Hello,
I made the stupid mistake of playing a PAL version of Nartuo Clash of the Ninja on my US/Canadian Wii. It did an update and now my Wii is Semi-Bricked (unable to access Wii settings). My Wii was not up to date on all its upgrades from Nintendo as my Wii Wifi is always turned off.
I always stick to NTSC games but didnt notice this one was PAL version. Does anybody know the update it did to my Wii, and which games I can use to un-brick it or solutions to fixing it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

hi mate
hope you had luck with your prob cos my 9 year old did the same thing with Wii fit (PAL). I tried to load the Mario Kart game to let it update the firmware but even though it said firmware updated, the console remained semi-bricked! I am not sure what else i can do, thinking of upgrading to latest wiikey firmware but that wont un-bricked the console?

If you semi-brick with the latest firmware then you will need to wait till a higher firmware update comes out before possibly reverting the firmware back to normal. So if you semi-bricked with Mario Kart PAL version the NTSC(U) version will check and then skip the update since you are already at the highest firmware from the PAL version. This would be the same for WiiFit as well.

I'm not sure what firmware version i am on but i have an active internet connection. Yesterday I played MLB 2K8(USA)at the advice of this board and was not prompted for an update. I was really hoping this game would undo the semibrick but it appears I will have to wait longer.
I got the message from Nintendo on February 26th about the update to 3.2 in the message board, however when I try to update through the internet it goes to the Opera Error Screen. What I need is a NTSC-U Game with the 3.2 update on the disc. Apparently MLB2K8 is not it. If it is, then i'm afraid my Wii is no longer able to initiate the updates from the discs (ie i am hosed) because as I mentioned previously, I tried it and no update was necessary.
Well my Wii is still semibricked and Mario Kart Wii does not fix it. I have never updated to 3.2 so i'm wondering why Mario Kart did not even prompt me for an update. This is getting frustrating. I'm hoping Wii Fit will allow me to get my settings back. If not, it could be a LONG time, if ever, before it is fixed.

Hi mate
thanks for your response, my console (NTSC) got semi-bricked with wii Fit (PAL), not by Mario Kart. I used the Mario Kart (NTSC) to un-brick the console but although the firmware was updated (after two attempts) the console remained semi-bricked :(.
I was wondering if i upgrade the wii firmware to 1.9s (never updated wii firmware b4) would i be able to play the wii fit?
cheers

Hello,
I've been reading AD for a while, this is my first post. I purchased a ntsc(u) wii with a modchip (don't know the details ATM). I semi-bricked my US wii with Mario Kart PAL. What (if anything) will fix this?
Since I don't have the details of my modchip yet, I dont want to go the SMG route due to the copy protection scheme that exists in that title. (I've read http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/597460)
Is there US region game other than SMG that I can use to unbrick my wii?
Thanks in advance...

I am confused. I have an US NTSC console with 3.2U firmware and 1.9S wiikey. When my son accidentally insert a PAL game, it was still updated by PAL firmware. I thought 3.2U is the latest version and it should not be updated?? Do I understand it wrong?? Now the Wii can play some games but not all. I can not access the setting as it is semi-bricked so I can not check which PAL version firmware it is now. Is there any way that I can check the current firmware without going to setting?

welcome to the club mate, i know its not the kind of answer u were expecting but i just know what u r going through as my 9 year old did exactly the same :(!
anyway i am also trying to find the solution but so far only dead end! I even tried to upgrade to latest firmware with mario kart (NTSC) but although the game updated the firmware (NTSC), the console remained semi-bricked. if i find anything i'll let u know, so far the word has it that we must wait for the next Nintendo firmware upgrade :(!

Thanks man. Not sure if Kart NTSC comes with new firmware or just 3.1U. I think that 3.2U will not help neither since it is just a 3.2U menu change not really a firmware though. Anyway, I will also keep searching the solution and keep you updated.

To everyone who is semi-bricked w/ 3.2U, your out of luck. the only way to unbrick is to get a newer firmware. AFAIK, nintendo releases new firmware w/ their first party games, and I don't know what other first party games they even have planned! Maybe they'll do an online update.

Thanks goodness I have found this page. I have just put a freshly downloaded game in my Wii. I think I have just semi-bricked it X_X
The worst thing is I don't know which chip I have in my machine and I don't know if it is NTSC or PAL... It is a Japanese version... since they are all in Japanese... Now I can't get in my setup menu and I also got a error code from Mario Kart.. I have found another thread sorta solve the Mario Kart problem...but what on earth is PPF-o-Matic or PPF patch?? Sorry... but I am all new to this and I just afraid I might just lost my Wii to the updates...
I did update it today ... not sure if it is with the game or online.... but last time I updated it through paper mario and it worked! The paper mario i played was in English tho... I don't know if that is NTSC or PAL... can someone help me out this sticky mess?
Gazillion thanks!

Hi, I just wanted to make sure I don't brick my Wii.
If I update my drivers via the internet to the newest drivers and burned a game I purchased at Wal-mart (same as where I bought my console) I should be fine right?
Should I still use Wii brick blocker or would it be fine if I accidentally forgot?

haha, I have semi bricked my NTSC(J) wiikey with wii-fit last night!!
Jesus! that's why all the updates/installations failed.
so I will have to wait for next firmware update...(new version Game Disc)
but what about wiikey 1.9s jap? // should I inquire from other topics forum? it's not about firmware bricking anymore, I am not sure if this error I observe is related to wii semi-bricked.
Sega~ -> A or Reset button -> It went through first phase (first test with 100% check) then right after it reaches 100% test check, it stopps and gives error 'please check the connections and try again'.
what does that mean? error in hardware or from wii semi brick?
