Has anyone ever tried them or know if they are quality media?

FutureShop in Canada has an in-store only special on a spindle of 100 for $49.99 (regular price is $129.99). It is a 4 day only sale. I went to get some today, but had to take a raincheck since they are sold out.

The website for Daxon says it uses Cyanine/AZO Dye. Does anyone know if Daxon and this BenQ is good DVD media?

I didn't even know there was a sale, I just happened to drop by, and grabbed it. However, as of you I haven't been able to get a game I burned to BenQ media to play. I've tried 3 different games, tried with different burning programs, nothing has work so far (The PS2 plays fine w/ other media though, it's a V9 with a DMS3 chip)

So i'd suggest A) Don't buy 'em to burn PS2 games, or B) find a way to burn PS2 games on 'em, THEN buy 'em :) They're 4x DVD+R discs, though the little logo on the bottom has "RW" in it. If anyone knows how to burn properly to these discs, or any way to make 'em play in a PS2, let me know, as I'd rather not waste the rest of 'em :)

I bought the same BenQ DVD+R 4X 100 spindle yesterday. I tested with one on BenQ DW822A burner with Book Type set to DVD-ROM and the latest firmware B3IC. It burned in a max. speed of 8x although it says 4x. I tested on APEX AD600 and Citizen JDVD3830 without any disc errors.

Before burning it, I used Decrypter to read the media to find out that it can write in 2.4x/4/8. The media manufacturer's name is Daxon.

I am happy with this purchase. My intention with these DVD+Rs are for movies, music and pictures.

I have so far burnt 20 of the BenQ +R DVD's on my NEC 1100A. No coasters. I also ran an error check on a few of them with DVDINFOPRO with no errors noted.

From what I was reading online the manufacturer is Daxon and is good and was actually known before as Acer Media.

My DVD's played perfect on my Sony DVD 325 and my Phillips DVD 727 stand alone players. So I am also happy with the deal and the discs.

You will find that high quality media..and slow burn rate will improve your burning. A good combination is the Ritek G04 and burn at 2x speed. It's not to say Benq media is bad. If your backing up movies the Ritek has been noted for it's excellent qualities. But a slow burn is worth the wait

Benq media should be good as it is made by Daxon, which also makes the sony media. Aparently the AZ1 code and the sony media code are just different names for the same thing

My BenQ blanks are DVD- and claim 8x on the box.
My Sony burner does 8x but I burn only @ 4x
(WTF, it's only 12 minutes or whatever...)
Fantastic results, perfect.
I also got a box (5 in jewelcase) of 8x DVD+
Haven't tried them yet; what the hell is the difference, anyway!?
Sorry, NooB question I know (and I posted it elsewhere).
But the BenQ work for me, very inexpensive too :-)

I'm sorry, but how would YOU know it's bad quality manufacturing? It's not make in Taiwan! It's made in Malaysia/Singapore where almost all the best media is made, unless my packaging is lying, and articles are not telling the truth. http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Neodown,
I also use a TDK 880 burner, I have used a number of different brands of media for my back ups. What I was trying to say earlier is, the Ritek G04 is the media that I choose to back up my movies and my PS2 games. I burn at 2X speed. I have burned hundreds of backups as well as data backups. This media and your burner should also give you excellent results. I have had some issues with other brands although the Benq is a brand that I have not used. Have you tired a different brand of media? If you have were your back ups successful? You may want to visit TDK's website to verify that you have the lastest firmware installed for your burner. I know that TDK had a list of preferred brands of media for their burners. I know that the Ritek was on the list. You can normally pick up the Riteks on line for under a 100 dollars US for a spindle of 100.

I think that if you read the previous posts regarding media. The majority of members on this site will agree that if you are having problems with your media and your not using the the Ritek G04. Thats the first recommendation. Ritek does have more than just the G04. Some of them are better suited for data back ups. The majority of brands out there can handle video but when it comes time for a movie back up, the Ritek G04 has proven to be an excellent choice. Perhaps the Benq's and TDK are just not a good match. Since you are burning coasters, it seems to me that whatever you paid for the benq's was too much. Since I've used the Ritek G04, I can't remember the last coaster that I burned. If all else fails, go get a few DVD RW's and try them. If you burn a coaster just erase and try again. I use the Fuji brand of media whenever I am trying something new.
Good Luck

No one is saying not to use the Benq's. If you have success with them, GREAT! if after a year or 2 and you still have your back up on it, thats really Great! If you read the posts here you will see that some media will lose what was burned on to it in as little as a few months. For High Quality media at a good price. It's tough to beat the Ritek G04 and a SLOW burn. But again this is just my opinion.
Happy Burning

Edgex, yes I'm quite aware Ritek G04 is good media. In Canada, at least where I live, I have NEVER seen it. Unless you can travel to the U.S., ordering is out of the question, shipping, duties, etc. would be much too costly. The regular cost for Benq's is $90 Cad for a spindle of 50, so I hope people are not judging the quality on the SALE price. This is the best media that I have come across so far, equivalent, if not better to Verbatim DataLifePlus, which I paid an arm and a leg for.

neodown, I'm interested to know, other than the one sucessful burn, have you had any sucess with other media? Did you buy 4X or 8X? Even with a 8X burner you should be using 4X media. Did you update with latest firmware? You also may not be aware of FutureShop's return policy. If you are not happy, return it for a FULL refund. Take you burnt discs, along with the remainder, and say you're not satified. I would suggest using RW's until you have consistant good results. There are many, many, steps you have to take to tweak your computer, so to speak. Once the preparation steps are taken, and you become a little more informed, things should work out better for you.

Good luck.

At Newegg.com $90 would get you two spindles of 100, how expensive can it be to ship to Canada?

Mackdl was quoting the full retail price, in support of his assertion that they are not 'cheap'.
Semantics :-)

I don't follow; with an 8x burner and 8x media, you're in great shape to burn @ 4x (or even 2x)
are you not?
BTW most stuff is less expensive in Canada
But then there is 15% tax (in Ontario at least)
which is still payable on whatever we import, so might as well buy it here anyway...
I still say box of 5 BenQ 8x blanks, in jewel cases w/ paper inserts, for $3.99 CDN ($2.99 USD) is a great deal :-)
I like my media in plastic cases.

$90 US=$125 CAD + shipping. Companies send Fedex or UPS so add another $40 Cad just to cross the border. Add duties (Canadians are only allowed $20 CAD compared to Americans who are allowed $200 US)plus handling charges. Then there's 15% PST and GST taxes. Get my drift, hardly worth it.

Ogs, I buy bulk slim jewel cases, look for sales at FutureShop or Staples.

I'm also wondering if neodown is not getting a good burn because he's trying to play them on his HOME dvd player in which the media may not be compatible?

neodown, memorex can be not too bad or bad media. Unfortunately without opening the package and running them through dvdinfo or smartburn (liteon), etc. you don't know what you are getting. I've had some that were Ricoh (same as TDK's from Costco, Canada) and some CMC. The CMC were complete garbage (50% failure). Because of that I will never buy Memorex again. I have a liteon burner which is fairly accepting of most media. Happy to hear FutureShop took your benq's back. I find them to be a good store to deal with in terms of customer returns.
