Sony's!
Staples will have the good Sony's on Sale this coming week. 100 pack spindles for $22.98. They are the good stuff! Not TYs. Oh well. But very good media made in Taiwan though. I have had only 1 confirmed bad disc out of Hundreds. I rate them same quality as made in Taiwan Verbatims.
The Sonys do have great sharpie writing surface!

bunnyrip- yup Good thing I stocked Up @ bestbuy's last sony sale cuz we don't have a staples here ! But I agree with you on the rest of it ~ I'm down to the last disc in a Tub of sony/taiyo yuden 16x dvd-r's I opened awhile back , They Burn good & have a good sharpie writing surface like you said !!!

Bunnyrip - Just looking at the Staples Ad as we speak
Sony:
100/$22.98
50/$12.98
I was also hoping that either BB or OM had the Verb on sale - both stores along with Staples are of walking distance from me.
Seen BB ad - nothing.
Haven't seen OM yet.

I've got 2 empty HP ink carts to unload at staple's!!! I'll grab up quite of few of those sony + tubs. I'm on my last tub myself.
The surface of the sony are very nice to write on.Better,is when you goof up and need to clean it off,alcohol takes almost all of it off the sony discs.
Sharpie doesn't come off from my Office Depot discs,even using alcohol..

I'm using a TDK "CD Mark" marker on my Verbs and I've been able to remove it successfully using Soft Scrub and a Q-tip. *Ü*

91% isopropyl alcohol(a.k.a. rubbing alcohol) and a soft cloth works like magic! Like it was never there! And it will not harm the discs.

Isopropyl alcohol won't take off the sharpie on the Office Depot Ricohjpn-R03 discs. Somehow,the top acrylic layer absorbs the sharpie more than it does on some of the other brands like sony.
If anyone has any OD media and Sony Media,you can try it yourself.This is using actual real sharpie,and not a regular cd marker or cheap chinese imitation sharpies you'd find at flea mkts.
I'm fresh out of OD media.Quite a few coasters in the last spindle I used of the OD ricohs.

saugmon- Yeah Buddy Gotta Agree wih you on that point ! Out of the two Brands 0F disc that I've used the 91% Isopropyl Alcohol on to remove sharpie Writing ! The Taiyo Yuden Thermal Printables work best You can get nearly 100% ink removal !!!! Where as with the sony's you get a Faint but readable ghost image of your Sharpie text ! I 'd give the Sony's 3 out of 5 on that issue !

Alright! My area recently just got a Staples. and 100 for $23 is a good price. Haven't bought dvds from retail in awhile it's good to see the price are going down.

The good new is that if there isn't a Staples near you and you want to stock up, they have free shipping on order over $50. Save your gas and spend the money on good media!

Just got back from Staples - Their -R are Made in Malaysia & their +R are MIT. I pickup a couple of the +R. Later in the week I will stop by OM & pickup some Verbs. Uh, I have some BB rewardzone coupons about to expire - I think I will do a PM at BB.

Staple's wouldn't give me vouchers for 2 old ink carts. They said they'll add the carts as points on my rewards card. Thing is,I've never recieved anything with their rewards card in the last 4+ years. No free coupons or discount coupons:zero,nada,squat,zilch,nil,goose egg,nothing!!!!!!
I'll save them for the next trip to Office Depot.

Same here. I've never gotten anything from thier rewards card. Never. Like my wallet doesn't have enough store-specific member cards already, i've got that one hanging out that doesn't do squat.

I'm running low on premium Sony's (T-Y's) and Verbatims (I 4get the MID codes but they were MCCs or something like that) so I stopped in a local Staples today since I saw they had Sony's on sale in their weekly ad.
Was hoping for T-Y's but I saw no packages with the glorious "made in Japan" info on 'em.
Like one of the guys mentioned above, the Sony -Rs that they had were made in Malaysia so I avoided them, but the +Rs were made in Taiwan so I decided to take a chance on a spindle. Actually what swayed me was that they told me if I had any problems I could return them NO QUESTIONS ASKED, even if I used some.
So, I picked up a spindle of 50 (in hindsight I wish I had picked up a 100 spindle since it was a better buy). Am checking the discs now and they are MID code "SONY 021 000".
Supposedly this is grade A according to the old digitalFAQ quality guide but I came up here to see what youse guys think. Sounds like folks have good luck with these, yes?
I am creating a test disc with NeroCDspeed now at 8x speed and will see how that looks on the quality test. If it looks good I will go back and buy a 100 pack and see what that is. I would not be surprised in the least if the 100 pack was not even the same thing as the 50 pack though. Sheesh buying media can be such a PITA!
I'll post again in a few minutes with my burner's NeroCDspeed quality result...

Just testing one disc, came back with quality rating of "90", which I believe is OK.
Also:
6.98 Avg / 75 Max / 125182 total PI Errors
0.04 Avg / 4 Max / 5639 total PI Failures
I don't claim to know exactly what all this stuff means but I have a rough idea (you want as low #s as possible and the PI Failures are worse than PI Errors?). It is not as good as what I get with T-Y or Verbatim (MCC) discs, yet way better than a spindle of SONY -R crapola that I tried last year.
With TYs I got a "95" and...
1.55 Avg / 16 Max / 27727 total PI Errors
0.00 Avg / 2 Max / 153 total PI Failures
With Verbatims/MCC004 I got a "95" and...
1.19 Avg / 9 Max / 21418 total PI Errors
0.00 Avg / 2 Max / 674 total PI Failures
With Sony -R (I think these were Malaysians that I tried last year - MID="SONY16D1") I got a "57" and...
18.13 Avg / 211 Max / 325429 total PI Errors
0.05 Avg / 9 Max / 7328 total PI Failures
So these new Sony D12s are not discs that I want to stock up on but they'll do in a pinch, and I am really running low right now. I think I will go back and get a spindle of 100 and see if they are the same thing.
I usually buy the Verbatims around here for $12.99 per 50 on sale at Best Buy or Ink Stop like every other week but they have not been on sale for like 2 months now :-(
I noticed that Circuit Shitty has TDK media on sale this week for $12.99 also but they are not as ez for me to get to like Staples is, plus I have no idea what those are. Anyone try the Circuit Shitty TDKs???

TDKs? Avoid them at all costs. Use your money wisely and buy Verbs (MIT) or Sony (MIT) TDK used to have good DVD Media. But now the are landfill material quality.

I haven't seen malysian sony. Now back in the older -4x speed,I was given some sony that were made in Austria. Those austrian discs were horrible,but the same Sony-04D1 MID code that the taiwanese sony -4x were.

Thanks for the comments - I will not waste my time going to Circuit Shitty for those TDKS!! That saves me a trip all the way out there.
Hey, when folks here say "MIT" in referring to SONY's and VERBATIMS that are good, does that mean "MITSUBISHI" as the manufacturer, and MID codes like MCC00RG20, MCC01RG20, etc?
Also, a correction to my notes above where I posted the MID code for the SONY's I just bought. First I said they were "SONY 021 00". Then later I referred to them as "D-12s". Both of those are WRONG!! (sheesh).
They are "SONY D21 00" or "SONY-D21-00" etc. My first comment was a simple typo ("0" character instead of "D"). My second comment was a brainfart reversing 2 characters when I type too fast (anyone else do that? I do that all the time & it drives me crazy). Sorry if I confused anyone....
