gear pro mastering edition 6.05 can write otp or ptp, but that costs $750. that is the only program i have found that could do it.

That is the point we have been making for over 10 pagees of this thread. The PS2 CAN read DL media, WILL read DVD9 backups but NOT GT4, purely because its inherent protection is the way in which it is written to the pressed DVD9 and cannot be replicated with normal buring hardware/software/media.
The calls to the disk will have to be redirected by the group who successfully get this working, which by the looks of things is not easy task. Whichever group claims GT4's scalp will be revered and remembered for some time. :D

we don't need to look at ptp/otp or dvd+r/-r dl anymore, that's not the problem; there are many games that play flawlessly on +r dl in otp mode (i.e the guy game, kessen 3) so why should we continue searching for ptp-burning software or "ghost" -r media???

i think the otp ptp thing is in the software and not the media or the burner. i will see what i can do with the trial version. probably not much because its a trial.

sony will be doing it this way from now on so we need to figure this out or we wont be able to back games up. the price of dl media must have dropped enough for them to use it. as far as them not caring about the cost that cannot be true because every expenditure affects their bottom line. when has anyone worked for a place that did not care about every penny? i hope someone manages to burn it in PTP to see if that works because most of the copy protection is built into the PS2 and not the disc. the games have no copy protection. it would be nice to be able to get rid of the PS2 and play these on PC`s. that would be very hard.

I got the demo of Gear Pro. It has an option to burn in PTP but I don't want to waste a DL DVD on it if it won't work. It says the trial expires in on March 18th I don't know if there are any other restrictions. Also, does my V4 GT3 version PS2 play DVD+R's. I have always used DVD-R and am just curious

I was going to go to futureshop (Canada) to get some DVD-R DL but they only have Verbatim in stock and they are 3 for 39.99. They had Memorex which were 3 for 19.99 but are sold out. I'll have to wait.

PS2guru: I still give you credit for seeing your lie through. Most people make one or 2 posts and then leave.
Your mailbox may be full of requests, but Im glad to say I was on top of you the whole time. You did give me an idea though. But when I went and tried it it didnt work the way I thought I could make it go.
Also I did actually run DVD Shrink in dos mode just for fun and as I stated it makes no difference.
Either way you didnt help anything. plus my little "traps" I used in my posts to prove to myself that you were lying. Thats what gave it away to me.

LOL. I think if a thread gets this damn long just to tell people that you can't copy GT4 yet, the you might as well toss some humour in there. What the hell does Afterdawn need to do? Changes it's banner to say "YOU CAN'T COPY GT4, DON'T TRY! DON'T ASK!!"

Well kids, I just finished making another working copy of GT4, only I was so sick of trying to figure out which files to leave off, I just rewrote the code for the whole freakin game. It took me about 17 hours to do, but now it fits on a 74 min cdr. Only problem is, online play is disabled, and for some reason the sound came out mono instead of stereo. When I figure out a fix for this, I'll post it. Cheers!
