I just bought thr RX680 for it's CD & DVD printing. It works great without the CD tray loading problems I experienced with an R220. No longer do I have to guide the tray in as it feeds. Nor has the print tray stopped working like the R220 one did. Just load it & print It's that easy!! Oh & guess what else? It works with the Acoustica CD label maker. The R220 wouldn't print with that software. Only minor thing is the Claria inks. They look great but I can't find a generic version of it anywhere....
So which Epson printer do you like best?

The printer makers have wised up. I have a Canon pixma that uses BCI 6 carts(basically ink wells) They're now putting the print heads on the carts like HPs. My generics are $1.59US but I don't have capacity to print discs. New Canon carts generic are hard to find also.

What is cis? One of those ink tank kits that hooks up to the printer?

Yep.
For the people doing the major print job. Ebay's got them, also the major sites like Rima, meritline, and supermediastore may have them.
They run anywhere from $70-$100 or so for the R200 t0 R340 series. Not sure about the newer epson printers above R-360 and higher.
$10 a set of ink carts for my R-200 and R-300, So I'm happy with that. A year and a half ago, they were a hair over $1 per cart!!! It wouldn't pan out for me to use one.
Congrats on the new printer bratcher.

Thanks. I'm enjoying it!! Seems there is no Vista driver for my old Lexmark x63 inkjet printer. Tried installing it with the XP file & windows wouldn't accept it so I bought the new printer.

HP printer's ink cost a fortune, compared to other generic ink brands. I'll stick with canon and XP as long as possible. If I were to build a pc today(and that is my next quest) it would be an XP machine. Vista never!

Then I'll keep my pc for a long time. She's running as well as the day I bought her, nearly 3 yrs ago.
They'll probably replace vista in a couple years anyway, so M$ can make more money with another OS.

Isn't xp supposed to get one more service pack that gives it a drastic speed increase. Plus I think Microsoft is going to be speedy with their next os release anyways. Vista has been nothing but an embarrassment for them. bratcher, how many ink carts does the RX680 take. I need a new printer as my trusty 4 yr old r200 wont show me the status monitor in vista.

So how long do you think you could buy an XP disc? Perhaps 5 years or a bit longer? I'd stock up on some if I were you.

I like my new Epson. They seem to have improved from the R200 series quite a bit in the CD tray area as well as other parts of the printer. Pricey? Nope!!

Yes, once I found out that the Epson RX680 worked with the latest version I bought Acoustica then installed all of the picture packs except for the lightscribe ones. Almost 3000 images to choose from!! Also I found the RX680 prints with Nero's label program which I use for the Audible audiobook titles. No longer am I tied to Epsons Print CD program to print a disc & I'm glad about that.
Your right. The Acuostica label program is great software. I love it.

It takes 6 of them. Each a different color.

I'm still chugging away with my trusty R340. Was having a problem with the loading tray for a while but a search online said all it needed was a shot of WD40 on the tray switch and it's been good to go! Must have printed 3000 DVDs by now. I was thinking about that CIS for the printer now that my initial supply (72 carts for $72 at supermediastore 1 1/2 years ago) has ran out and the price of carts is climbing. Not sure if the printer will last long enough to make it worth while.

private abacus has refurbished HP Black 45 carts for about $8. I have an older hp that is just loaded with black for speedy internet printing. I bought 2 but my black hasn't run out yet so I haven't tried them.

Hello bratcher. I also have an Epson printer that does a great job of printing CD's and DVD's. I have an Epson Stylus Photo R310.
The problem that you mentioned with the R220 isn't actually the printer, it's the tray! I previously had the same problem. I had my printer for quite some time now as I have purchased litres of ink and have mastered the art of refilling my cartridges now. It took a few attempts and some leakages along the way. I could guess that I have refilled each of the 6 cartridges now about 50 times. I have saved hundreds of dollars. In Australia one Epson cartridge costs about $20. Each cartridge holds about 8mls. I buy 250mls of ink in a bottle for $30 (you also need a chip resetter, which they gave me for free). Do the math and you can see the savings are huge! 250 divided by 8 = 31.25. I get 30 refills for $30. I am paying $1 per cartridge and saving about $600 per bottle! :-D
Anyway, to cut a long story short. When I took my printer in for a service (waste collection pad) I mentioned that I need to guide the tray in just like you said you did with the R220. They told me that Epson have redesigned a new tray that doesn't need to be guided in anymore. It was about $10 from what I remember. It looks almost the same except for two little semi circles poking out the front of the side that loads into the printer. It works flawlessly. I never have to guide it in at all anymore. :-D

Glad to hear you found some cheap ink for your 300 series printer. I'll keet looking for a way & perhaps I might find a chip resetter too. For now though I'm not printing all that much so it's not that much of a problem plus the RX 680 doesn't use that much ink on it's text plus graphics setting. I haven't seen any need (even with CD & DVD printing) for the photo or max photo settings.
As to the tray it has one semi circle one the end that feeds in and the left side has two notches. When I push the CD print button a feeding mechanism comes out of the printer. All I have to do is feed the tray in till the arrows match then print from the computer. When I'm finished printing CD's or DVD's I just push the CD print button again and the loading mechanism goes back into theb printer.

Doesn't it occur to you that when you make a statement like that, that it BEGS the question........
OK, so where does one get this new revised tray?
Sounds like it would work with most any of the R series since they seem to be all the same tray.

Doesn't it occur to you that you can always ask things in a nice, friendly manner? :-P
If I did indeed post where I got it from it would only help people that lived in Sydney, Australia as that is where I live.
Any qualified Epson Service Center should be able to provide you with the revised tray. Just look on the Epson website for your country and you should be able to get a list of the service agents in your area.

By the by, I just hooked up a shiny new Epson R220 to see if it, and its pure Epson factory inks, could remedy the problem I have been having printing to Taiyo Yuden Disks with 3rd-party inks.
It made no difference. It still looks like shit. That NEVER happened with any Ritek/Ridata disks I ever used.
The inescapable conclusion is that the problem lies with the Taiyo Yuden DVDs.
I'm going back to my good old Riteks right away and will return all of these highly-touted T-Ys immediately.

Kissmiss, you did see that I answered your question above, didn't you?
In regards to your TY problem... Am I guessing right that you live in the USA?
In Australia I have found that Verbatim are an excellent choice. They are rated in the same league as Taiyo Yuden. They are a very good quality and durable disc. The printable canvas is always good for a bright colourful print that I would say looks better than the Ritek discs that I have done. Also they are rated at 16x but my LG drive gives me the option to burn at 20x with these discs. :-D

Just so everyone will know. CompAndSave.com sell cartridges for an Epson Stylus Photo R260 but they don't work so don't buy from this place and get ripped off like I did. My 1st mistake was buying an R260 in the 1st place. I had an R200 and it used generic cartridges OK and it was great. I just used it so much it broke a gear. These cartridges supposed to be compatable with an R380 and R580, also. Don't believe them..... George
