I had a very bad trouble.
I bought a new PSP Piano Black 2006 and my system software is Version 5.03 recently.
The shop owner had already modified my PSP and its work fine, able to play ISO and CSO games.
But he warned me not to turn off the PSP, only able to put it in sleep mode. But i accidently off it completely and when i turn it on, I can't play games from my memory stick.
I went to another shop and I asked the owner, he said he can't modify the PSP as it is a new PSP. He asked me to download something and it is very complicated.
I really need help on this! Please someone help me with some ideas.

Is probably the Chickhen installed.
4. When you are running firmware 5.03 go to the photo menu, select the memory card and press X , you should now see a Chickhen folder, click X again, now as soon as the next screen appears hold down the left down button until you get to the bottom picture. If your PSP powers off you need to turn your PSP back on and repeat step 4. It usually takes me 4 - 6 times until it works. You know the hen is loaded successfully when your PSP restarts by its self.
To verify the hen is loaded go to the settings menu on ur PSP (The left most menu) then scroll down to system settings then click on system information your firmware version should read "5.03 Chickhen R2" If it does ready this you can now enjoy homebrew :)
But beware as soon as you turn your PSP off you will need to repeat step 4

Well you should actually start your own thread as none of this relates to this thread.
I can only suggest to go back to the shop owner you bought it from and ask him, or start over with the process

I got a version 5.02 and did as the guide said the "creating the magic memory stick" session, but in the "creating pandora batery" part to run the pandora battery creator in the games menu, it said file is corrupted...
am I doing something wrong? thanks in advance

The 3.50 is just the version of the CFW enabler.
The tutorial is for the 5.03 firmware

If you have OFW, you can't "create pandora battery', you need to purchase a pandora battery.
Also if your psp came with OFW 4.00 or higher this tutorial won't work.
Check the troubleshooter section at the bottom of the guide.

Hi,
I've got this thing working, fab guide.
I had a 5.00m33 which I've pushed down to an ofw 3.71 using the PB and MS, and back up to 5.00m33 again. Great
Now, when I try and update ofw to 5.50+ (just to use the PSN to download a purchase) it says i have a memory card error 80010005.
A google search says jeff all.
I've reformatted a 4gb pro duo, a 1 gb pro duo, reset defaults, turned the thing on and off, blown in the memory card holder, tried to upgrade by individual upgrade, redownloaded the upgrade from PSN, sang a south park song... the damn thing still won't upgrade properly.
Do I change a setting somewhere else? Should i buy another memory stick?

I use the PSN store with CFW and have no problems.
But anyway make sure your memory card is formatted back to psp, don't use the mms to update.
Then download the update, and try it again, or just go back to CFW
It could be an issue when installing firmwares, or a nand issue.
Not really sure how to fix that. If you saved your nand, when first ever installing CFW, try restoring it and then update.

Thanks for that speedy response SmokyRain
Vis a vis the PSN store, I wish I could remember where, just to post the link, I think I read somewhere that psps should be 5.03+ to download stuff from the PSN (or maybe just for FFVII). I might be wrong and that discussion may be somewhere else
So, formatting - I've tried psp>system settings>format MS, mspformat.exe, don't know other other formatting things
I've also tried downloading update via PC and direct to PSP.
I've looked here - and its damn scary
I've also heard that the 5.50 has been cracked, so I might hang around a wee bit longer to see if that works...
or when i get more time, I'll try the UPMS whatsit and see what happens there

Alright everyone, I need clear answers because I am completely stumped.
Today is my birthday and I am trying to hack my PSP as a gift to myself. Problem? I have followed both this guide:
http://www.blastprocessing.net/?page_id=20
and this guide:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/708959
very carefully following ALL the instructions to the letter and sort of understand what the heck it going on. However, when I get to the part where you insert the pandora battery (bought one off of ebay) to install custom wares and/or get a NAND dump for baackup and I get nothing. The power comes on automatically, but I get a black screen. I've remade the "magic" stick twice and I've held down every button on the PSP while inserting and I've waited for few moments to see if anything changed. Heck, I even pressed X to see if it would go ahead and install the custom software so I could use the official battery. Nothing works.
When I remove the pandora battery and insert the normal battery, it works just fine, even with the modified "magic" stick.
What am I doing wrong? It's very frustrating.

Still nothing. I am at my wits' end here you guys

Thank you
It's a Piano Black PSP 2001 (so it says under the battery cover) and I'm not sure which it came with (perhaps 3.something), but I had already upgraded it to 5.57 (or whatever the latest was. My Pandora battery didn't come until today and I got the PSP last week)

Ok well first I would just follow this guide, since you have posted in this thread.
Try this: ...take out the battery, hold down the L button, insert the battery (while still holding down the L)
If that doesn't work, make sure you have checked everything in the troubleshooting section on the first page of this guide.
Now it is possible you have a TA-088 v2 motherboard.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/709168 - check this link here and follow the guide for TA-088 v2

I am using an XP computer (should I try a Vista?)
I have the same type of memory card that comes coupled with batteries
I don;t know how to check the motherboard type (without taking the psp apart. Opening the UMB case does not help me see anything)
I tried holding the L after taking the Pandora out and replacing it (and every combination of this)
Should I try simply letting the pandora battery charge for a few hours before trying again? Because I'm totally to the point that I'd be willing to send it to somebody else and let them try it. Or at least let somebody else come over and see if they can fix it

No XP is the best too use too make the mms.
I am not sure what type of memory card your using.
At least I have not heard of a memory card that comes coupled with batteries.
do you have a link to that type of memory card. That could very well be the problem.
You don't need to take apart your PSP.

Ok that memory card should be just fine.
I would have to say the mms is not working correctly though, and would just start this tutorial from scratch again.
When you insert the pandora Battery, make sure its 100% charged.
Your wifi lights should start flashing if its working.
