Well, I already knew that about boozer that's why I tried to be nice and say "special." Hahahaha.

Good job on that case - seriously there is something so clean about aluminum - I don't know what it is. I was noticing the screws also on the bottom holding the case together and remembering "no rivets." Very nice photos - excellent looking case without a doubt!

Little something I'm working on courtesy of Bit-Tech, the minimum requirement for a particular game at a particular resolution, basing 30fps minimum / 60fps average, depending on which figure is provided.
So far, 30" 2560x1600. (because it includes the least amount of data):
(I have marked some Crysis tests (20fps) as this is the card needed to obtain a minimum of 20fps, an acceptable level in the game, 30fps minimums still included separately)

Thanks for that Sam

I think it's bang on because, I play crysis at 1280x800 at medium and I have a 9600M GT which is actually weaker than the normal 9600 GT

Chart updated.
The figures are arbitrary, but derive from the total fps gained in several tests of older game benchmarks.

Sam, amazing amount of hard work! Are you writing tech articles - I seem to recall you saying something else about that - maybe on the builder thread. You certainly are qualified! That whole amazing post gets copied and pasted into a special reference text file. Looks like my 4850 1 gig idea is good - some of those tough titles will run with two of those cards in cf, if I eventually expand out like that.

Boozer, shaff finally got to you with that gay bashing hahahaha. STFU - what does that mean exactly?? Hahahahaha. Where are YOUR cousins? Just kidding. So did you ever get the boat club going?? Shaffaaf is not content until he pisses everybody off from creaky and ddp and loco over to you and everybody in between LOL. I think the Buckingham Palace is going to his head - it's the aluminum inhalation - doesn't that cause Alzheimer's?? Hahahaha.

Aluminum
One of the most publicized and controversial theories concerns aluminum, which became a suspect in Alzheimer's disease when researchers found traces of this metal in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Many studies since then have either not been able to confirm this finding or have had questionable results.

Hmmmmmmm Shaff - are you there? Anybody home? Boozer brought some girls over. Why are you sitting there with glazed eyes staring at your fan controller? Hahahahahaha

Thanks for the appreciation Rich, it's all taken from Bit-tech's figures, but I'd love to set up a hardware review site. For a start, it would mean free stuff :)

The Aluminium on both Shaff's and my case is brushed/coated, so the bare metal is never in contact with the skin unless you're working inside.

Sam, which aluminum case is that? I have the Lexa on my newegg wish list of all possible new build options, and it says "plastic and steel case." Are you referring to your server?

Well, the aluminum scare got me out of the habit of cooking meat on aluminum foil, but other than that I'm not too concerned. But maybe I should be more concerned, I certainly have my share of "dumb" moments... (... as all my cussing at myself in the first 4 hours of getting up to speed on COD4 mp each week proves! LOL)

The Blacklie, my server case, is steel.

The benchmark is nowhere near as demanding as the real game, that should give you an idea of just how badly coded the game is. Maxing the textures even at your res uses about 1.4GB of video RAM, and since no GPU currently has that, it's for 'future video cards only'. To the game's credit, the 256MB console cards use 10% quality settings and minimum textures.

29FPS with CF disabled.

with CF disabled the CPU usage is 48%, where as with CF enabled its 66%.

3.91GHz on my Q9550, and 66% usage. 2.6GHz Penryn C2Q.

2.6Ghz? The Q9550 is 2.83 stock... :S
Also, Penryn is a very broad term, it specifically refers to a Laptop Dual core processor, but non-specifically refers to the 45nm architecture. I think I'll stick to calling them Yorkfields.

Sam, by the way, I'm going over your performance chart again. The Hells Highway, the bottom line on each set of resolutions, just arrived in the mail from my ebay purchase.

My monitor, at 19" 1440x900, equivalent to 1280x1024, is below the 20-22" monitors (I guess at 1680x1050) that you reference.

So my question is, for Hells Highway you say HD3870 or above for the 22" monitors. My card, the 3850, of course is weaker than that, but I'm only pushing 75% as many pixels (so from that standpoint my 512mb gfx memory ought to be equivalent to the 640mb on the 8800 you mention.) Would you suggest I try to install the game next week, and see what happens, or save myself some frustration and hold off until the upgrade?

(I notice that on the relative performance, you rank the 3850 512mb at about 84% of the performance of the 3870 - of course I don't know how agp factors in, not to mention P4 hahaha)

Rich

The HD3850 will probably be fine, as 1680x1050 is 36% more pixels than 1440x900 and the HD3850, at least in 256MB PCIe form is only 28% slower. However, pixel count does not always match up to performance. In many cases, as long as you don't use AA (which would cripple a 256MB HD3850, is yours the 256 or the 512?) you don't gain much extra performance from reducing the pixel count, and vice versa. However, this chart only considers the graphics cards. I would expect your P4 to be a major cause of performance problems in the game.

Mine is the 512mb 3850. Yes, undoubtedly I will be P4 cpu bottlenecked - I could have guessed as much from COD4 - running 95% cpu usage and 50% gfx usage when it runs halfway smooth.

Well, I might try it a bit. I almost hate to "ruin" the game, similar to how I feel about crysis and FC2, when with some patience I could max it out and glory in the graphics, which PC Gamer raved about. I'll probably have to run it at the special setting they support called: "center of the earth ultra-low-everything for retarded systems" LOL.

No offense meant for "special" people, boozer.

hahahahah - Rich

Estuansis, you're just tryin to rub it in - wasn't it you who said "2005 technology, and now it's 2008 - well almost 2009." That hurt bro! Hahahahaha.

(Sam says I have to go quad - no core 2 duo - if I want any chance at GTA4.)
