Well if you have managed to unpack the gt4.vol file (which excuse my scepticism) then u have cracked the holy grail thats half the job done.

How exactly and what did you use to open the .vol? No silly answers please. :)

nebbox, when you mount the iso, it reads only the first layer, which is just over 3GB, the second layer only contains gt4l1.vol, about 2,7GB in size... try opening the iso with Apache 2.0 and you'll see both layers...

Well went down to downtown China town here in TO and was able to locate GT4 out of the three places. Cost me $30 Canadian. The guy still have like over 60 GT4 disks available after selling like over 40 already. Bad news is that I was told it can't be burn so I believe these guys since they do this for a living/hobby.

The version is Chinese and he probably either went back to China to pick them up or order a whole bunch of it over shipment. The disks and I mean all the disks look dirty and scratch for some weird reason. It looks exactly the same as all the PS2 disks(scratches and dirty up) my brother brought home of the ones his friends got for him from visiting China.

Now does anyone knows if there is a place I can go and get this PS2 GT4 disk translated? It's all fun and that getting the GT4 but it ain't fun trying to decrypt the language. :(

Its a GT game, if you have played one before then i hardly think you need any translation. I have been playing the JAP version for weeks with no problem whatsoever. Otherwise wait for the US release in English.

I mean if there's a website to go to. So you mean the setup is exactly the same as GT3? Haven't play GT3 for a long time and not only that, don't have my GT3 at the moment.

GT4 is different from GT3, and so are the menus.

Here is the normal translation

I thought you guys would have given up by now. My guess is that the people who know how to downsample games are and HAVE already tried. Obviously conventional methods are/have not worked. SO this means they need to try something else.

Anyone who does not know how to downsample is picking a vERY bad time (game) to start doing it on. MY suggestion is that you get one of the ones that are already downsampled (different game) and read the guides on how to do it. This way you may sort of understand what is involved. If the hex programming for this game is calling for the second layer MANY times throughtout the program then its NOT just a matter of changing the bitrate of the music files. You have to remove ALL instances of it calling for the second layer, and change where it is calling the info from. Games DO NOT work linearly. That means it does NOT start reading from the inside of the game until it reaches the outside, then switch to the second layer and keep on reading. The entire time you play the game that laser is going all over the place accessing data. If you dont beleive me then pop the top off your ps2 and play a game with the cd cover open, you can watch the laser shine right through a DVD game. Even on loading the thing goes from 1/8 from the middle, to right in the very middle to the very outside then back to the middle again. So unless somebody here is very intimate with hex editing you wont be just changing sample rates on the music and videos and succeeding. If it was that easy it would be done by now.

Now about these "nuked" copies. I dont beleive that for a minute. How exactly has somebody nuked these copies? And how did they get nuked? If the original uploader has the file structure started you cannot just add a couple bits of data to "nuke" a copy and have it ditribute on a torrent site with the SAME loader file.

I have my chinese copy coming in the mail as we speak, so I will rip it to ISO and then pack it up. Then send it to whoever thinks they can reconvert and burn it. I will bet you ANYTHING that it will have the same results as your supposed "nuked" copies.

US release is now Feb 22nd. I've now stopped caring about the game being cracked. I wanted to tinker with the Japanese version until the US release, and eagerly await my Amazon pre-order now. I have Prologue to keep me going.

The term "nuked" refers to the sources for the files removing them from general download due to the fact that they do not work as intended (in GT4's case, does not work when burned to a DVD+R DL) or do not comply with scene rules ie a SVCD isnt encoded correctly or sound being 48000khz instead of 44000khz.

Whatever you think nuking is, it isn't.

All ISO's of GT4 have been nuked. Period.

A friend of mine is real keen w/ hex editing and i already gave him a bunch of files from the disc to check out and he believes that he can relink w/ out too much of a problem...I am just waiting and hoping that someone finds a way to decrypt and extract GT4.VOL, without that and GT4L1.VOL extracted we can't really even begin to worry about the hex editing part. WOuld love it if someone found a way to extract that shit...

so basically you are saying that "nuking" is simply removing the entire folder from being downloaded?

For example if I have a 200 mb file, and it is broken up into 10 - 20 mb file segments, one of those segments would be removed from sharing thus anyone who downloaded my file would really only receive 180 mb of it. And that somehow the torrent loader would "think" that the 180 mb of received file was really the whole thing?

I don't care if it is "too late in the game" to learn how to downsample games. Since this game has caused so much trouble for people to burn, don't you think there will be more games like this in the future? In which case it would NOT be too late in the game. Anyway, I'd still like to learn how to do this. I have a 150 IQ and I learn things very quickly. So if you know of a website that teaches this (I checked all over and found nothing) I would love to know about it. Besides I have nothing better to do while I'm at work.

Well the one that I bought, the Asia version is exactly the same as the one I've downloaded with BT. It got the same files and exactly same file size. Funny thing is that the MDS and MDF BT files are around 5.8Gig but if extracted or burn onto a DVD it's only show up 3.24Gig. There are 3 main folders and 5 main files.

I try using Nero Infotool to see if it is a DVD5 or DVD9 but it kept on crashing everytime it load. I try using the DVD InfoPro v3.49 and here's the info:

Media Information

Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO

ASIA...Its definatly DVD9 when you burn it it only displays the information from one layer (Layer0) and if you extract it w/ (WinRAR/Powerarchiver etc) it only extracts one layer unless you use a program such as Apache...which allows you to switch layers and extract a specific layer

Gran Turismo 4 JAP NTSC 6.16 6 Mode 3 (Dual-layer disc, will only install first layer unless PC installed)
Huh? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/casey.miller/HD%20Loader%20Compatibility.htm

Anyways, if someone could just remove those calls to the second layer/redirect them to the first layer then it would work through a Hard Drive program. At least if we figure that out we can start downsampling it. Nobody should be trying to learn to downsample or even try to downsample it at this point. It won't work, learn how to decrypt the .vol files and modify it so there are no calls to the second layer.

it means if you pop it in the ps2 to install it you will only get the first layer installed. If you put your hdd in the PC and install it that way you can load the entire game, but it still wont work.

Its a pressed copy, silver, HK maybe? In stock they said!!?? Mine came from Thailand, stamps, address, language ect. Ok, the game works fine, looks great, dual layer, blah blah blah, but why pretend the're originals?? Or dont they know?? Have emailed them about this but no reponse, thats a shocker eh!?

pmn74, even if it WAS an original you would need a mod chip to play it, so by them saying its an orginal nobody could ever really know. And just about anything from hong kong is for sure NOT an original. Same with philipens and most other asian countries (Except Japan of course)
