Hello, I just recently bought the ilo with the HD. I'm having trouble hooking it up through my cable box from Cox. I put the cable from the cable box to the ilo then from the ilo to the tv. Can the Cable Box and the Ilo work simutaniesly together or does one of them need to be turned off? Currentlt i have to click input on my tv for the Ilo to work but then my Cable box dosnt work. Can anyone help me out please?

Sounds like you need a RF modulator. You can buy them cheap at Wal-Mart. It goes between your DVD player/recorder and your cable/satellite receiver. If you have a VCR you can use that as a modulator. Hook the DVD to the RF modulator/VCR, then hook the RF modulator/VCR to the cable/satellite receiver, then the receiver to the tv.

So from this response i take it that i can have my cable box and Ilo working and on athe same time? On the digital cable box i like the menus and tv guide but would liek to use timeshift while watching tv so i need the ilo to be on. But im beging to start to think that the ilo can only be on when i want to record tv and not be on while using the tv so no timeshit. I have the yellow, red, white cables on the back of my tv and connected them to the ilo and from the ilo to the cable box but i still have to use my tvs remote to press INPUT and this dosnt allow me to use the digital cable. Sorry if my questions are annoying or make no sense but i just want this to work.

Have you tried running coax cable from your iLO to your TV? You have to use the "input" channel on your TV when using the RCA audio/video cables.

I have satellite, not cable, but my set up is like the following: My ILO dvd recorder is attached to my vcr (which I no longer use for recording obviously, but it acts as a RF modulator), which is attached to my satellite box, which is attached to my tv. All of them are on at the same time. I use my vcr remote to switch back and forth between what's showing on tv and what is playing on my ILO

So using an RF modulator that will act sort of liek as my vcr would if it was hooked up allowing me to have both boxes on and running at the same time?

Okay sorry about the dumb questions, Okay so can I just get someone to tell me how to hook up my ILO DvD Recorder w/ Hard Drive, and my Digital Cable Box from Cox to my Toshiba Tv that has the yellow, white, red plugs in the back. I just dont understand the conscept of hooking up both my ILO and Digital Box together to my tv so they both work together.

I?m not sure of the input/output connections on a Cox cable box. [The antenna line should go to the box.] If the box has a composite output [RCA jacks, red , white ,yellow they should go to the ilo recorder input [composite]. If not,run a RF line to the ilo RF input. The ilo output [composite] should go to the TV, Make sure that you set the ilo to the proper source signal, If you place a VCR as the first in line The ilo will require a different source.
EXAMPLE--------- My usage.
Satellite receiver RF output is used and set for ch. 3 This goes to a VCR.. The VCR source is ch. 3
VCR output is the Composite [RCA jacks to the ilo Rear input composite jacks. The ilo source is AV rear.
The ilo composite output jacks go to a TV Video 2. The TV source is Video 2.
This is a basic setup. There can be differences depending on equipment and usage. If you play a DVD or HDD it should override A TV program. If you have a VCR, use it, The tuner in the ilo is not the best and its mono. You can also copy VHS tape to the ilo. This assumes that the tape is not copyright or MV is off. That?s another issue
PS any equipment used before the TV [display] MUST be ON, or there will be no signal to the TV

Anyone try the firmware for the green tint? I saved the download to disc and put it in the Ilo and it said load and that was it. Isn't it suppose to say update and go to 100%? I hate this piece of shit sometimes! It just says load for a split second and does nothing.

go to the setup screen and do a system restore/reset. Put the firmware disc in the recorder and see if it prompts for the update. If not, leave the disc in the drive and turn the recorder off. Turn it back on and it should prompt you to update. If not, maybe the CD or the firmware download is corrupt. Try re-downloading the firmware and making a new disc.

Remember, if your recorder has not been previously upgraded to 1097, install 1097 first since it includes a drive update that 1098 doesn't have. After installing 1097, install hacked 1098RevB (no need to use RevA).

I feel like I should pay you for your help. Your help is priceless. I restored, updated 1097 and 1098 hack and it works perfect. The green tint is definatley relaxed but I can still see it here and there but not remotley close to before. Again many thanks , and if it weren't for you and these threads I would have used my Ilo for a shotgun target.

Just joined here because of this thread, I purchased the sanyo recorder mentioned earlier and it worked for around 30 minutes, took it back and got the ilo DVDRHD04, and as it stands right now it works great. Now i need someone to recommend dvd editing software, so i can cut out the commercials

slick44 Your in luck because you can do all of that right on the hard drive of the DVD Player. You can place chapter marks at the begining and end of the comercial break and then just hide it and it will no longer play.

I've got the basic ilo and it is great! (The 238.00)
The guy from walmart said it's the only one he hasn't seen returned. I've had no problems with it at all and I turned all my vhs and 8mm tape into dvd with no degradation.

Hi,

I had my Ilo for over six months and it's the worst audio/video equipment i have ever purchased. The reason is that it has many "temper tantrums" than my childrens.

This system was rushed into the market to take a lead in the DVD recording business, but it's failing miserably. If you don't believe me, just lock at all the postings.

After using it for a few months it started to skip DVDs, it doesn't want to read/write or anything else. In a word, you get what you pay for.

Yes you can upload fixes (if you're one of the lucky ones who knows how to search out info.) Yes, you need to use DVD plus, like everyone knows the difference! Yes, there's this forum, it has world recognition for answers.

This is my last input to this site as I'm throwing the system out the door today, whether the glitch is repairable or not...

Thanks, and spend the extra money on buying something with quality..

Depends. I just leave them in because it generally isn't worth it to edit them out. However, if they are a sticking point for you, you can go into the EDIT mode and cut the commercials out by freeze-framing at the point where the program interrupts for a commercial and remove the offending sales pitch. Problem is, even though you stop the program at the exact frame where the commercial begins, the ilo will actually include the last moment or two of the show in what it removes, so it's hit or miss with the editing feature. Just like with the thumbnail feature--you freeze the shot you want as the identifying thumbnail, but you end up having to go past the scene you want and actually freeze the next scene in order to make the prvious one the thumbnail. This is a good week for the ilo in Nicks's household, as there have been no hair-pulling problems from it. That's cause for celebration around here. Now if those shits at ilo would just fixed the damn green tint problem.....

Are you guys using the regular recorder or the one with the hard drive? I think I see a green tint now and then but it comes and goes so fast, I can't pinpoint it as a problem, working like a charm (so far) DVDRHDO4

I do all the editing of the commercials on the hard drive, much faster and precise than on the dvd itself THEN when you're done send it to dvd....dvd's being slow to respond is nothing new to any brand of recorder from my experience anyway

when I talked about editing I was referring to the hard drive. No matter where you stop the program at the ilo will cut just before that, so you have to go a few frames into the commercial to get the ilo to cut right at the commercial itself. Also, I have the DVDRH04 with the hard drive, and the green tint is an issue with it. On certain shows that have predominantly low lighting, such as "Angel" or "Buffy The Vampire Slayer", you'll see the green tint in the dark areas, such as hair or doorways. Just about any dark shadows will show a greenish color.

yep, Nick that's it then, that green tint, it only happens in dark lighting, so when the scene changes it's gone, sometimes it was so quick i just couldn't tell but really just noticed it with Lord of the rings
