Best to delete and start again. It appears the registration process doesn't work until you reboot the computer. I have updated the Instructions which are included in the Winhex.zip file on the web site. So the process is:
Extract all files to a temp folder.
Run setup.exe to install Winhex.
Run keygen.exe , enter details and create a user.txt file.
Run Winhex.exe , Click About at the top and select Register, Copy and paste the details from the user.txt file created by keygen.
Click OK, close Winhex and reboot your computer.
After rebooting it should work fine.
Goodluck :)

Extract the files first, then run the setup.exe to install Winhex. After this run the Winhex.exe

I have since deleted the Winhex.exe file that came with the zip. Go to the directory where you installed Winhex and run that one. Not the one contained in the zip file. Sorry for the confusion :(

from the layer1.iso of norrath, i had BG>DATA all the files were in DATA so i extracted the DATA folder into the disc2 folder.
Then I opened the original ISO file. your instruction was to extract all visible files. do you mean all the folders, files etc? but in which section? the red ISO or the green ISO? they seem different.
and after i do the things i need to paste to Disc 1 and Disc 2. do I copy all the other folders other than the BG stuff on both discs? eg, DATA,DATA2,MODULES,NETGUI,etc

Both norrath discs will contain the same files except for the two mentioned which should be removed from disk 2 put into disk 1 otherwise it wont fit onto the disk. You extract from the red icon not the green. If you look at the bg folder for the layer 2 it wont have the same files as the bg folder on layer 1, that is why you copy the files that are missing in layer2 from layer1.
The end result is two disks exactly the same apart from the two files which are not on disk2.

i think i've done it. the first disc seems to work fine on my ps2! thanks alot. But the loading times are very very long (takes about 8-10 minutes to load each part) is the normal? Also; in the future how will I know which files to move etc etc for other games that are dual layered.

I'm a bit of noob at backing up games for my PS2. You're guide is fantastic. Seriously. I copied and split MGSS no problem, first try. So I thought you might be able to answer this: Is it possible to boot a DVD-DL (double layer) backup of a DVD9?
I've got a V4 PS2 running with a FlipTop and booting off th Swap Magic dvd 2.0, and it's working like a champ for my DVD5 backups. I'm looking to pick up a DL burner soon, and I wanted to know if I can just rip a DVD9 game into an .iSO with DVDDecrypter, then dump it onto a DVD-DL and drop that into my PS2 and boot with Swap Magic.
I've been looking around a ton of forums for an answer, and I haven't found anything that explicitly says 'yea' or 'nay'. Like I said, I'm a noob, so I might have missed something.
I don't mind splitting DVD9's to DVD5's, but I'd like something that is a full-boot and less hassle.
Thanks again!

Sure that's dirty... but I'm not gonna say no...

Xquizit: The load times are quite long but shouldn't be 8-10 minutes. Perhaps you should try a different media. I use princo disks.
Shourtbus: You would have two options. Using DVD Decrypter to extract and burn the iso. That should work as it does for DVD5 to DVD5. If it doesn't boot you could then use CD/DVD Generator selecting the DUAL layer option and create the image with that.
I myself just use Nero or Gamejack to do a straight copy and have never had a problem. I don't see how it couldn't work for a DVD9 to DVD9 straight copy.

Thanks for the help! I'll probably pick up a DL burner this week. One more question though... I thought I saw somewhere that the Swap Magic DVD (2.0) boots up a dvd5 TOC, and that it didn't do DVD9 TOC. Honestly, I'm fuzzy if that should mean anything or not to the PS2 when I boot the DL burn. Nonetheless, the question arises, is that going to cause a problem?
More than likely, I'll buy the DL burner this week, and I'll probably find out for myself. But with the DL media being so pricey right now, I was hoping for a bit of a heads up.
Thanks again.

The answer to that question is: Does the original DVD9 work with swapmagic? If it does then you will have no problems.

Tried loading original MGS2:S with Swap Magic DVD... and it gave me a red border and failed. I tried loading up with Swap Magic, then DVDLoader, but I didn't have much success (though I gave up after my second red-screen failure). I got it to load with DVDLoader, but it only played layer0 on MGS2:S. When I tried to access Skateboarding, it red-screened and failed.
*sigh*
Any thoughts/suggestions?

I've heard a few people say they have that problem with MGSS and SwapMagic. Perhaps it might be a good idea to just keep using 2 DVD5s or Get a mod chip. I have a messiah 2 and never have game issues :)

MUGZ, go to Suprnova.org and click on games, then PS2 and in the list you should see a file called PS2 cheats and utilities. That torrent has every program you need.

zjuric: Do you have a mod or are you using Swapmagic? Did you use the correct files for each dvd and in the correct order? Most important did you make sure the volume name was the SLES or SLUS name?
rmr123: Did you extract all the files first and then ran setup.exe to install? Step me through what you did.

I got the same thing too. Winhex.exe was not in the zip file. If you wouldn't mind, grimtaz, would you please include winhex.exe in the .zip? Thanks
