The resolution of youtube videos is even lower than 640x480, so it's impossible to tell (even the high quality ones)

Hahahahaha - that's the funniest thing yet! So they call you boozer in real life???? That's pretty funny too!

Sam, what were you saying - you thought Abuzar pronounced his name with the accent on the last syllable? Actually, come to think of it, in my mind that's how I say it also. So boozer, before we all forget your real name completely in favor of your nickname, are you saying it's pronounced ah-BOOZ-ur ? Or is it ah-booz-ARR after all (how I say it mentally.)

$30 bucks for a 256mb graphics card in the 3000 family - only 40 stream processing units but what is the world coming to?

I finally got to play my medal of honor demo with the installed 3850 card. Lots of install problems - I still don't have catalyst in. 3dmark6 won't run, and on re-install it doesn't like my reg code saved from the last install? Had to re-install .NET framework a couple times.

COD4 looks MUCH NICER!! Holy cr*p. That's like what boozer said once, I was so busy staying alive that I didn't really notice the graphics difference. Shader 3.0 now provides a richer looking environment - light glistens off of object - smoke looks more real, and when a grenade goes off the shock wave looks like part of the screen is glass that has gotten bubbled out - I never saw that before!!

On the bad side, I don't think I'm getting the frames I used to get, and I believe I'll have to turn down all the effects to ZERO. The overall fill rate for this card I don't believe is any better than the x850xtpe it replaced - would you agree Estuansis since you have the same x850?

So my conclusion is - the advantages of shader 3.0 are definite - unquestionably now, it makes sense to think in terms of a $500 graphics card again (the original price of my 9800 when I bought it, and the original price of my x850 when I bought it) which is what the 4870x2 is going for. To be able to game like you guys are doing (at least at 1920x1200) with everything maxed out - YES that's the ticket.

The Medal of Honor demo was nice too. The rain on the streets - looked better than any water I have ever seen. The game itself is not that great - not up to cod4 or cod2 standards - not up to medal of honor pacific assault standards - but I'll buy the whole game on ebay pretty soon anyway. Probably time to replay cod4 and see what I have been missing shader 3 wise. This makes me think that I don't really want to buy any more games until I do the new build - why play a game on an inferior card with everything turned down, and kind of ruin the game that way, when it really should be played on a maxed out system the first time you go through it!

So you're saying it's pronounced AH-booz-er. The stress is on the first syllable. I'm sorry that's not acceptable. LOL

Actually, maybe that IS the way my brain was saying it all along! Sam you got me all messed up! lol

Thanks for the recommendation. I read on Newegg that some had problems with the hdmi picture or something, know anything about that? My only concern is that I have a big tv and I want it to look good. Thanks again.

Yes, Asus makes reliable graphics cards. My 4850 was bought from them within a few weeks of it's release and it's still going strong(I don't have it anymore, but the customer has reported no problems).

Of course the initial batch WERE made by ATI. But I haven't ever heard that they we not reliable.

So I wasn't the only one who thought it was pronounced like that... :P
Every aspect about the HD3850 is better than the X850XT, you're CPU limited by the game, single cores aren't good for running a modern game like COD4.

Navskin: I had an Asus Radeon card, no issues at all.

People come up with some weird ass ways to pronounce it.

The X850XT was an excellent card for its time, but the HD3850 is several orders of magnitude faster. I agree with Sam that your single core is holding you back. CoD4 especially requires a dual core to run smoothly.

You're using 04/05 tech in 2008, going into 2009. The Pentium 4 is so slow by today's standards it's not even funny. They barely play the newest games if at all. A 3GHz Core 2 Duo will be like 5 times faster at least. You'd even see a good improvement in CoD4 from a Pentium D. Since you're using an older board, that might be your hot ticket. But it would still be infinitely better to get a new board and a Core 2 or even a Quad.

Without wishing to sound rude, there's a certain air of 'we told you so' about all this. I still stand by the rest of your architecture being a major holdback even for the HD3850, which even in fully fledged 512MB PCI express form, is still only a fifth as powerful as an HD4870X2.

Yeah, for an HD3850 I would recommend at least a 2.4GHz+ Athlon 64 X2 or a Core 2 Duo. A 3.2GHz Pentium 4 was a major bottleneck for even an X1900 or a 7900.

Should stand to reason, I had an X2 4200+ with my X1900, a 3Ghz Core 2 Duo with my HD3870, and now a Quad core with the 4870X2. Even at 3.83Ghz, it's enough, but not overkill, far from it.
