Try cleaning the disc and checking it for scratches. CRC errors are pretty common. It may be failing during the encoding of the movie's end credits so a trick is to re-author and use the start/end chapter select feature to remove the credits. This way the movie is done encoding before the bad spot is reached.

Do you get errors from DVD Decrypter, or when you run the "decrypted" files in DVD Shrink?
If the former, the disc might be physically damaged or badly authored, and impossible to rip/process (even though it plays normally).
If the latter, you might want to try another DVD backup software.

hi - i managed to use DVD Decrypter and leave out the last two chapters of the movie - which would be good but it makes 5 VOB files and DVD Shrink cant open the files - so i cant burn it to a disk now - i have a folder with 5 VOB files - which i need to connect somehow to make one file to burn to disk - but how do i do that now ? i tried to use Nero and connect them but keeps locking up and seems to be having a hard time doing it - so i have to keep aborting -
i though once i used DVD Decrypter - it would make a file which DVD Shrink would open and burn - but it dosnt - what am i doing wrong - ?
what can i do to burn those files to a disk and make a movie -
thanks

I'm affraid DVD Shrink does require for all the movie files to be present.
Maybe you could try the following:
- Copy (as a backup) and delete all the *.IFO and *.BUP files (if any) from the ripped folder.
- Download and install IfoEdit.
- Open IfoEdit, and select "Create IFOs".
- Browse to, and select the first ripped VOB file.
- Choose for the new files to be saved in the same folder as the VOBs.
- Click OK.
Then try and open the files with DVD Shrink.

Could you list the files present in the folder?

vts_01.d2v
video_ts
vts_01_0
vts_01_1
vts_01_2
vts_01_3
vts_01_4
vts_01_5
these are the files - not n the same order -
i havnt a clue as what to do next -
any help would you can offer would be great -- i been spending all weekend doing different things -
i even tried dvd x resuse with the disk that works but has a problem at the end of the movie - about 98%
and it finally finished after hours -
i made a new copy - and that copy from dvd x resuse was worse than the first one - so it was no good
with these files i made - i left out the last 2 chapters of the movie - which were just the writing of the movie at the ends - the words going up -
thats where the problem is on the original copy i have -
thanks

Files that shouldn't be in the folder (not sure how you got them there):
vts_01.lst
vts_01.idx
vts_01.d2v
vts_TS.bup (are you sure it's not "VIDEO_TS.BUP")
Files that should be in the folder:
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB
Assuming the files that do not have extensions are IFOs and VOBs, the only one that seem missing is the "VIDEO_TS.BUP" (unless you made a mistake when listing them).
If it is indeed missing, copy the "VIDEO_TS.IFO" one, and rename it "VIDEO_TS.BUP".
(*.BUP files are backups of *.IFO files, and identical to them).
Then delete the extraneous files I previously listed (back them up if you want), and try DVD Shrink again.
If it's still not working, remove all the files from the folder, except...
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB
...then use IfoEdit "Create IFOs" feature.
P.S: to make things easier...
- open Windows Explorer.
- click on "Tools" >> "Folder Options".
- on the "View" tab, look for "Hide extensions for known file types" and uncheck it.
- click "OK".

now i am confused - i renamed the file and now shrink says -- cant find the video_ts.ifo file
i dont think ever had that fle -
i renamed the video_ts file to bup - and ifo and nothing worked -
i renamed the file back to video_ts and shrink gave me that error -- overlapping i/o from before
i am not sure how to use the create ifo from the other program - i think i did it right but nothing happened -
is there anything else i can try in simplier terms -
i am new to these problems - but interesting in figureing it out - - let me know if theres anything else i can try or if i should start over - and what should i do

Try the second suggestion in my previous post.
"...remove all the files from the folder, except...
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB
...then use IfoEdit "Create IFOs" feature."

hi - i just done that and it dosnt work still
shrink tells me - overlapped 1/0 in progress
again - i notice in the folder - i have two ifo files - one is upper case and one is lower case
the upper case one is 6kb in size - and the lower case one is 86kb in size - then i have two bup files
upper case - and 5 VOB files all lower case
VIDEO_TS.IFO - IS 6KB IN SIZE
vido_01_0.ifo - this one is 86k in size -
then i have the VIDEO_TS.BUP
and VTS_01_0.BUP
then i have the vts._01_1.VOB - up to vts._01_5.VOB
all lowercase
there has to be a something wrong - that i am doing or not doing correctly --
those are the files in the folder - and shrink gives me the error --
overlapped I/O operation in progress
any more tricks i can try to get it to work and burn a new copy -
thanks

then overlapped I/O operation in progress
so its something with that VOB file - but what could it be - ?

First rename the files so they are all uppercase.
Make sure not to make a typo! (you can use the list I previously posted to check against)
If this does not solve the problem, try unchecking "Enable burning with Nero" in the DVD Shrink "Edit >> Preferences >> File I/O" menu.
If this does not work I'm affraid you'll have to try and get help from someone else as I have ran out of idea. :/

thanks for all your help - it didnt work -
the only thing i can think of is that since i left out the last two chapters - which were only the words going up - thats where the problem is on the original dvd - the whole movie is fine and it finishes - then the words go up - and theres the problem - so since i left out those parts - i think thats why its not working - i though thats how you would fix a problem be leaving out the part thats causing it -
the error says - invalid datat in vts_01_5.VOB - so thats where it has a problem because i left out those last two chapters i belieave - anyway - thanks again for your help - i guess i just cant make another backup copy of my dvd - :(
if you happen to find out anything new to try - please let me know
thanks

I have just noticed your previous post.
It could simply mean the last VOB is simply too messed-up because of the missing chapters.
In any case, I have ran out of ideas.
P.S: you're welcome. ;)

Try some basics as well. Make sure that you have enough space on your HD. Run your diagnostics (Norton for one) and clean up your HD. It helps to run spyware programs.
Delete all those failed attempts.
If you are using In-CD, disable it (or get rid of it). If you have "Easy CD/DVD Creator" by Roxio, disable it it or remove it (prefered- it does not play well with other children)
Then defrag & have another go at it.
Try DVD Shrink (remember to keep you output file to about 4.36gb and also try useing DVD clone (free for 30 days~) available at www. elby.ch.

thanks - i am trying again from scratch - i have dvd clone 2 and didnt work - i do have incd - how do i disable that -? i thought it was good to have - what purpose does it do anyway - - just so you know - this is my first dvd with this problem - i have done hundreds - i have plenty of space - i dont have dvd creator from roxio installed - i do have other programs - intervideo - Nero , dvd clone - dvd region free - acohol 120% - but till now - i cant complain -
its just this one dvd thats giving me a problem -
i dont mind if the copy comes out the same way at least because the whole movie is fine - just when the words start coming up- it gets stuck -- and dvdshrink goes to 99% when analyzing and i get the error so i cant even burn it -
any other suggestions if you come across a similiar issue and figure out a way to overcome it - let me know - i am curious now and dying to figure out a way or program that i can try -
thanks again - :)
