Looks like you have LPCM on.
Make sure you have installed the latest software update then try this :
>Go to Settings
>Go to BD/DVD Settings
>Go to BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI)
>Choose Bitstream
Let us know if that works. Nice receiver BTW.

all of them that came with the console including, spidy 3, avp requiem, sunshine, out of the blue, hitman, planet earth, pirates collection and many more as i said the ones with uncompressed pcm soundtracks on work fine through linear pcm of the ps3, but when i turn on bitstream it only outputs 5.1 dd and dts i have gone through the sound set up a million times and updated twice and still no luck

My mistake. I forgot a very important limitation of the PS3 - IT CANNOT BITSTREAM ADVANCED AUDIO. The HDMI 1.3 transmitter chip in the PS3 is an older version that cannot do bitstream transmission.
You will have to let the PS3 do all the audio decoding and transmit everything as LPCM thru the HDMI. You'll still get Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio but it's the PS3 that's doing the decoding and not the reciever.
Sorry, my bad.

Set the PS3 on LPCM and let it do all the decoding. The result is the same. You still get Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA.

It's not a problem. That just means that the Onkyo is not doing the decoding but you're still getting the advanced audio soundtracks. The Dolby Tru HD and DTS HD MA only appear on the Onkyo's display when it's the one doing the decoding.

Followed this thread with interest and have a question on the topic for future refernce.
If I had a PS3, and wanted HD audio, I realise I need a receiver that has a HDMI input but i believe that not all with HDMI inputs can actually do HD audio.
So if the PS3 does the decoding over LPCM, does the receiver actually need to be able to decode HD audio??
Im a little confused on that point and still in the land of 5.1 Dolby digital and DTS.

You don't have to have a receiver that decodes the advanced audio formats. The PS3 can do all the decoding duties as long as you have an HDMI connection to your receiver.
So if you have a PS3 you'll be fine with an older (non-decoding) HDMI receiver like the Onkyo 605.
