with 1024 is crazy, 1000 si so much more realistic

Marketing and B/S.
It's like these people brag about getting from 0-60mph in 6 sec. and me in 7.5 sec., so you'll get to the next red light 1.5 seconds before i will, yipee
Like others are saying, Whats the big hurry?
Have a snack, surf the net, etc.
I always burn dvd's @ 4x(done a couple hundered easy, maybe made 3 coasters)
Music @ 16x max (never had any coasters)
Peace

The most realistic reason is manufacturers like HP.They very rarely issue newer firmware updates for their drives. They'll bring out the newer/faster writers. Then when the faster speed media arrives, their ancient writers lack the firmware to be able to handle them. Then when all the 16x blank media disappears, replaced by 18x/20x,it renders the drive obsolete. You'll have to upgrade to a faster drive, try finding the older speed media at places like ebay, or use the ancient 16x drive as a reader only....
16x Verbs are very good and were designed for the faster burning. Burn slow with them and you're asking for issues. Now they are made by Prodisc, cmags, and taiyo yuden. The Verbatim Ty's are rare. Some say get the Cmag verbs, others say get the prodisc verbs.Bad batches are known to get out with any brand name, including Verbatim and Taiyo yuden.
Combine the quality media with a quality drive, and 16x should be no trouble.
Burning 16x on my pc of crap HP 640C? In my dreams. It can't even burn 4x at a 25% coaster rate.
Is there a quality 18x or 20x Dvd-rw drive out there?
Is there a quality 20x writer that can hang with a Plextor PX-716A or a Benq 1640?
BTW: What's the fastest CD burners out there now? Last I recalled, 50x or 52x was max,but that's been ages ago.
Did they peak out after that?
PRON?
Right up my alley!!!!!!
