here is what I cannot figure out.
Your .vol file is just over 1.2 GB SMALLER than my first .vol file. And I dont see the .vol file from the second layer on there anywhere.
If you are telling the truth I think I "may" know what happened. And I will try and duplicate that tomorrow.
But I still do not think this is a legit story.
I give you an unmeasurable amount of credit for actually sticking arounf and being a good sport about this. Most people would not take the time to do the screenshots and whatnot. especially if they were lying.
If you can just tell me how you got DVD Shrink to run in dos I will be on my way for my own testing.

I have a question i'm kind of new to this whole backing up process but up to know i've always have been successful. I use swap magic. I know that GT4 can't be burned to any DL Dvd media but Mitsubishi Kagaku Media Co. has announced that they will realease this May in Japan the first DL DVD-r. So if they do realease this disk then will the ps2 console be able to read it.

the ps2 console reading DL media is NOT the problem with backing up gt4. The problem is the actual burning procedure. I doubt you would be able to use this new dvd-r to backup a DVD9 game and have it work.
BUT
You could use this new dvd-r Dl to backup a FULL copy of dvd movie and the ps2 should have NO problem playing that.

By the Way, Can anyone tell me about backing up KESSEN III(PS2) which was release as a Dual Layer media recently? Like GT4, It came out as DVD9 version in USA, I just downloaded it from warez site, But but everytime I backed it up, I failed. Have anyone tried? I don't think it's like GT4, so there are some ways to burn it...

depends - some chips are able to be updated through flash, but probably not yours. Also some chips you are able to completely bypass and turn off. But these are usually the more expensive ones, and it's probably not available on the one you have. I would contact the maker of the chip or the place where u bought it from and ask them what is up.

my $20 chip has a bypass on it, so I should expect a magic chip should have it as well. On mine you just hold down the reset button on bootup until you see the blue clouds apear on the screen then let go of the button and you will be in dissable mode.
Now on to the important thing. I made my image with dvd decryptor of the entire DVD. I then opened DVD Shrink IN A DOS window, and started to open the image I made......
To my non surprize the game never even loaded into the program. It worked the same as if I had just tried it from within windows as well.
I have one other thing I would like to try while I am here, but I think it will not work. I feel we are dealing with another dream crusher on our forums.
Hows your Grand National working out for you?

Before you guys look too far, look at something interesting.
The volume name of the disc in the DVD drive is "SPINAL_TAP"
If it were a real volume of the game, the volume name would be "GRANTURISMO4" if it were an original or "SCUS_973.28" if he'd rebuilt it himself.
I mean, come on, of course its all bullshit. He simply typed in GRANTURISMO4 on the label of the "This Is Spinal Tap" movie.
And the screenshot of your GRANTURISMO4 is simply an original GT4 game in a DVD drive. DVD drives in Windows XP won't show you second layers. So, you're basically showing us what we can all see if we take our original games and pop them into our computers.
Ps2Guru, people like you really should be permabanned from this place. Thanks for confusing the hell out of the people new to this thread.
For starters : You can't claim to have run DVD Decrypter with DOS command line parameters.
DVD Decrypter is NOT a console program, moron.
If you tried to run it through dos (in windows) you'd simply get the program open in an MFC window.
You say you need to have moderate experience as a programmer to run it like this. Bull. All you need to know for DOS is what path of the program to run, and what command line parameters to run.
I mean, you don't even know what the hell you're saying. DVD Decrypter is a Win32 application, not a DOS program.
Also, you cannot extract separate layers with that program. You can ISO both files, and even specify the break sector, so you can get two files, but you can't just make 2 ISOs out of one with that program.
There's no re-author mode.
And you can't rebuild shit without ISOBuster.
Agh, you've just annoyed us more intelligent people. So "Peace Out" Don't fucking come back.

someone says its a DL problem. But when i backup my game called "the guys game" onto Verbatim DVD+R DL, the backup worked fine (ISO file was 8GB) so i believe problem with GT4 might not be DL problem.???
i looked at the earlier page (page2 or 3 ???) someone said playing from the GT4 backup was possible, by upgrade to DMS4 mod chip???? Is this for real? May i ask which console ver + DMS4 combo that was used? Pls as much detail as possible, i am new to this.
( i have both original games, but i just want to run my backup, so i don't scratch my original disk )

i was away for few days, has somebody offered some solution? or is it still STATUS QUO?
i know first vol is only movie files becasue i extraced it all. it is about 2.5GB so if we remove it all and put 1mb files instead we will have about 4.2GB of the game and only thing that we neeed is to do something with lba.

here is a summary for the people who dont want to read the last 30- pages.
1) GT4 has NOT been backup up and run off the backup alone
2) People have come forward to "claim" they made backups but have not responded to how they did it. This leads us to beleive they are lying
3) The intro movie is NOT the only thing on the second layer and simply "removing" it will NOT solve the DL problem
4) PS2 games are burned in PTP format. Most burners ONLY support OTP (movie style) formats. And even the burners that can force PTP have no blank media to write in PTP to. (All dvd+r DL are OTP only)
5) It is rumored that at least one group is working on a fix to make this into a dvd5 game. These people are smarter than anyone on this forum (Disputable) and will get the copy done when its done
6) Im getting pissed off at all the people either not even reading 1 page earlier and asking the same stupid questions! this thread would only be 2 pages long if all the LIERS stopped posting, and the lazy people started reading.
7) NOBODY CAN MAKE A BACKUP OF THIS GAME YET SO STOP ASKING!!!!!!!!

Suppose this is a DL PTP/OTP problem, then, what i don't understand is that why my PS2 console was able to run the backup version of "the guys game" in DVD+R DL disc. (size=8GB) it was a straight backup by ISO file from Dvddecriptor.

maybe it is the otp ptp thing. cause my coaster is otp while my original is ptp. i dont think it has anything to do with the burner just the software to burn. has anyone tried doing on a dl dvd with Nero?
