Some people have downloaded it, which will take for ever even on cable because people are leeching like crazy, so your best off buying it from a website that will sell it, or find someone that lives in japan and can buy/ship it to you. or what a couple months for the U.S. version.

O.K. people,
don't bother tryin' to copy from original and buning it to DVD9.
I tried all known methods, and software, wasted DL disks worth almost a price of original, and it does not work.
Loading PS2 logo, be a safe driver stuff, and than blank. Game is probably protcted, so sit, drull, and moan 'till somebody finds or wait the unknown date for
other than priviledged asian version.
BTW, my PS2 is v7 with MARS2 chip, and doesn't read DL
original games. So bloody Sony makenig us to by a new console, damn shame !

The disc looks to have been created and wrapped using proprietry tools, no SDK or other PS2 tools i have used can open up the files.

If it could be opened it would still be a massive task downsampling the video and rebuilding the image. Where are Kalisto when u need them the most :D 5.7gig to 4.3gig is a hard ratio.

Reasonably we chould expect a DVD9 fix or TOC patch, maybe even a bios fix for the DMS modchip. I doubt a downsample would be possible without removing video files, which is frowned upon on the console release community.

it is not protected. after that safe driver screen game tries to load file from second layer and chips doesnt support that. if it is protected it would stop but it tries to load something. we must resize vol files even if it means destroyng FMV and music but it is necessary.

Right. Ill make life all simpler for you guys. The two rips of GT4 out on the internet are nuked, meaning they dont work. It will be impossible to do anything with them, as they probably have a great copy protection on them. If you've imported the game, good luck backing it up, as I have yet to see a perfect working dual layer DVD backup. Also i doubt Sony or Polyphony would have skimped on the copy protection, as it is such a valuable game. To be honest, in a way im glad that people cant get round them, because as a great fan of the GT series, after watching their 'making of' DVD on Prologue, I appreciate the effort they have gone to to make the game, and am therefore easily going to shell out £40 when its out here. I mean for God's sake, every car in the game has been rented out, analysed using skyscraper-sized supercomputers, driven and tested time and time again, then digitally realised and put into the game - 600+ times!!! So don't feel too bad if you can't get the copy of it working, as this is one of those games that is legendary and is no doubt worth waiting 2 months for, even worth paying for.

we beat all protection. from creation of mankind there was no protection that was not breaken. we will break this too. for our poor people from eastern Europe, Asia, Africa as we cant afford to spend 60€ because our pay is 300€. we too deserve to play it.

Lmao, nice words, but 'We too deserve to play it' - well to be honest, you have the money to buy the game on import, as you can obviously afford a computer, internet connection etc, so buy it instead. You dont make much sense with the 30 Euro thing, but this aint the right thread for going on about wages. Still, its pretty damn hard to get a backup working of a DVD9 game. Has it been done faultlessly before?

Hehe, yeah thanks for clearing that up :p still, i do think the release has been nuked, even though the game gets to the first stage of loading. Like i said, has anyone made a completely successful backup of a dual layer game yet? Also, is it possible to play import games on a PAL console using the latest swap magic?

In answer to your question phuqwepon ive got a 30003R PS2 with an original Messiah 1 chip in it ive had it ages and it boots everything i put in it, although it hesitates slightly before loading the Jap original GT4, which was £35 from www.Lik-sang.com, £12 Express delivery to the UK (you can have free dlivery but it takes forever & i couldn't wait) + the import TAX (£19) If anyone wants to know how good it the game is you'll just have to wait he he he!!! (It's everything i expected & more to be honest)

P4 1400mhz, P4 2800mhz, Packard Bell 1000mhz, IBM T23 Thinkpad, X-Box matrix, PS2 Messiah 1,Sony Ericsson K700i for crappy photos on the move!!!

i dont know what you people are talking about, i could not make it run on the HDD using HDloader or advance, but i burned the image of 6.6gb iso onto a DL layer disk and poped it on my ps2 with the DMS4Pro with toxic 1.1 and it works like a charm, the graphics are amazing, gameplay is brilliant and the selection of cars is out of this world after playing it for a week, i decided to get the originall import version from japan of lik-sang.

Hi, I just wanted to give my input on the GT4 backup thing.

I live out in Hong Kong and got my copy of GT4 on the official release date (28/12). Yes its a DVD9 and its such a great game. I decided to make sure I have a backup just in case something goes wrong with my original copy. Like some of you have experienced, its bad news. I burned 3 times, with different softwares, different brands of media on my NEC3500AG and it just got to the license screen and then blacked out. However, it has been successfully backup by some people who have a Benq 1620 (Pro) DL writer (this is a Taiwan make).

Now apparently, protection on this game is not the problem. The problem lies in your writer and the writing technology it uses. Benq and Philips writers uses the same writing technology. So Philips writers may work but I have no news on that. Another importance is the writing speed. DO NOT GO FASTER THAN 2.4X!!

The below writers have failed to successfully backup GT4 on Mitsubishi and Verbatim DL media. So if you own one of these, forget it...

Pioneer A08
NEC3500A(G)
Sony (All)

I just gave up and eventually found out that GT4 was available at the local pirate corner for just HK$50. Thats about US$5.50. Its a fully working copy on D9. Don't know how they did it, but thumbs-up, they did a great job. Could have saved my money had I know earlier.
