Hello everyone and hey there Markoss - it sounds like you are having a similar problem to me.

GeeDaddy, you sound like you are extremely experienced on this MPT business, do I have the latest version? (What is it?) My phone (C650) is not listed as an available option, yet the driver seems installed ok (v.2.1.0.1 ~ ~ ~ ~ ) as I can upload and receive data to and from the phone but only using the generic GSM phone in the Profile setup. Here look, this is a copy of the text I wrote in another post by WizardTom:

During creating a new profile, I get a msg: "We detected your unit but couldn´t identify it" or words to that effect.

I followed the instructions here to the T (by WizardTom), I have tried on 2 machines withthe same result. One with XP (sp1 I think) and the other with W2k SP4 (v.2.0.0.~ 2195)

I did the upgrade, it said that it was upgrading the files and may take a few minutes. It did, and positioned an icon on the desktop (after I UNTICKED the box in the ORIGINAL instal, not that an icon bothers me, it´s just proof that the upgrade has done something.) HOWEVER, after this "upgrading, this might take a few minutes" screen, it just disappeared with no further boxes/screens of info. So after a few more minutes (5 or 10) I rebooted anyway. Other than that, the instructions from Wizardtom were perfectly accurate and the install went swimmingly.

MOre info: If I then accept that it cannot identify my fone, and I want to choose from its list of Motorola phones, it has tons of phones but the C650 is NOT listed. Furthermore, there is a generic GSM one, that works for my fone BUT NOT for the photos. (This is the purpose of my mission, I want to get the photos off of the phone and onto the PC) THe generic GSM profile only works for Contacts and Calendar, which I have Synchronised and backed up and all works and communicates fine.

The version of Phone tools currently installed is: "2.16 Nov 19 2003 0131119002767"

Any help ASAP would be much appreciated.

Frustratedly yours,
N.

Nutnut,
The latest version is 3.19. What phone are you using?

Cbch,
Delete any previous MPT installs 1st, then follow this.

P2K Drivers:
http://bongowireless.com/file_download.php
P2K driver -- helpfull for getting your cable working. Once you extract the files (just drop them in the same directory you downloaded to), plug in the phone. That should automatically launch the "detected new hardware" wizard. DON'T let Windows search for the driver; point it to the folder with P2K. If set up correctly, you should be able to go into Control Panel, select Phones and Modems, locate the Motorola Modem (your phone looks like a modem to the computer, and can actually be used as a wireless modem if you have a dial-up account), and check that basic communications has been established using the "Query Modem" function. Disconnect Phone!!!

1. Download & install version 1.23c on your Windows 98SE, ME, 2K, or XP computer. -- But DON'T RUN IT OR CONNECT YOUR PHONE!!! "REBOOT"
2. Download & run the version 2.16 update. -- DON'T CONNECT YOUR PHONE YET!!!
3. REBOOT, most likely not necessary just precautionary measures. And it assures windows properly registers all components.
4. Run MPT. When requested to register, just hit "register later". Don't worry about registering, once you run it you'll find out that it's already registered. -- DON'T CONNECT YOUR PHONE YET!!!
5. MPT should eventually pop up a connection wizard. Opt to not look for a phone yet and let it finish loading.
6. Try running Live Update (found under the settings menu in MPT). ?Might not work behind a firewall with serious restrictions!?
7. Close the program.
8. Connect your phone to your cable 1st and then to your computer, wait for it to be properly recognized and install drivers. Steer it towards the folder with MPT installed or where you have previously downloaded other drivers.
9. Start the MPT program. Click "USB" for connection type. Make sure you have selected an open port!
10. Wait for the display on your computer to STOP saying, "Initializing . . ." before you play with the program. ALSO -- look for a little red alarm icon on your computer, if you see that it means there's bad communications going on. It is recommended that you turn your computer's sound on (if you can) the drivers give a little beep when the phone connects, and a different beep if communications drop.

"Modem Driver Tips"
Open up your Device Manager > Modems > Properties for Motorola USB Modem #XX > Driver > Driver Details and make sure it reads 'C:\XXXX\system32\DRIVERS\usbser.sys' under driver files. If you got that far, you should be okay, but when you try to connect to MPT, and you get any kind of driver failure error, update the driver with 'USBMOTO2000.inf' which should be located in the MPT install directory.

Finally, if you got all this and you still have issues connecting, run the New Phone wizard, select your phone, select USB cable, and once the animated clock is running, then plug in your phone. Should work like a charm.

GeeDaddy, thanks for your attention.

Its a C650. There are many details in my post above, but do you think I need the ver 3.11h? In WizardTom´s post entitled "A c650 MPT meathod that works for me." he gave a good list of very definite instructions which I followed very closely on 2 pc´s and he didn´t install v3.11h.

All the drivers seem to work (for windows) and the install was no problem. My only problem is that the new profile wizard finds my phone but cannot identify it because it´s not in the list as provided by the new phone wizard. Yet, when I FIRST connected the phone to USB, before guiding windows to the new drivers (P2K), the box in the bottom right of the screen informs me that the new USB devive is a Motorola C650. TYhis I guess is a windows thing, the problem I am having is an MPT thing, in that MPT doesn´t have the C650 in its list. Arrrggghhh... So how come it worked for WizardTom?!? :(

Thanks in advance.

Respect

N.

-Taken from another thread-

Yes,
I am able to use the phone book tool and the calendar tool just fine, but am unable to use the mobile explorer.

Within the mobile explorer I can see my files in the 'MY Computer' frame and they seem to be fully navicable. But nothing appears in the 'Mobile Phone' frame except the tabs (my phone, my pictures, my music) nothing in the window itself and nothing happens when I click the various tabs.

The text 'Parent Folder' is in outline mode and is not responsive, the text 'Root Folder' is clickable and when I click it a popup window opens with the message "processing failed" and an OK button.

Maybe could be my USB Cable?
Any help
thx

I had exactly the same problem as above, just follow this: -

Now I could not get 3.11h to work, it also knocked out my bluetooth adapter but the following worked great!!

Install MPT lite (as provided with phone)
Do not start the software
Install 2.21b_US (links to this can be found everywhere on this site!)
Click on live update & take all available up to 3.16e
Reboot about 2-3 times....

And wayhay you are off and running, with blue tooth intact (although it had an issue with my ports!!

I have a Motorola V551 and have downloaded P2KMan and XVI32 and Mobile Phone Tools and have successfully been able to change some of the seem files to change certain options, but I was wondering if anyone knew which hex position in the gain_table seem file to change the handsfree volume to increase the volume of my bluetooth headset. I have already raised the eapiece volume on the phone, but that didn't raise the volume of the Bluetooth headset. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
