Maybe it would be a good idea to patch or modify HDLoader 2.0 and leave GT4 the way DVD Decrypter dump it ?

This may be my first post, but I have been reading this forum for days. I am grateful for everyones hard work. We cannot let this game go uncracked. If we do then all following games will be made the same way and all of our mod chips and swap cases will become useless. The future of copied games relies in your hands. Now go out and crack this game.
I have faith in you.

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow

you guys should be burning on dvd-rw so instead of throwing the disk away erase it and try again. make sure your mod-chip supports dvd-rw.

Just got the PAL version today (9th) so I will be trying to back it up now.

By the way, this PAL version GT4 disc is a silver-coloured dual layer disc (not blue) and the disc says "made in Australia" on it, and it is the PAL version "for sale in Australia and New Zealand only", so it may be a slightly different press to the European PAL version.

I can't even tell if DVD Decrypter has taken the dual layer image properly or if it's gonna burn in PTP mode...this is quite foolish.

I'm 99% sure its not gonna work.

i wonder if it is possible to put each layer in a separate file then burn the first layer onto a dl dvd then burn the second layer onto the same dvd and if it that is possible by doing it in two separate sessions if that would maintain the ptp. basically treating each layer as separate disc then combining them again onto the dl dvd. i doubt the software and maybe not even the disc will support this. would maybe a copy of a copy make the track bring the track path back to ptp?

OF COURSE IT DOESNT $@!%^ING WORK 'CAUSE THE ONLY DL MEDIA AVAILABLE IS FROM VERBATIM AND THEIR DISC IS OTP ONLY!!! ...which I just discovered a few minutes ago

I put the blank disc in the drive and DVD Decrypter says it's OTP.

People, all we need is a +R DL disc that can be written to in PTP mode and I'm sure it will backup.

Also, I'm not sure how DVD Decrypter is taking the image, whether it's preserving the exact format of the original disc.

Seeing as though it lets you specify a layer break point, DVD Decrypter is probably not taking the dual layer image correctly. The image should have the information in it such as OTP/PTP, how many sectors per layer etc. and burn it EXACTLY the same.

Seeing as though DVD Decrypter burnt a PTP image to a OTP disc IT IS CRAP SOFTWARE!!! It should've displayed an message saying "you are burning PTP to OTP disc, this will not be a 1:1 copy" etc.

WOULDVE SAVED ME $20!

Anyway the OTP copy boots to the copyright screen and then nothing.

The game is pretty great though.

But seriously, why doesn't the media say on the label whether it is OTP or PTP? Should be mandatory.

I can't believe this, I cannot find any information anywher that says if the Pioneer DVR-108 can burn PTP or not.

And I can't find any information about any blank +R DL media that can be burnt in PTP mode.

PLEASE, could someone tell me if they know of media that can be burnt PTP and if the Pioneer 108 writer does PTP.

Even these diagnostic programs I've got won't give any of this information, it's mind-boggling!

hi guys after reading this thread i think i may have the solution...

if any of u have ever backed up mercenaries or sonic heroes u'll remember that u had to rebuild the iso using dvdgen..

well i think the prob with gt4 is this.. when u read the iso it doesnt realise it's dual layer so does 1st layer then 2nd to give u iso of bout 5.7 gb

well surely if u used dvdgen to rebuild the iso in the correct order when u burnt to a dl dvd it would work...

so if anyone knows the correct order of the files please post and i'll try..

Actually no, Verbatim isn't the only DL media, Ritek makes them too.

http://blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=280

Not sure if it's OTP or PTP though sorry. I'm not buying a disc to check, only to find it doesn't work. :P

CHECK MY OTHER POSTS. IT IS NOT THE MEDIA THAT CANNOT BURN IN PTP IT IS THE FIRMWARE IN MOST DVD BURNERS. LITE ON 1633SB AND SONY DW-D22A ARE BURNERS THAT CAN BURN PTP. MAY NEED TO USE EXPENSIVE GEAR SOFTWARE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS THOUGH. THE MEDIA ITSELF DOES NOT MATTER + AND - DVD`S ARE SO CLOSE AS TO BE IDENTICAL. IN OTP THE 2ND LAYER GETS BURNED FROM OUTSIDE TO INSIDE AND IN PTP IT STARTS FROM THE INSIDE AND GOES TO THE OUTSIDE.

AS FAR AS MOD CHIPS GO PROBABLY THE DMS4 IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN HANDLE DUAL LAYER DVD`S, BECAUSE BOTH LAYERS HAVE TO BE ABLE TO BOOT. IT IS LIKE TWO GAMES SANDWHICHED TOGETHER. SO UNLESS YOU HAVE THIS COMBINATION THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COPY THIS GAME.

YOU PUT THE BLANK MEDIA IN THE DRIVE AND YOUR DVD DIAGNOSTIC TOOL SAYS IT'S ALREADY OTP!

Then you burn to it from a PTP image and it still comes out OTP, despite having a PTP compatible drive.

Next thing I'll do is try this "Gearpro mastering edition" software, which has an option to burn in PTP mode. I am getting the full version of it right now, so I will try and find some media that can be burnt to in PTP mode and give it one last shot.

Wish one of these cracking groups would release a patch to reduce the ISO to fit a DVD-R, that would be great! :D

Here's what we know so far:

1. Gran Turismo 4 is recorded onto a dual layer, parallel track path (PTP) DVD-ROM. Basically, the data on both layers goes from the centre of the disc to the outside.

2. There are no blank "DVD+R DL" discs on the market that can be burnt in PTP. They are all OTP (opposite track path, data goes from the outside to the centre on the second layer). This is why we cannot copy it properly. I have foolishly tried making an OTP disc, as many others have, and we all know it boots to the first screen and then crashes, most likely because it tries to load something off layer1 and the data is not there because its been recorded in reverse order.

3. It is possible to extract layer0 and layer1 to two DVD-R's and get the game to boot from disc 1 with layer0 on it, and then do a hell of alot of swapping between both discs. It's impractical though.

4. People have claimed to write in PTP mode to a DVD-R DL. This will not work because the PS2 laser cannot read the -R DL book type. (-R DL's aren't even on the market yet so I don't understand it anyway).

5. You'll obviously need a mod chip that supports booting dual layered backups if you want to have any chance of playing a backed up copy.

4. A crack group is probably working on a patch for a cracked version of the game image, shrunk to fit on a DVD-R 4.7GB disc. Or a patch release, hopefully, so we don't have to download a huge file to make a backup.

If you can tell me where I can buy a +R DL PTP burnable disc I would be very happy!
