I use dvd shrink3.2 to decode my dvds, then i use VOBmerge2.5 to combine the vob files. and finally videora to convert that vob file to mpeg4. but when i have tried this with about 6 dvds, and only 2 have taken. seems like everything is ok. says the video is approx 4gb or so under the vob file, but when i convert it to ipod, it only converts like the first 30-40 minutes of the movie, and i always decrypt the "main title" in dvdshrink and check everything. is there something im doing wrong? something i can do in options? thanks for any help

This is only a guess but it is a educated guess. Your vidio files have errors even though they might play OK on a regular player. Rip to AV files then use fixVTS to clean them up. If you have questions the Shrink form is the right place for video issues like that. Don't say that the problem is an ipod issue. Say your video skips. That happens when you have serious video flaws. Once your files are perfect, they should process fine. This is a common complaint. I think the errors are not handled well by the conversion software. I doubt that you can find many serious video junkies on AD that do not use FixVTS on every video. They will even age slower, will repair eaiser etc. Errors are like a sore except they never heal they only get worse.

Well im new to ipod in general and the programs to use them but i found handbreak and have been using that with just dvd shrink

i take my backup of a dvd (already burned)

(if you dont have a backup already then use dvd fab hd to rip the dvd then go shrink)
http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm

but with shrink you just select re author and you be able to chose certain titles from the backup or dvd fab hd files!

then convert with handbrake!did 8 vids in the last couple hours seeing how it take forever! all were fine except one where it paused at 100% of the conversion

Co45, Shrink has no repair capibility. That is why you use FixVTS.
The Shrink forum suggests always using that utility. That was the most likely problem Ipodprob faced. Hand brake and most other mp4 utilities, will fail if it tries to process a broken link.

Another option is to just run AnyDVD, especially as Shrink is now very old and will not work with a whole raft of newer films, and then use simple Nero Recode and rip from disc to MP4 in one process.
Output is clear with no lip sync issues using Nero 7 Recode verion 2.5.5.0.

As I said above I'm using just shrink on backed up versions of DVDs recent releases too like benjamin button and underworld

Those backups were made using only dvdfabhd to rip. shrink to shrink the files so they will fit onto a single layer disc (and from this point is where id have shrink put the files into a folder instead of a iso so handbrake can covert into m4v...
Then burn wit DVD decrypter if it was turned into an iso image

I have yet to find a movie that hasn't worked because of errors the guys at dvdfabhd fix all that during tye ripping process it's also free the last movie that dvdfab couldnt do for me was saw 3 and thye came out with a update within 48 hours

i havnt had to use vob blanker or fix vts for a long time!

And I could technically convert the files directly to the iPod from dvd fab but I use shrink to reduce the size of the file
also dvd fab has a option to transfer straight to ipod, psp, zune, nds, xbox 360, ps3, cell phone, pvp and pda (but that is for the full version) id rather not pay anything and still get it done!

Shrink isn't used to fix errors or even decrypt its just used to reduce the file size!!!

and there is no need to use any error programs if you used a good ripping tool
