It is as much Sophocles right to interject information as yours. No need to be beliggerent. It is often a good idea to give the source of information. Note sophocles links and the ones Doofy provided earlier. I'd done searches here at AD and others looking for resolutions to the problem. Trying to impart knowledge using source material from forums isn't a good idea without giving the source, even if you mean to be helpful.

It doesn't matter its always better to provide the URL when posting that kind of information in case you missed something that might not work out, then they can't blame you.

you know what it is, how hard is it to please some people how the hell can i quote the source of this material when it comes from brainwaves, thoughts and knowledge out of ones brain.
Yes i read about it , but long before i read about it, when i had this problem, i looked at my start up folder in the 1st instance, had a good look, then msconfig, then registry found a corrupted key, delted it, fixed my problem, then went looking for info about this to see how common it was, then found the info, etc etc etc.

It wasn't hard to find, I just entered your info into search strings and had it in less than a minute. I've done a lot of registry tweaking and editing since W95 but I rarely recommend it to others. I will however post a URL if it's appropriate. This way you accompolish your task without being at the bad end of something that didn't work. Just good advice.

LOL, Good advice Ascii, I'm gonna have a wild guess that Brobear has a Creative Soundblaster type card in his machine? this problem was very common a few years ago when these cards were common, although they are not the only thing that causes broken registry keys. Did I mention I never did beta testing for Nero 7?
I've just read up on what Microsoft have to say about this problem and the CNET page (which is simply a cut and paste of the microsoft one) and there is no simularities other than the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run' anyone else see the simularities? that registry key is critical to this fix. Ascii goes through his fault finding process perfectly, startup problems, check the startup folder, check what's being started in msconfig, and then go on to check the registry, If these failed, I'd search for other information online, and if that failed, I'd reinstall, I hate having a non clean/non stable OS.
Ascii, next time you cut and paste, perhaps run a spell checker first? LOL
Maybe next time you click the reply button, stop, think, and quote the source of where you learned to click that mouse button.
I got a few replies to make after reading this forum again this evening, but I thought that this needed to be addressed. Some of you regularly mention that you are here to learn, well try listening to *facts* rather than just you 'points of view' points of view can be wrong, facts cannot.
Why whenever anyone tries to help do you guys instantly jump and flame them? C'mon, we can ALL learn (including Myself) from others, some on here seem to have a very childish attitude towards gaining knowledge. Lighten up, learning can be fun!
Steve!
Edited to correct the typo I made at 2:18AM lol

Yes I have an Audigy card, however I've checked that material out before. It's common knowledge on the forums. Doofy supplied a link to the info earlier.

http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/57262.html
Quote: Look in the list of items in the RUN registry key. Delete :/L ENG if you have it there. This is to do with Audigy sound cards, and causes system32 folder to open on bootup.
They even gave the source in the registry that causes that particular problem. It appears it may be something more general. As I stated, this happened intermittently until recently with various programs. Nothing consistent. The Audigy card is there all the time and so are the registry entries for it. Thank for the info, but it's sort of old news now. LOL

I have an Audigy 2 Platinum myself and I'm satisfied with it. If Creative could be a little more carefully with their drive updates this wouldn't be an issue.

Quote: Did I mention I never did beta testing for Nero 7?
Didn't think Nero 7 was available, I don't have it, so I don't think that would be part of my registry problem. The last time I checked it wasn't an available version. I do know a little bit about the Nero 6 program because it's a very popular program with a lot of members here at AD. I'll keep Nero 7 in mind though. LOL
Quote: If these failed, I'd search for other information online, and if that failed, I'd reinstall, I hate having a non clean/non stable OS.
The system 32 folder opening doesn't affect the stability of XP; when closed, it stays closed. It is just a minor annoyance. I was just checking to see if any one had run across a simple fix I'd missed. Starting to look as though they haven't. I know a system reinstall would fix it. But, without finding the source of the problem, it could pop up again and the process would just have been a waste of time.

I think you will find that was sarcasm, and more over, if i cut n pasted as suggested from another source such as the suggested cnet, then how the hell did i manage to get spelling mistakes in the cut n paste.
brobear Quote: Trying to impart knowledge using source material from forums isn't a good idea without giving the source, even if you mean to be helpful.
Now if you are referring to the link i provided, after being so rudely accused of neglecting to supply a link to the cnet site that i supposedly cut 'n' pasted mispelt info from, then a gave a link to a forum, then you should have also noticed that that link went directly to the information i provided you with in the first place. My post on here.

