It is possible to get a DVD9 to fit onto a DVD5 by removing movie files. This however my cause the game to crash. You know when to change disks when the game crashes or does something weird.

If you dont have a DUAL layer DVD writer and a mod chip. Then yes you'd have to do 4 DVDs. I don't know what the stability of the game would be, I haven't come across a game that uses 2 DL disks.

Noober, you and I are in the same boat. I'm trying to do the same thing, but I haven't gotten it to work. I tried leaving out the "MAINVIDS.AIFF" file to get it to fit, but that didn't work. It would load up the game, but when I tried to play a round, it would hang forever right where those video files would play (duh). I'm hoping someone figures this out, because I'm hitting a wall. And I don't want to waste anymore DVD-rs

Sure that's dirty... but I'm not gonna say no...

I would remove the last 2 or 3 - Video56,Video57,Video58. Perhaps replace the files with blank files - create a new file with the same name and extension only empty. Would this free up enough space?

Noober and/or shortbus:

Would you guys mind telling me what hex adress you started at to scan for the CD001 text? I got F00BE800 by using the >:\VIDEO09.AIF LBA and file size.
Or: 1799409*2048+342859776 before the hex conversion.

Thanks

d2aydream:

Yeah, I got the same hex (F00BE800).

grimtaz:

I don't think we should lop off the last three vid files (56-58). I opened those AIFF files and used the PSS Demux prog to view the video files. Those files Video56, Video57, Video58 are all gameplay videos for layer 0, and not just bonus footage (remember, the Guy Game is heavily video intensive). If you lop them off here, you can't really put them on the other disk (still have the space limitations).

The problem with splitting this game is it's abundance of video files. All the videoxx.aiff files on each layer are gameplay files, as the game uses videos extensively. For this game, I don't think it's so much dumping entire .AIFF files, but I think we need to shrink them by cracking them open, deleting unnecessary vids (non-gameplay), and replacing them with dummy .pss files.

I cracked open the MAINVIDS.AIFF file and I'm trying to see what videos are necessary and which aren't. Some of the videos are the 'unlockable' video files that have no bearing on the game. As-is, the MAINVIDS.AIFF file is like 914megs. I'm trying to see if I can trim that titan to fighting weight (probably about 200-300megs). Cut out the unnecessary vids and replace the .pss files with dummies. I'll probably try to finish it tonight. I'll let you guys know how it goes...

Seriously though, if anyone else has already done this, please let me know if it works. Oh, and if anyone knows an easier way, holy crap please tell me, because for a noob like me, this is uncharted territory.

-!SB!-

Sure that's dirty... but I'm not gonna say no...

I have backup champions of norrath on 2 dvd5s and everything seems to have been going OK.

But I have a problem...

I am in the Lava Field Level 1 and when I try to go down to level 2, I just have a black screen with no Loading scene... I try with the second DVD (even tough I was pretty sure that it's was not there the split) and I can't load my last save game, I just have a black screen also...

Can anyone help me please ?

Perhaps it is one of the DVD9 checks. You could try using Apache 2 to patch the system files and reburn the disk. You copied those two extra files from disk 2 to disk 1 didn't you?

Hey, having a little problem with CD/DVD Rom Generator.

In your guide where it says to press record, I dont get the error messages you talk about, instead I get an error message telling me "ASPI Manager loading failed".
I ignore it like you say to do, but I never get to the record screen so I cant export the image.

Any ideas?

yippie: Go to Start > All Programs > CD_DVD-ROM Generator 1.50 > CD_DVD-ROM Recording Unit. You will get a couple of errors, click ok to each and the recording window should pop up.

maybe it's the wnaspi32.dll that need an update ?

Try on the Nero website, in the update section, download this dll and put it in the cd/dvd rom gen and in the Nero directory as well (if you hate it installed)

yeah, I click ok (the only option), then nothing happens.

Using XP Pro.

UPDATE: Thanks for the help. I downloaded wnaspi32.dll and now I still get the error message, but when I click through the program works.

Thanks a lot guys.
