Hey guys, ive been able to convert alot of my blu-ray titles to m2ts using tsmuxer and streaming them via Twonky....this has been working great, i dont like to reencode and have a huge file server, so keep the file size unchanged from source...

These rips were all with H264 video blu ray titles, the other day i tried to backup a VC-1 title, and no matter what i try in tsmuxer theres no way to make the ps3 recognise it.

I know i can re-encode the title to h264, but since space isnt really a problem for me, and i dont mind running off an external HDD to play, or stream, is there any way to make these vc-1 blu ray titles to play on my ps3 after ripping???

thanks to all who help:)

I'm in the same boat as you and don't think there is a way as of now. We have to wait for Sony to do a future firmware update to allow VC1 playback.

Also, here is an interesting page that shows all BlueRay movies and their codec so that you can avoid buying VC1 version.

Thanks, any way for those that don't know, i've found a way to play untouched VC-1 blu ray titles on the ps3.....i was searching 2 days straight to figure out how....so ive made it easy for others....thanks goes out to ODIN, as one of his reponses to a thread had very similar method, which worked:)

1) rip the title using something like Anydvd, as long as you have a .m2ts file with audio it should be fine (ive only tested with vc1 video, and .ac3 audio...so don't know if it works for dts etc...)

2)once you have the .mt2s file for the main video, run TsMuxer, open m2ts, set option to Create Blu ray disk, and split file to 4gb chunks.

3)Once complete, you should have a BMDV/Certificate folder, place these two folders within a folder named "AVCHD", and drop the avchd-me.exe (which youll need to d/l from http://www.mediafire.com/?ywt2wysnzb1) file into the avchd folder and run....this will trick the ps3 into thinking your usb drive is a BD disk (doesnt work via streaming)....

4)drag the whole AVCHD folder onto a fat32 formatted external drive, connect drive to ps3, goto video - usb (hit x), avchd (hit x again), and it should play the movie using the blu ray media player embedded into ps3...

this works fine for me.

Interesting. I wish Sony didn't have the 4GB limit, it would make a lot of people happier.

To be honest, the split doesnt mean you'll have to play the files individually, it's all seemless when playing back (may have a slight delay between files - kind of like a dual layer dvd i guess).....

I archive the movies on my file server as per below (only for VC-1):

Movie Name Folder - AVCHD Folder

This way when i want to play, all i need to do is trasfer the AVCHD folder onto my external and away i go.

This works for any audio format, subtitles can also be incorporated. Basically this is just like a blu-ray disc without the all of the extras and menus.

What I have done is partitioned my 320GB external HDD to have a 50GB FAT32 partition to fit an uncompressed BD. This way I can rent my movie from the video store, return it on time, and watch when I please. Also I can recode and archive on DVD9 if I really enjoyed the movie.

If you do want to recode, you can either keep the original m2ts file intact on your PC, or if you are pressed for space on your PC and need to delete the original you can append each from the split "AVCHD" file on your external HDD, this will piece the 4GB chucks back together, to do this you can use tsMuxeR.

If a movie is encoded in VC1, there is most likely no other "version" (in h264) as you put it.

I think i've followed these instructions strictly. However I have to play the files individually. I have to go to video, then usb, then i have to hit triangle do display all, then i have to go to bdmv, then stream, then press play on the file. I've always had to go to display all with usb sticks as well in order to get them to play divx files.

1. what am i doing wrong with this "triangle, display all"

2. what is the protocol for putting more than 1 bluray on the hard drive at a time? Do I make seperate AVCHD folders? do i only have one AVCHD folder with a bunch of movie folders? Do I need a avchd_me for every folder?

Thanks for any advice.

The AVCHD-ME method will not work with DivX, only Blu-Ray compliant streams, VC1, h264, MPEG. Also, with this method you can only have one movie at a time... and only once do you need the AVCHD-ME program.

AVCHD_ME_UNDO ?
How to toggle between BD <-> AVCHD structures?

Excellent! Works perfectly! :)

After applying AVCHD_ME.exe's magic and copying the AVCHD directory to USB FAT32 disk, the result plays perfectly well on PS3.

The workflow tsMuxeR -> AVCHD_ME.exe -> AVCHD -> USB-disk -> PS3 works perfectly.
The workflow tsMuxeR -> AVCHD_ME.exe -> AVCHD -> BD-E disk -> PS3 does not work for me: PS3 does not play that BD.
Whereas, PS3 plays the BD, when AVCHD_ME.exe was not applied.

Looks like it would be necessary to keep the original tsMuxer's output blu-ray structure before applying AVCHD_ME.exe!

Or is there a way back? Sort of an AVCHD_ME_UNDO.exe? A way to toggle between BD <-> AVCHD structures?
