its not just extracting the disc, you also have to rebuild the whole thing properly, using the sony cd/dvd disc generator 1.20 or 1.50........then you have to burn the images separately and PREY that they work.......im gonna test it a little later on myself....

i do not think gt 4 can be copied. the best way to get it is to go to e bay. they sell copies that you dont need a mod chip to boot, but of course they cannot tell you that but the prices make it pretty obvious.

why are people worrying about this blue ray stuff? those discs hold about 50 gigs or 10 times what a dvd single layer will hold. they will be too expensive to put video games on that people will buy. about there only practical use will be too package ten or so games together. sony barely uses dual layer discs so why would they do that if and when a ps3 comes out?

you are outright and WRONG....blu ray discs will cost about the same as what dual layer dvdr's costed when they first came out......as for using them......all i gotta say is HIGH DEF.....making a game in high def will DEFINATELY require a LOT more space...and the discs are 30gb or so each...which is only 3 times the space of a standard dual layer dvd disc....reguarding the price, yes the blank discs WILL be uber expensive for end users, but ya gotta remember that game companies would be buying in MASSIVE bulk....probably 200,000+ discs at a time, so they wont cost all that much really for them....

i dont like when people say this game can't be copied... what a great outlook on the situation. Everythings possible... just because you dont know how to get it done.

If your going to make a comment like that i just say keep it to yourself, some people are at least attempting to help out.

i think the question that needs to be asked is: why doesn`t a back up boot without swap magic or a mod chip? i have heard 2 different theories. one is that burners will not copy boot sectors and the other is that the laser reads the bar code. you can be sure the a##holes at sony are reading this. so until someone figures this out there will be no backups of gt 4. i will not be buying gt 4 until it is a $20 greatest hit. so they will not make more off of me. i do not live my life for games.

i know full well everything can be done given enough time. but the expense could be higher then the 49.99 price fix. so i dont think it is worth it. think of it this way everytime you buy something it is like voting. so you keep your rude comments to yourself.

the reason is, is becasue the originals are pressed, not burned. and sony has inperfections purposely installed on each original disc as part of their verification process to determine if the disc is original.

Another thing is, if they do figure it out, how is sony going ot stop it... they are not going to recall all GT4 games and put on a new protection. Sure they might use a different style of protection on newer games, however this war goes on everywhere. Hackers figure out the encryptions and the companies make new ones.

As far as getting the game for $20, If you are a GT fan i'm sure the game is well worth the $50 - dont get me wrong it would be nice for lower priced games, like ESPN is going with the sports series.

Whoa there. Don't be calling Sony people @sshole. They have every right to protect their games. I can understand their games are expensive when it released in the first couple of weeks. I mean people will be doing the same thing of burning the game even if the price are lowered. I think the game is worth $50 dollars if you have friends playing against you msot of the time. It's kinda boring racing against yourself or the computer AI. Be totally worth it if it's online.

I've also heard that they might be closer to getting this crack by the end of this week.

sony`s policies of greed and extortion are what created the entire mod market. they sue places for not honoring their illeagle price fixes. bj`s was sued for selling them for 3 bucks less!!! sony lost but everywhere else sells the for 50 bucks. they could sell new games for 25 and old ones for 15 and make a tidy profit. its the same way with music cd`s. they could be sold for 5 to 10 but they want 15. and they wonder why people violate their copyrights? the bands on the cd`s make part of a cent for each one sold so it is not them. that is why media sales in general have been going down for years. i say just dont buy it and the price will come down.

every time you spend money it is like voting with your wallet. from what you buy to where you buy it. i have wasted $42 trying to make a back up of gt 4. so i wont spend any more on it. i still have two of the $7 discs and 25 days left on my game pass so when that it up i am done with it until the price comes down or it can be backed up.

maybe this will add something but it will take someone who knows way more then me about this kind of thing. i think that if the first layer can be copied and all references to the second layer removed then it will play and fit on a single layer disc. from what i can tell the second layer is mostly fmv. can you use hd loader and a network adapter and play it from the hdd attached to the network adapter?

update:

I burned a copy of the first layer, I put it in the ps2 and booted it. As soon as the first screen showed up I pressed eject on my ps2 and put in my chinese "original", the screen went white. I skipped the intro and pressed eject. I then put my backup in again. I have gone into every menu I can go into and played a couple races and it has NEVER needed the second disc yet.

Here is my problem right now. I have a .I01 backup of the second layer, but I have no software that will allow me to back this up as an .iso type file. If ANYONE knows how to extract the second layer into an iso for burning please IM me or post in here (It emails me an update notice) so I can get this going. I really suspect that if I burn the second layer to a single layer DVD that I will get past this boot screen problem.

I still think this will suck swapping discs, but it may be good news for a bunch of people for now.

well, i toyed with it a bit more and i can tell you this much.....the safe driver screen is NOT in either of the .vol files...i backed it up to 2x dvd-r, and on BOTH backups i got the same screen before it blacked out to nothingness.....i extracted the .vol files and the other files on the disc....burned one disc with everything else and each one of the .vol files on separate dvdr's......i think that it has to access both files simutaniously, at least to boot up the game...i.e. it will read small bits of information off each of the two simutaniously....im still not sure if the second layer is actually written backwords as what was implied early on in this thread.....as far as making backups...i own this game, i just dont want it to get scratched up to all hell and have to fork out another 50 bux to replace it.....

Stinky, in reguards to your thing...i used apache 2.0 to extract the raw files, then used sony cd/dvd maker to make the iso of the second layer of the disc....but it didnt fix the boot problem

I use Sony 2.4x-4x dvd+r DVD's (single layer)but the problem why the game is just showing a black screen is on one of the layers there the intro. no one will be able to fit 6 gigs on a single layer dvd so they put the movie on another layer. someone has to remove when it plays the intro. when we get that the game will just say the stuff like be a safe driver and go to the main menu. I will try to find the thing and remove it so it can skip the inro.

I'd like to try this burning the game to two DVD+Rs.
How did you guys separate the layers? What tools did you use?

I'm a complete newb when it comes to rebuilding games and such. I tried about 4 times once to rebuild a game, and failed miserably each time (Initial D : Special Stage from CD-Rip back to DVD)

Did you guys use DVD Decrypter to rip an ISO? If you did, how many sections into the game is the layer break?

Any mini-guides you guys can post on what you've tried so far?

It's funny that people are still trying to burn away and wasting their DVDs. I mean the best hackers out there haven't gotten it all figure out yet so I don't think us Newbies will be able to get it right through trials and errors. I've already wasted 1 DVD9 and 3 DVD5. The Asian GT4 been out for months now people and no one seem to been able to crack that yet so it will be awhile till this is going to be crack.

Maybe the game took so long to release because they might have spend more time of creating a solid crack proof.

gt 4 was due out december 15. i do not thing it can be copied. the best thing to do is to buy it on e bay. there they sells forgeries pressed from the original but they work with out a mod chip. piracy is the only way to control a monopoly like sony. how much more would games be without it? not that i do it lol!!!

from what i can tell the only glimmer of hope for a gt 4 back up to work is to put each layer on a single dvd and switch the discs back and forth. may just be a simple reflectivity issue with the second layer. i tried memorex with no success has anyone tried verbatim? i think they are both too dark. i do not know how to make DVD Decrypter split a disc. one of the authors told me it does not do that.

I am still trying to rip the second layer ONLY from the original disc. I cant seem to get it yet. I have what I beleive to be the second layer in a .I01 format. I tried changing the name of the file to .I00 so that DVD decryptor would think it was the first layer and just burn it. But its too smart and says its not right. Im an still trying now.
