I created a backup of one of my movies and set it up to create an .ISO instead of burning.

Instead of creating an .ISO it created the image as an .MDS image. I am familiar with this image type as well (though Im not sure why it did not create an ISO) -- but when I boot up Alcohol 120% to burn it, Alcohol tells me that it is an invalid image type. MDS images are Alcohol 120's native image.

Any ideas as to why I did not get a standard .ISO image?

MDS files are created on FAT 32 drives because of the 4GB file size limit.

There does not seem to be a single standard for all MDS files.

OK, it turns out that MDS files may be more complicated than I thought. For the time being, DVD Shrink 3.2 will be able to generate one which is mountable by Daemon Tools and burnable with DVD Decrypter, it will also be able to read those which it previously wrote, or which are output by DVD Decrypter. MDS files from other applications are a big unknown, but I guess this is not so important.

HI JitWad. :)

Your file system is probably FAT32.
It has a file size limitation which requires DVD Shrink to split the ISO.

DVD Decrypter and Nero (and other softwares, I'd guess) can burn theses files though. ;)

Yup...that would be it. My slave drive is still on FAT32, never have gotten around to converting. I suppose I should.

Thanks for that easy solution.

I would definitely advise an update to NTFS if you are going to continue DVD back ups , it makes life a lot easier :c)

No 4GB limitations anymore & proper .ISO output(s)
