I reckon thats a dodgy bit of protection on the vcd. Basically, there is an audio track on the cd also that your pc reads first(i think)!!
There is a way out of this, it requires you to install Nero Burning Rom!
After you've it installed, go to "My Computer" and right click your drive that you have the cd in. Click the volumns tab. If I am right, there should be 2 items here, one will be an iso and the other will be audio.
Double click the iso and you'll see a tick beside it. Now try and play it in your software dvd player!
I think that could be the problem!!

Actually, answer me one question!!
Go to the cd and right click the files seperately. What are the file sizes?

It's very strange, there should be four folders on vcd.
Maybe this was recorded by a stand-alone dvd recorder!! They might record differently

are you using windows 98? there is another thread on this forum where somebody had the exact same problem in windows 98, but the same VCD works fine in Windows XP/2000/etc..
you can read about his problems in this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/8354
Don't really know if his problem ever got fixed or not.. maybe you can ask him?

This is twice I have seen this problem come up, and twice have not heard back from the people who had the problem.. am I to assume that this problem is resolved by downloading the latest Windows Media Player, or perhaps DVD player software?
Anyhow, hope it worked out for you heber.

Apparently, those little standalone dvd recorders automatically record in vcd when there is cd-r media present and not dvd-r/dvd-rw.
Some of them supposedly have their very own formats to ensure that you will keep using their products (and are any of us surprised, really???).
This could be the problem with the vcd you picked up.

Would also have helped to know the origin of this VCD. I think that would have answered your questions Dela.. as for my question, I'm not sure if I am giving the right advice or not with this situation because nobody has given feedback one way or the other, which means that it worked, or they gave up.. either way, would be good to know for future reference.
