Guys,

The only way to back this up - is wait for a program that will let you burn independent layers on a dual layer disc.

Extract first and second layers as separate ISO's.

Then burn ISO 1 to layer 1
Then burn ISO 2 to layer 2

This will ensure PTP (Parrellel Track Path) is preserved! - Is there such a program in existence?
NERO lets you put seperate data on seperate layers, you get two explorer windows, one for layer 1 and one for layer 2, anyone tried that method?

5. You'll obviously need a mod chip that supports booting dual layered backups if you want to have any chance of playing a backed up copy.

We won't if we can manage to remove all the call's for Layer2. Layer 2 only contains the GT4.VOL which is present on Layer1. So Layer2 is not needed. It is just there to give us hell ;)

4. A crack group is probably working on a patch for a cracked version of the game image, shrunk to fit on a DVD-R 4.7GB disc. Or a patch release, hopefully, so we don't have to download a huge file to make a backup.

Im going to guess when someone finally figures it out, that the release will be half the size of the current releases, sence Layer2 will be removed. A PDF patch engine would be great :) Then the fix would only require a tiny download.

The 2.78GB that you came up with is just the first layer. If you multiply that x2 sence there are two layers, then you get your 5 or so gigs ;)

Rather than wasting your precious time trying to make a DVD5 back-up of your DVD9 game and wasting blank after blank, download the DVD5 rip of the game and stick that on a DVD5 - you'll have a working back-up with all the time and money wasting stuff inbetween buying the game and backing it up done for you :) Here's the BT link:

This is what I did to just archive the game, for when it does get cracked/fixed. Feel free to add correction's if I should of did something different.

1: Backed up the game like normal with DvD Decrypter. I put it in a safe place for later :)

2: I opened the ISO in Apache2 and extracted each layer to seperate folders. I also created filelist.txt of each layer

3: I created a New Project in CDVDGEN as a "Dvd Rom Master Disc". I dragged all files from my Layer1 folder to CDVDGEN. Then I clicked "Layout" and manually put all the files in order by LBA according to my Filelist.txt for Layer1. I clicked "Volume" and for disk name I used "SCUS_97328". For "Volume Name" I used "GRANDTURISMO4". I saved it as a .iml file. I did the same thing for Layer 2.

4: I used "IML2ISO" to convert the iml's into iso's.

Layer 1 ISO = 2,676,346,880 bytes
Layer 2 ISO = 2,596,204,544 bytes
Dvd Decrypter ISO = 5,314,478,080 bytes

So I have 3 Iso's. One from DvD decrypter and 1 of each layer with the proper LBA sctucture for each layer. I don't know if I had to do all this or if it will even be compatable in the future for the fix, but o well. I learned a few things along the way.

This was all done with a retail USA version of GT4.

lads please can you post a list of where the files should be complete with lba addresses cuz im sure ur all getting far too technical about this..

if u put all the correct files in correct place and burn to a dl disk then as long as ur ps2/mod supports it, it should work!!!

the way u should be looking at this is its just a game on a dl disk rather than get bogged down with all this bulls**t about ptp and otp!

get me the info and i will back it up and post results!

(by lba addresses i mean like on sonic heroes where u had to rebuild the iso and put all the info in on where the files where on the disk)

im positive it will work!

I think that has been done :(

I would post the filelist.txt but I no longer have them. I deleted all my temporary files. You can just open the iso in APACHE2 and get the filelist.txt for each layer. Right click in the white space to the left to switch layers in APACHE2.

I was wondering does the DMS4 with Toxic 1.2 support DL disks? I had a junk modbo that would boot my GT4 to the first screen like some of you have experenced... since then I have switched to a DMS4 Pro with the Toxicbios 1.2 and it doesnt seem to want to even boot the DL disk.

Thanks

you guys are really getting on my nerves!

it seems that ALL the posters from the last couple pages are just recycling the first 10 pages of info.

Your guys' stupidity is making me even more upset.

First of all the game is not just 1 Layer with 2.4 gb of data!! you fricken retards!! get a real program and look at the second layer

Second of all, the second layer is NOT just a copy of the first layer! How many of you have played a game that is 2.4 gb in size?? what was that game like? Now how many people have played a game that was 3 - 4.5 gb? How massive was that game? How much detail was there? How the hell do you think you can fit over 300 cars with millions of polygons into 2.4 gb!!!?? I assume its not all of you that are this retarded to think ditching the second layer will make it work, but get real guys!!!

My advise to all you wanna be "hackers" and "cracker" and straight up retards is to spend the time you are taking to try and "crack" this game and READ the first 30 posts of this thread!! Not only will you learn something (Mostly how dumb you really are) but also that you are NOT TRYING ANYTHING NEW!!!!!

All the "simple" fixes have been tried to death! so the only way you are going to compress this game into DVD5 or back it up to DVD9 is if you get a brain! I dont care if you have to borrow one from the monkey at the zoo, but lets get real guys! the truth is that NO ONE on this forum is smart enough to crack this game with the tools you are trying!! You can think your a genius, and have a 200+ IQ, but I dont care!

The real proffesionals are working on this game right now, and if it was as easy as moving a .vol file, or just deleting certain things then it would have been done 2 months ago. SO unless one of you retards know how to use hex, code video games, and extract .vol files you wont get this backup up.

Now stop being stupid and posting nonsens about how you are going to try this "new" approach that your too stupid to know has already been tried!!

Instead of telling us what you are "going to try", why dont you MAKE A BACKUP THAT WORKS, then come tell us what you did!!

....frickin retards, geeeze!

ps, I give takenover much props for being smart about this. He at least made backups of the entire dvd and backups of each individual layer. So now when the real proffesionals make a ppf fix for it he can patch it and play it all day! while the rest of you retards are trying to play Mc frickin Gyver, or Douggie freakin Howser!!!

The rest of you morons could learn a thing from this guy!!

I can't believe this, I cannot find any information anywher that says if the Pioneer DVR-108 can burn PTP or not.

And I can't find any information about any blank +R DL media that can be burnt in PTP mode.

PLEASE, could someone tell me if they know of media that can be burnt PTP and if the Pioneer 108 writer does PTP.

Even these diagnostic programs I've got won't give any of this information, it's mind-boggling!

I believe the Pioneer DVR-109 supports both formatts :) Good Luck!

Is there a way to remove music from within the game which might bring the size of the iso down?I have my iso open using winrar and tend to delete any files i can for a safe operation or would it mess the game up without these files?

you need to put in a dummy file by the same name in the same format. then the ps2 would think it was playing the file the way it was intended and never know a difference.

Yeah Stinky_1 all these morons seem to be 12 or so? How stupid can you get?????? If they're any older they're really retards.
Takenover seems a bit smarter than some but even he thought that 2nd layer is a copy. Take a look at the data on GT4L1.vol and you know that it is no copy.

Listen up kiddies the entire second layer is made of videos. There's the intro, the end credits video and a big part is the intro videos to all of the tracks. So making the game fit on a DVD5 is easy, 'cause the credits only is almost 500 megs, downsample the intro video a bit and it fits nicely.

Anyway this game's so awesome everyone should really consider buying it.

I belive I read somewhere in this thread that the two files were compared and were practically identical. I could be mistaken. I will have to re-read the thread once again lol.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hey Stinky,

I know my copy wont work... I have read almost all 30 pages... all i was asking you "PRO"s was if DMS4 had DL support because mine didnt appear to have it. I dont remember reading it... Plus the fact that there was so much smack rolling around about if or if not the DMS4 would work straight up... and I can honestly tell you now it dont... unless I'm missing something... so Genius... Do your damn thing...