XP SP2 screwed my Nero and Sony RecordNow DX,in Nero Recode 2 in the preview pane it just went bright green but I still had the Audio sound,Sony DX just stopped woking.Unistalled then reinstalled both programmes, everything seems OK now (I hope) I wll leave XP SP2 off my 2nd comp ,most of it is security related so if you have good Anti Virus + Firewall maybe its not that important.

It appears both statements were sarcastic. Using poor spelling to prove a point is unnecessary by you or Ashington. Internet and forum info, even if poorly typed is still internet and forum info. You yourself said you searched and found the info and previously read it.

Even if you found the material previously, you should have kept track of the source. You're claiming to be an expert. I noticed the prank you pulled of linking to your post. Everyone that read it probably noticed. We felt embarassed for you and didn't say anything.
ascii, you're trying to prove something and what you're proving is that you're combative and overly aggressive. Those traits don't make you a computer expert. I wish you would just stop coming after me and leave me alone. You can have this thread, I'm going to unsubscribe from it.
Have a nice day, stay here and help those who want your help, and enjoy the forum.

Thanks for the information Ispy. It just goes to further show that SP2 isn't compatible with all systems.

Wow, This thread has gone down hill since I stepped in the poopoo back on page 2 and unsubscribed. Now we're complaining about getting our spelling and grammer corrected and argueing over the use of the proper wording.
I'm sincerly sorry to all the members, seniors, and mods for the flame war that it appears I started.
Perhaps this thread should be closed. It appears that all of the usefull information that is available on this thread has been put out.

well in future if you are going to accuse someone of something get some proof, instead of trying to belittle someone at every oppurtunity then go ahead, Someone asked for a link fo rthe source of what i typed so i gave it, and having a crippling disease of my muscles and ligiments, may contibute to my, poor spelling, and being in constent pain, and the fact that it was like 2-3 am in the morning where i live, then yeah i am proud of my spelling, and my achievements thus far.
And you should possibly consider sticking with Vtech, until you realise that in order to learn you have to listen.
And your welcome.

Whoa man,
I was only commenting on the general state of this thread, I was not directing anything at you specificlly.
If I accused you of something I appoligize.
I have had many of those 2am-3am non spelling nights myself where the letters dance all over the keyboard in front of you, so this I do understand.

I'm sorry you are disabled. Regretfully, you're not the only one on the forum that suffers debilitating problems. Also, I know that being in pain doesn't have to make one mean and it doesn't affect their spelling. I can speak from personal experience and there are people here in much worse shape than I am that are nice all the time. In fact they struggle to help people in a kind way.
Being an IT expert, you should be aware of spellcheckers. If you have a spelling problem, a spellchecker will take care of it. Afterall, Ashington brought it up and then you commented on your spelling as well. Only takes a second to hit the check button. Anything of any length, I write in wordpad and copy and paste. Spellcheck only takes a second or two if spelling poses a problem. As for me, I had no problem deciphering your text.
Trying to use internet data and pretend to be an expert doesn't help many. A lot of the information is dated. Things that happened in the recent past aren't effective due to changes. That is the reason for asking for sources; so a person can do some in depth study of the problems instead of dealing with a short paraphrased forum statement like the CNet excerpt you gave. No one was jumping on you, but you weren't helping anyone. The list of things that cause the system 32 folder to open automatically is staggering. Also, your aggressive behavior started well before I asked Ashington a question. It was direct, your assistance wasn't asked for.
Being disabled myself, I can say that being mean and then using a disability to justify it is a poor ploy. Playing on peoples sympathys isn't nice.

BTW Michigan, you have nothing to apologize for. The things that happened weren't your fault. You're right, as far as I can see, this thread has no useful purpose left. The only thing that can go on is some say SP2 is great and others say it stinks. With the split ballot, that proves there is a problem. Unfortunately it's up to microsoft to fix it. SP3?

It was not used as an excuse so that i could justify being mean as you caled it, now if i had not offered you the advice or contributed advice, as i had not seen the previous posters replies to your question when i typed my response for you to stop system 32 folder from opening at every bootup, then that would be mean as i knew how to fix it, and another thing you ever stop to think that my particular disease, would affect all of the muscles and ligiments in my body including arms, hands, etc. are you that stupid.
And i aint got time for a spell checker, you either take how i type or you leave it, it aint so bad that it is not understandable, or would you say that if i spoke to you in a similar manner, you would ask me to use a pen and piece of paper, or to use an interpreter.
So take another cheapshot if you want, but at least i know, the true intention of everything i have posted thus far.
