I personally can't see the ps3 ever being hacked im not saying it's impossible but most hackers get frustrated/bored before they even get anywhere and plus it's been out 3 years now and still no one has cracked it

It will be a good day if it ever did happen

Out of interest, what is your main reason for wanting the PS3 hacked?

which means what? i think we all know. i dont see why everyone and there mama wants this thing hacked. lets be realistic, even if it does get hacked and you wanted to pirate games the only way it would be feasible is if you could load games off an HDD. i personally could care less, i dont mind buying my ps3 games. hence my pretty big library.

Why would you want to play "backups" anyway? The Blu-ray disks are pretty indestructable under normal circumstances anyway.

Obviously what you really mean is you want to pirate games, which makes you a theif. Why do you think it's ok to steal video games?

Does anyone else think its going to be pretty funny when all these morons finally get the hack the want, then realise it's going to take them a month to download the 30+gb games they're trying to pirate?

why? it is almost impossible to scratch a Blu-ray disk. They have a "anti-scratch" layer specifically for that purpose.

Any yeh, the internet connections here in the UK are pretty shitty.

Well first of all we know that a BLu-ray disk can hold upto a maximum of 50gb, but there are not that many game that do, the only one I have heard of is metal gear solid. Most games are between 4-10gb in size.

Also I have an 18mb connection, in the UK, I am a heavy user. Even if I was to download a 50gb file it'll only take me a week, and that isnt with having my PC on 24/7.

Now I want the PS3 to be hacked so that someone can finally release some software that will finally allow the PS3 to play all the common types of video and audio codecs currently being used. I have a tonne of anime which I have to stream from my PC if I want to play it on my main TV.
Also Sony are not using the PS3 to it's full potential, if it gets hacked a lot of people can finally get the PS3 to do what it's really capable of.

Thats cool, my connection is crappy, i get about 250kb/s max most of the time, and traffic is heavily shapedI have no problem with people wanting a hack for reasons like that, but stealing games (or playing "backups") is not a good enough reason...i'd rather the console stay locked.

Again, why?
The games are virtually scratch proof.

Also, you will quite likely get banned from online play for playing your pirate copies.

Thats a bit of an understatement, most games, are between 7GB and 18GB, there are a few games that are above 30GB

I have a 5mb connection, it would roughly take me a day and a half to download 50GB, im able to download about 2GB per hour, your speed should get it in a lot less.

This is what i dont understand, Sony gave us the ability to play all video and audio formats, by giving us the choice to install Linux and i pretty sure you have an older console that is able to install Linux.

Simple solution, put the game in the console yourself, or dont let 8 year olds play the PS3.

To be fair, I leant my PS3 to my 6 year old cousin when I went on holiday for 3 weeks...He didnt mess up/scratch/break any of my disks.

As I've said, its pretty difficult to scratch a BR disk. Teach him not to screw about with them and you'll be fine without backing them up.

If I may interject with something that is a bit of a side topic within this thread ~ It is no-one's responsibility or place to question "who does what and why". Afterdawn is a place where people come to read, share & learn how to do all things technical.

The question of morality to others here is no-ones business (just as religion & politics) and should only be addressed/forwarded to a Staff Member or Moderator to handle IF there is clearly a blatant violation of the rules. An example of this would be a direct download link to pirated software or whatever in any form ~ I.E.

you click this link

And the file starts to download IMMEDIATELY. Whereas if you link to a site that hosts the download

like this

and you have to then make the specific action (by your choice) to download the file, then that is within the rules. So I kindly ask to please refrain from offering your own personal views of morality in comments unless it is to help aD within the rules. And as always, the discussion of "how to do this or that" is always allowed on aD. Thank You.

I wonder if someone in china has already figured something out. I'm not convinced it's impossible and good luck to the person that figures it out.

My hope is that the rest of us with 40 gigs will get a chance to have our ps3 play ps2 games.

40 gigs.. gotta upgrade the HDD man. I ha like 6 games from PSN and it filled my 40 gig. Drop something bigger in, its not very expensive.

And just to stay on topic, even if it does get hacked Sony will find a way to ban anyone playing backup games, I rather keep paying $60 a pop and play online.

If there was a HDD backup method I say yes, Keep working on a hack to back up games.

BluRay media is very expensive right now. It's not really worth the price.
