so i followed the guide on this site to make an avchd from mkvs...i used mkv2vob to make the mkv's m2ts files. then ran them in tsmuxer to create the blu-ray disc output. i put the dvdr in my ps3 and the dvd pops up in the video section of the ps3 and it says avchd and doesn't play anything...i hit the triangle button to bring up the guide and all the symbols flash quickly but nothing plays still. Anybody have any ideas?
You dont need to use mkv2vob at all for this unless you have "non-standard" resolutions such as a 720p file as 1080x528(cropped borders)...just add the mkv to tsmuxer and make sure the level is 4.1 for the video, nothing higher, and then select "create bluray disk" for the output...after its done you will end up with 2 folders, BDMV and certificate...then you burn those in Nero by selecting Nero burning rom and then on the left scroll down and click on "DVD-rom(udf)"...then click on the "udf" tab at the top and then under the options you want to change it to "manual settings" and then change the file system version to "2.50" and then go down and click on "new"...after that you will want to add your BDMV and certificate folders to the space under the "name" column by dragging them over there...then just click on "burn" at the top and then click on "burn" once more and that's it...now, this is only if you use nero, which im not sure if you do or not...
ps...you could also just use mkv2vob and then burn the vob file to your disk as a "data" disk and the ps3 plays this just fine...you dont have to create the bluray disk like you are wanting to do if your just using the ps3 to play them.
thanks for the quick response! i'm going to try your method and see what happens my question is, if i do the data disk will i lose quality? none of my mkv's or m2ts's are standard resolutions but i don't know if they're all cropped borders...I've gotten all these files to play off my hard drive, just want to save space with the dvd's. Thanks for any help!
ok..interesting things happening when i fooled around with this whole deal. So i looked at the original file and here's the specs. Video resolution is 976:416 and the frame rate is 23.976 The video codec is h.264 and the audio codec is AAC. I for the life of me tried to find a way to convert the aac to ac3 for ps3 playback. What i eventually did was run the mkv in mkv2vob and set the output file as an m2ts. The resulting output file has an audio codec of .a52 which i researched to be the same thing as AC3. I then took this m2ts file through tsmuxer to mux to blu-ray disk output. Then burned these in imgburn following the guide on afterdawn.com When i played the disc it popped up as an avchd but wouldn't show video or audio and the menu was flashing very quickly. Next i tried using the original mkv with an aac codec and ran it through tsmuxer as blu-ray disk. Burned the BDMV and CERT folders in ImgBurn like the last time, but this time, when in my ps3 it played, but no video and no audio. the track was playing but i couldn't see anything. Any ideas?
ok, for what you want, all you need to do is use mkv2vob...you wont loose any video quality...only thing it will do is convert all audio to ac3...so if you have a dts track, it will be converted to ac3. Dont worry bout creating a bluray disk. After mkv2vob is done creating the file just burn it as a "data" disk, very easy and dont take long either and the ps3 reads them perfectly...its what i do
