Hi folks
hope someone can help me please...
I have 2 ipods and I am usually good with connections. The problem is when I connect my ipod to my surround sound amp through any of the inputs the volume is very low.(I don't expect surrond sound but decen 2 channel stereo) I asked in a few ipod selling shops and was told I may need a pre amp?
My amp is a Cambridge audio and has various inputs/outputs.
All help greatly appreciated.

Does your amp have a turn table connection? If so that should fix the problem. If not, I would boost your music at the file level first. There is software that will allow you to normalize and/or boost or reduce the volume at the file level. It is totally stupid to have to buy a booster amp for your ipod to play it on a sterio. I bet they will add distortion to the music and often do not boost the sound enough. I feel most ipod equipment is junk! Most do not advertise the fidelity/performance specs.

You can either buy a booster amp which may reduce the quality of the music, buy a new amp or do not use the ipod. Burn mp3 CDs and DVDs and play them.

If you have money to throw at the problem, a preamp will do the job perfectly. All they do is take weak signals and boost them up to a watt or two. They do that with minimal distortion. Your amp will have no trouble amplifying an input that strong. Plus they usually allow you to modify the sound.

Thanx Mez. I do have the Bose docking station so I can move that around no problem for good quality sound. I don't think I will be buying a new amp for sometime.
Again appreciate the reply.
Cheers

Yes, that should you it. You really hate to put out that kind of money but it can't be helped if you want quality.
