zippyd, those lycoming engines are basically jet turbines whereas the old engines were piston jobs, like you said the turbines don't rumble like the pistons they howl like auslander

The top speed is a little faster than the regular version, but it has incredibly stiff suspension (it's got amazing handling) bigger tires, and a transmission designed to be driven at speeds over 100 miles an hour on a regular basis. I just got it recently and I haven't had a chance to test the top speed myself, but I think it's supposed to be somewhere between 140 and 150 mph.

For ex-badguy chasermobiles, I prefer the Caprices to the Crown Vics'. There are just so many mods available for the LS1. And if you want to get cheap power out of the Caprice, a quick trip to the salvage yard for some Camaro or Vette engine components can produce significant gains.

Overall I prefer the Crown Vics for a handling (it's a lighter car) although if you get one of the Caprices with a Corvette engine it's certainly faster. Since I don't get the chance to drive at high speeds that often the handling is more important than the speed to me. I probably should change the computer in it to boost the top speed a little, but I don't forsee having money for that in the near future.

The other thing about my car that's nice is that it was never actually used by the police. It was bought by the State of Iowa for official use, and I suppose they just got it when they bought state trooper cars. I also got a great deal on it ($1000) from a friend who takes excellent care of his cars. You should see his Corvette (it's either a 1999 or a 2000). After almost $10,000 in modifications he almost never runs across anything that goes in a straight line faster or handles curves better. Plus it gets great gas mileage when he doesn't get on it too bad. Even after all his modifications he still gets 30 mpg on the highway.

I have a '99 Eclipse and it's modded pretty well (although I bought it pretty much like it is). I bought this about a year and a half ago and it was pretty much modded the way it is now. The only addition I've made at all is replacing the T25 turbo with a T28 (which makes no difference to me at all, lol). It's a fairly nice car. Not super fast. I used to own a 97 Trans Am that I would vouche would rape this thing. I'll take some better pictures with the digital camera one day. These are ones I took with my crappy sprint phone at work. Right after and before I bought it.

Some of the mods you'll obviously notice are the rims and the body kit. The guy I bought this from was a ex-coworker of mine and he was obsessed with the Fast N Furious movie. This eclipse is basically a replica of the one he drove in the movie. The only difference are this one is all black and it doesn't have the roof scoop thing because of the sunroof. It's also a GST and not a GSX. I'm not sure if the one in the movie was a GSX or not but I'm fairly sure.

It's been a nice car overall but I have had one serious problem where somehow the 3rd gear linkage overlapped first gear and the damn car was stuck in 3rd gear. Reverse ended up being where 5th gear was and it was just all f-ed up. Also, I let one of my gf's (at the time) drive it and while she said she knew how to drive a standard, she didnt'. She ended up stalling it out and going forward into a concrete protector (I can't remember the name for it, but the thing that stops you from going over your alloted space in a parking spot). The car is extremely low to the ground (I can't even go over train tracks) and when she bumped into this thing is bent the front ground effect inward bent the fiberglass pretty bad. It isn't broken but there's a little silver square in there which is just for looks (fake intercooler or something). It broke that but it's easily fixable as I just need to replace that grill and sand down the front piece and repaint.

The only other strange modifications I can think of are that Jared (guy who sold it to me) put in a row of those tac gauges on the left side going up the door panel. I think just about everyone has these now a days as I used to be a valet for a large casino and I've driven shit-loads of cars with them. I also have a little box that sits in the passenger seat and reads out the pressure of the turbo. I've also learned NOT to screw with this thing. I messed with it when I was test driving it and the car went nuts. Backfiring, missing like I had blown something up. Those computerized components are very, very touchy. I suppose you could call the blow off valve a mod since that was added on. I love that "swish" sound when you hit the clutch. One of the best parts of having a t-charged car.

Edit: These stupid picture won't work unless you "view image" so I'm just gonna put the actual links of the pictures up.
