First, sorry if this has been tackled before...my brain is a little fried from the frustration. I bought a Toshiba 40" 1080p LCD (40RV525U) today, and have had a hell of a time setting up the PS3. I know that this is a TV issue, because when I plug into my small 19" 1080i tv, it works like a champ. I'm convinced that it might be something in the settings on the tv itself, as there is an interesting twist at the end.
When I got the TV home, I set it up, hooked up the PS3, and got no display or audio. I set the "Picture size" setting to 'natural', and it worked. At this time, I allowed the PS3 to automatically set the optimal settings for the TV with HDMI. The results were as expected, 1080p display. I accepted the settings, and went about cleaning up my apartment while a ripped CD played...for about 2 minutes. At this time, the screen went snowy with no audio, and then dark. The PS3 is only about 2 weeks old, and as I said, works with my old, smaller tv using the HDMI input.
After this, I turned off the PS3 and plugged the HDMI into a different port on the back of the tv. Tried loading MLB 09, and instead of getting the game screen, I got a black screen again. After changing the "picture size" once more, it worked, and as worked since.
I tried loading a BluRay disc, and got nothing whatsoever. Games work now, but bluray doesn't. I then plugged into the TV via the included PS3 component cables, and the bluray disc loaded like normal. It can't be an HDMI cable issue because the game worked, although I know that the game displays in 720p, and everything works fine on my smaller TV which is 1080i. I've tried manually changing the PS3's setting to 720p, but the TV will not display anything for 30 seconds, which is when the PS3 reverts back to 1080p because the change wasn't accepted.
Any ideas? Thank you for reading through that, I know it was long...and now I need a shot of whiskey or something. I know that a lot of you have bigger and better tv's, but this is my first 'big' tv purchase, and it's very frustrating. I posted this in the TV forum because the PS3 is verified to be working fine.
