When i plug it into the USB port a thing pops up saying the device isn;t recognised. It also says no driver has been installed for it even though it has been

Thanks for your help scouser. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver several times but the adapter is still not recognised by the computer. I'll try it on the laptop and hope for the best!

hey guys, was wondering if you could help. I bought the USB converter, installed the driver, when i open the software for the ex5000 it only shows 4 COM ports, when i look in the device manager, i am connected to COM 6-7-8- & 9, so it will not recognise the connection.
Any ideas? I have tried this on both Vista and XP computers :(

have a read courtesy of celtic71 To see which port your USB adapter is connected to, connect your USB adapter and follow the following instructions:
1. Go to the Start Menu
2. Right click on "My Computer"
3. Select "Properties"
4. Click on the "Hardware" tab
5. Click on "Device Manager"
6. Click the + sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)"
7. One of the listed ports should indicate which port your USB adapter is connected to (e.g. COM1, COM2, COM3, etc.)
8. Go back to your map software program that you use to transfer data and make sure it is looking at the correct port.
9. You should be able to transfer data once the correct port is selected
If you need drivers go here
http://www.gilsson.com/usb_drivers_download.htm
Follow my advice to step 7. Locate your USB Adapter (port *)
Right click on that port and select properties. Then select port settings, then select advanced. At the bottom of that tab will be a drop down box with the port selected (port * in your case). Use the drop down to select another port (eg 1, 2 or 3). If the port you want to use is already allocated to something else, you can use the same procedure to reassign that port after you have finished.
Save the selections in the usual way. The USB converter will be permanently assigned to the port you selected.

Hi again anyone who can help me! I've installed the driver for the USB converter but it doesn't show up under ports in the device manager. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times and it still doesn't show up. The computer continues to say that it doesn't recognise the device. Am i somehow not installing the driver right or is there a problem with the adapter or what could be wrong? I've tried the adapter and driver on 2 computers and it doesn't work on either. I'm slowly going mad...

Instructions on how to install the Driver,
1.Turn on computer and make sure USB port is available.
2.Plug in USB connector to USB port.
3.The "Add New Hardware WIzard" should appear (if not, then you can 4.open the wizard from the Control Panel)
5.Click "Next"
6.Select "Search for the best driver for your device"
7.Click "Next"
8.Windows will ask you to specify the location of the driver. Please select "Specify a location"
9.Use "Browse" to find the driver in the CD-ROM drive (or wherever the file is located on your hard drive)
10.Click "Next" and then your done.
Try that if it's still not working get to a PC with a 9 pin male serial socket so that you dont have to use the USB adaptor.

Thanks for the reply HiTeck. I ended up buying a new adapter and it worked fine so I got that problem solved. I downloaded the firmware onto the box and scanned as outlined on page 1. All seemed to go well but when it finished scanning a message appeared saying "please wait, code being updated". It seems to be frozen as it's been like that for around 40 mins. any suggestions?

Turn the box off at the mains, turn it back on and go to sly sports 1 and wait, it should update within 1 min.

Have you put the latest firmware on it? if so after you flashed it did you do a factory default and then a powerscan using your correct symbol rate. make sure your feed is in the RF in and not the ANT socket.
