If any one doubts that old modchips don't play D/L discs, i can say that my V3 with a messiah 1 modchip plays my Jap import GT4 perfectly as i've stated pages back on this thread!!

Hey

I have been reading this board for a while now and think i have a solution. The only problem is im in the UK and dont have a copy of GT4 spose i will have to wait till Wednesday 9th, thats when it comes out here. Any way i have this tutorital which i downloaded and a program which gives a step by step guide on how to successfully backup a DVD9 game. It seems very convincing and i cant wait to try it out, but i thought i'd give it to you's so you can try it out before me as i have to wait lol. If you want the rar file with the tutorital and program just send me an email to shady08@ntlworld.com. and i will reply you back with the rar attached.

Hope This works

Chris

FYI:
Even if your burner and/or burning software support PTP burning, THE DISCS STILL DON'T which means that you still can't burn PTP.

Here's a theory of mine:
When you rip the ISO, use ISOBuster to break it apart, then maybe use a hex editing program to turn all calls for second layer data to dummy files (probably FF in hex). You will probably have to do this for all calls back to the first layer also. Then use CDVD Gen and DOS to create a working ISO, then Decrypter to burn, maybe that'll work. I know when you have to crack the ISO, even if you don't delete anything you still get an ISO that's smaller than the original ISO rip. Maybe that'll be small enough to fit on a DVD5.

alright, i think i might have something, i used winhex to split it, then i took the file that i renamed which is now 4,617,089 bytes, tried to put it on a dvd-r, and it said it would not fit, however i am putting it on a dvd-rw, and it is working, i have split the game, and now have it burned on a dvd-rw, but the only problem is that the swap magic v.4 won't read the rw disc, so can i take and burn from the rw to a -r disc using Nero or decrypter, and will it work.or what do you suggest on how to get it from the rw to the -r, which works on every game, using a memorex 16x dual layer external, and i did manage to put one on a dvd-r, but it only fit 81% and i was out of disc space, and it did not recognize it as a ps2 game, that was after i split it and used decrypter to read it then write it as iso file, any ideas, 10 frisbees later.

Chocho, that may be one of the most intelligent posts in this thread. I have been reading this thread for a week and still no end. Like you, i will sit back and save my TYG 02's and DL MCC's for the patch to be written.

Sure you can copy GT4 to a dl disc. No problem. But it still won't work.

The thing that puzzles me is why Swap Magic didn't just make the TOC size bigger in any of their updated releases(just press a Dvd9 game on a DL disc).I am sure they know about Dvd9 games, and Zoneloader was working on that if anyone remembers. The problem was they said it cost alot to manufactor the discs, just an opinion on my part.I was thinking why not manufactor something like that even if it is mad expensive. They would get all their money back, the problem was they couldn't make alot of profit off of it so they did away with it.Sorry that is off topic, but that is how I feel about Dvd9 game situations.Another thing Ps2nfo doesn't do a damn thing for making patches, why is that a big deal it is only like three people working on rips for games from there, but remember it is the actual people not Ps2nfo.If those three people left that made those rips, they wouldn't have shit for Ps2 ripping. The people are DvdRick,Sonix, and most of the time another person. The best place to look at is alucard.cc on rips I think personally. They build programs to rip Ps2 games, have utilities for ripping purpose, even have DB sections for guides of course.I don't think alot of people use that site, but yeah that is a site to look at.

You are right about the PS2NFO thing. The people who are working on the GT4 game are Paradox from what I heard. DVDRick does do a lot and he is one of the reasons I check PS2NFO a lot. IMO I believe that the patch will be on PS2NFO sooner than it will be on here though. Plus I thought it was gay that you have to have a non free Email address.

i am saying this to try to save you all money. GT4 is PTP which you all know. if you copy it onto a DL dvd the copy will be otp. i hope you all read this before making new coasters. gear pro master will burn ptp but the trial version does nothing. it will always find an excuse to quit. i do not know if it has anything to do with media or the burner. dvd movies are always otp. the manual that comes with gear pro does have alot of useful info in it. so it may be worth reading.

Okay, I have a question. If you use DVD Decrypter to back GT4 then it should read it in OPT right? Which means that when it writes it, it will write in OPT. But the data will be reversed so it will actually be like it was written in PTP so it should be an exact copy of the original. Is this right or do I just not know what I am talking about?

DVD Decrypter does not necessarily read in OTP format, it reads in whatever format the disc you are reading is in. That means that if a PTP disc was inserted, it would read it PTP.

Does anyone know of a hex editing program out there that's free? If so, I'd like to take a stab at it.

Well, that download completed. And I'm pissed. It's just an image of the unchanged GT4.

No, I guess it wasn't DVD5. It was exactly the same as my image I got from my original.

I was wondering if the countless hours spent here in this thread was worth the 50 bucks of this game - not a single layer rip but in all its dual layer glory - on a printed DVD inside a dvd case with a beautiful cover and a thick instruction manual. And hey the bottom is blue.

heh. if you guys get it working that would be nice.... but you know... its such a great game... that you could be playing right now.

:)

But you know... I'm poor as sh*t, cause I'm 16 and don't have a job and my parents won't pitch in any money. So I saved up and bought a modchip and a bunch of DVD5s.

And I don't have enough for GT4. Yeah, I know, boo-f*cking-hoo, but I'm just saying that's why I'm not going out and buying it.

Hehe, what cracks me up - other than the 100's of people who just refuse to believe that this game cannot be backed up, is that many of those people have probably spent more than the $50 for the game itself on DL blanks. You could "back-up" your game by simply buying another copy of it.

And guys, if you see a mystery Torrent laying around that claims to be a fixed GT4 and everyone's downloading it but nobody has any information on it in any of the popular forums that you should already be checking, it's not gonna work. You mine as well be downloading britneyspears-REALporn-divx.AVI or StarWarsEp3-DVDRip.mpg. Your odds of actually getting what you think you are will be the same.

I beat the Internet. The end guy is hard.
