I've gone as high as 380 for 30 seconds before and have had luck. That's not standard. I only go higher when a reflow doesn't work the first time. And it's always been on Xenons. Normally 350~360 does the trick.

i actually found his unit on ebay. the guy was selling the pre-heater, stand, and both nozzles that are needed, so i asked if he had the 968 for sale or was wanting to. he stated he had it and was considering selling it so we worked out a deal for it. but this is one of the cheaper, well known places to buy it from:
http://store.sra-solder.com/product.php?xProd=6267
would spend a little bit more on it, but at least it comes from a real store, not ebay where if you have problems you can easily get the sorted. also, there were some on amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Aoyue-968-Digital-...n/dp/B000HDG0AO
its sold via the same company as the first one, but shipping might be cheaper due to being sold by amazon.

is the only difference between the 968 and your 2702 the desoldering part? or does yours support custom profiles?

Here's the stud setup that i made, it makes mounting the board easier if you are only doing 360 boards.

Like i said i just got some really long bolts then cut off the heads with a dremel. I use the nuts to secure the board to the preheater. I think it works out better then always having to move the sliders then deal with the thumb screws.

all i did was follow the heat profile i posted earlier in this thread. had to turn the preheater 90 degrees as whats shown in my pics though so the nozzle would reach the gpu. im going to make a different mounting system sometime shortly to get ride of the X brackets. going to put in something that will just be parallel to each other as this will allow the heater to sit the normal way then.

Infam0us you didn't read the whole thread did you?
Originally posted by C4RN1: First you want to apply flux under the gpu, then before you mount the board make sure to take the pads on the ram off the bottom. Then you can mount the board, setup your nozzle and begin.
Set the preheater to "220C" and let it heat up for at least 5 minutes. You want to get the board to about 200F. You'll actually smart smelling the flux when it gets hot enough (it smells like nail polish). I use a digital infared temp gun to verify the board temps so i know 5 mins is about the right time.
Next you want to 0 your air and turn on the reflow machine. Then you can turn up the air to "5" and let the machine heat for a couple minutes at it's lowest setting "90C".
After a couple minutes at "90C" you can raise the temp to "195C". Stay at "195C" for a couple minutes.
Now you want to turn of the preheater and slowly raise the temps up to 300C. Raise the temps slowly by pressing the up arrow every second (it's about 3C a second).
Now you want to hold "300C" for about 30 seconds, when the 30 seconds are up slowly lower the temps to about "220C" then you can hold the down arrow till you're back at "90C".
Let the machine idle at 90C for a minute and then turn it off. You want to let the board cool for about 20 minutes. I usually wait 10 minutes then move the nozzle up so it cools down a little quicker.

oh yea, dont forget to flux the gpu otherwise you wont accomplish much at all.
also, c4rn1....how do you get your MOBO to fit and be reached by the nozzle? if i have it as you do in your pic, its about 1/2 inch away from covering the entire chip.

That whole mechanism slides up and down, if you crank it all the way down with your nozzle touching the board then lock it in from the back you can take the pressure off the board so it fits like this. I have that silver locker at the lowest point so i can let the holding arm rest on it before locking it down.

You can see how it's all the way down but not touching the board.

And here's a pic from the top, You can see the arm isn't straight out but angled a little bit to get the right length. It took me a little bit to figure out how to get it just right.

As for the x mounting system i have absolutely no problem with it. The studs keep everything in place and i can just spin the nuts off the studs and lift the board right off.

ill have to try with the angle of the arm then. bc going straight out wont work. but turning the preheater sideways on the stand doesnt bother me that much, would just rather it look as it should i guess. and with changing the sliders, it can sit as it should and have the arm go straight out. plus i would still retain the sliders and whatnot.

Yup yesterday I bought 2 xbox's off craigslist for $50. I had a 0102 from hell that took 4 reflows. I finally cranked it up to about 350C for one minute and just for luck I reflowed the cpu also. I ended up drinking and passing out early last night. When i got up this morning i reassembled everything and was shocked when it loaded.

This reflow station sounds cool but how long would you expect consoles to last? I read somewhere that removing the dvd drive can solve the rrod in cases where there is a 0102 error code, if a fan is placed on the GPU heatsink. Seen as the dvd wouldn't be needed for a jtagged console, removing it could significantly reduce the chances of a future rrod, especially with Xenon models. Simply removing the dvd drive is a lot easier and less riskier than doing the x-clamp fix in the case of a 0102 console. So what do you guys think about that?

with a good reflow, and not some heat gun/xclamp replacement the console shouldnt have a problem lasting for a long while. as for removing dvd drive and putting fan on gpuheat sync as a fix for 0102 thats just wrong. what they are attempting to do is get the solder hot enough to to melt without having the console shut down.
