Ps2 Guru might be on to something here. There is no other DVD-9 game that I have not been able to burn to a 4.7gb disc except for GT4. Using the method to rebuild the Guy Game (which is dual layered, and can be rebuilt with out having to downsample anything including movies), you can actually just not include the "arcade" file in that process of rebuilding the image. Second of all, while GT4 is physically on a DVD-9 disc, it can fit onto a single layer disc. Trust me on this, put GT4 in your PC, right click on your drive and select properties, the disc size itself is like 2.51 gb. If you make an image of this game using your favorite program, it will come out to 5.94 gb. This leads me to believe that there are a lot of trash and dummy files on this disc. Over 2 gigs worth. I did rebuild the game using The Guy Game method, and when I burned it, it came out to the exact same size as the properties showed on my PC - 2.51 gb. That means we are very close. I'm gonna try using Guru's method, if it works then good, I got a free copy of GT4 while you all are paying 40 bucks for it (I will also be sure NOT to tell anyone here that it works), if it doesn't, then oh well, I'm out $1 I paid for the DVD. You would think that with as many people there are out there that want/need this game, you'd be willing to try anything, instead of writing dumb sh*t here and criticizing a 13 yr old kid who may or may not be wrong. I'm 26 and if he is right , I'll give him mad props and let him know he's smarter than me, and then I'll go play GT4. Can we please close this thread now, it is absolutely pointless...

I say if people would just read the thread before they post a lot of problems would be solved.

PS2Guru messed up this thread because now we have people like SS2006 coming in two pages to late and saying

"ps2 gurus a liar
he even told me so in the private messages"

If people would just read the damn thread before posting then it would only be 15 pages instead of 33.

And yes I do realize I am using the thread to post stuff that isn't about the game, so you don't need to point that out.

EDIT: PS2Guru, if you keep referring to yourself in the third person i'm going to mushroom slap you.

The problem with the dummy files, is that while they serve no purpose as far as the game play goes, they almost certainly contain code that can only be likened to the old "if" "then" command in basic(anybody remember basic?). Removing these files would probably render the game unplayable. I do believe that this is Sony's latest strategy in it's war against piracy. But, I have personally been on the other side of the fence in this war since 1988, when I first learned how to "back up" games on my Commodore 64, and I can assure you, Sony may have won this battle, but they will lose the war. It is only a matter of time. We just need to have patience, and give paradox some time to crack the case.

My Apple Pro mod supports dual layer, so when the game is released on March 10 I will be attempting to backup my original retail copy to Verbatim DVD+DL using a Pioneer DVR-108.

Reckon it will work?

ps2guru you didnt get GT4 to work. Look the scus that is the main file of the game it tells the ps2 what data to load and what to do. Every ps2 game has it just like an xbox with the default.xbe file. So like I said someone has to edit the scus on GT4. If I had the skills to work with hex I would of cracked the game.

What happens? Just boots up and then crashes? My copy will be be a PAL version.

Is it to do with it being dual layer, or is there some new copy protection they are using? If they could copy protect so easily why don't they just do it with more games? blegh, disappointing.

Hmm, didn't someone say something about dummy files? Usually garbage data is marked as a garbage file. Like 1.garbage, garbage.2 or something like that.

I wonder if GT4 has any junk files... still, the best bet is to resize all the music and remove the intro. Well, unless there are actually calls to physical locations that were hardcoded into the game.

I mean, it'd be really horrible if they decided to just start hard-coding stuff like that into games. As a programmer, it'd be hell to debug, a herculean task that would take lots of time.

I don't know if something like that would have been hardcoded, sounds like time wasted if it was on Sony's part.

Anyways, I'll look into that, if what you guys say about the guys game is true.

Sorry for that, I've read more of the thread now and realise backing up probably won't work. But since I've yet to hear of anyone even attempting to make a 1:1 copy of the retail PAL version disc to a Verbatim DVD+DL, I'll still give it a shot on the 10th when it is released.

By the way, can you get DL-R media? Does Verbatim make/sell any of it? I would rather attempt a -DL than a +DL since I've found +R's are slightly less compatible with some ps2 games (eg. San Andreas).

my bet is that IF there is any dummy data, its within the .vol files, though even those MAY be solid data, in which case, my best guess would be to downsample the music a bit and the movies as well to make it fit on a dvd 5..... i dont think anyone HERE will be cracking it themselves...this includes blatent liars like ps2guru just gotta keep an eye and see what comes up as far as like paradox or some other group...and reguarding the whole thing about making a crack....to do this one to a dual layer would LIKELY not require anything more than a .ppf file when its finished but as far as downsampling, yea your right on that, it will definately require some custom built tools to downsample everything and rebuild and relink the .vol files as needed...i give it another week or two and everyone will be happy probably.

Yeah, extractors, trainers, that kind of stuff is a bit out of my league. Perhaps in one or two years when I have enough knowledge and experience in this kind of stuff I'll become one of the guys who writes trainers and releases software to crack this kinda stuff.

And if I do... I won't be an asshole about it.
I'll release the tools with the intent of handing out freebies with absolutely no need to be thanked for it.

You know what I mean? So many of these groups and people think that they're fucking gods. They think that they deserve praise and respect and lapdances.

The truth is that these kind of people probably hope that someone will like them more in real life if they pirate something that people want.

When I do this, I'll just release, and hope that people leech happily. That'd be good enough for me.

Still no-one found a way of backing up GT4 then? Does anyone have a way of play back-ups of DVD9 disks, without a Mod-chip? I user Swap MAgic but as you prob know, it doesn't work with DVD9 as the TOC is too small on the Swap Magic DVD disk.

Good Gracious, sorry but why is this thread so long and no answer yet.I had to look at this myself, and would help out if I had the game.I just can't believe how long the thread is,it might just need to be put on 2 dvds is all.Just a theory,or the winhex method if it hasn't been attempted might work.I am not up to reading all these pages to find out what all has been done, but when I do get the game.I will try my best to figure out how to backup this game.

HD Advance is better, It allows ps2 to use PC HDD disk for playing game without DVD. very easy to use, however, GT4 isn't working in this either.

Perhaps check back on the 10th when the PAL version is released, it might be copyable. I mean it SHOULD be. I don't see why a 1:1 copy of the game with a modchipped ps2 shouldn't work. The versions floating around on the internet are probably not 1:1 copies of a reliable retail final release.

tom21014, the layer break should appear in the info box in DVD Decrypter.

I have done a 1:1 copy of my chinese version and it would load. I did a 2 disc copy and it plays with disc swapping. I tried PS2 gurus lier way and it didnt work, made up my own way and it didnt work......

The point is that as I read this thread I find out how soooo many people are not only lazy but they are too stupid to even admit that they know nothing about backing up something from DVD9.

I cant help but laugh when I hear people say "I pressed properties on my DVD drive and it only came out to 2.4 GB". Hello!!! your dvd drive is only showing you ONE LAYER! And when you put it in dvd decryptor it is actually telling you how big it really is.

I think most people here have read a thing or 2 about editing code, and think they know what they are talking about. But all your doing is pissing people off that know a lot better what they are doing. The truth is if it was easy enough for ANYBODY on this forum to backup it would have been backed up by now. But since it hasnt then your not going to get it.

Do us all a favor and quit p[osting what you are going to try and make your own baclup. The first 10 pages show everything that you guys think your coming up with. IF you manage to back it up then come tell us what you did. Otherwise everyone please shut up! your not helping anything.

"I dont know everything, but I'm pretty close"

Xzwer " are you mad? there is like 13 pages.." - When told to read through the post to find the answer to his question
