Ipod classic 80gb fix help.

OK I my daughter has a Ipod classic 80gb (Out of warranty) and we get a big red X in a circle so that means a bad hard drive. I was wondering if I can crack this thing open and replace it my self? I have seen older models have it done but not sure on this one. I went to the Apple store and they said no I can't but they will replace the hard drive for $160.00. So that means that they have magical powers that can replace the HD without opening it. Anyway any help on this would be great.

Also can I replace the 80gb with a 160gb with no hassle?
