Adding the specs for your PC would be helpful as well.

If one wants to use the editing method, it doesn't bother a soul. As long as everyone realizes it is no longer nescessary with the updated versions of DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD with the current movie encryption. New encryptions with new movies come out, so the method has it's merit as an interim fix while the software decryption catches up to the studio encryption.

Hey DVDrip dude, yes the ending on FNL stinks. But thats not the point the movie could be "The thin red line" probably the worst movie ever. But its the idea that we must be able to break hollywood. I could care less if the movie is the teletubbies bomb manhatten its the thought that these schmucks can beat us! So I for one will do everything in my power to fight hollywood.

Really??? Teletubbies bomb Manhatten. When does that one open? I thought we were backing up our DVDs and not at war with the people who are producing the works we're wanting to keep. Anyone wanting to fight Hollywood can do so by not watching movies.

My rights to own only one copy of a movie. Gone is the days when I had to repurchase my movies that the VCR ate or lost on those pointless trips all over the planet. I also swear that airport luggage inspectors love my taste in movies as I seem to lose alot when traveling through LAX. I also like the idea of remastering all my movies so rid myself of movie spam and crazy fbi jargon. In short movies on my terms how I like em. Does this sound like you or am I alone in the world?

Copyright laws and the Millenium Copyright Act. Sure, we have the entertainment industry to thank for parts of it due to their influence. However, did you ever think the problem is much closer to home? Thank your Congressmen and legislators. Add to the thank you list all the good citizens who didn't take time to make their opinions heard. Add to that the good citizens who didn't care enough to even form a knowledgable opinion. Don't forget the judges that like to legislate from the bench. It may be a lot of push from the entertainment industry, but as far as fair rights usage covering allowing a backup for purchased works, our fellow countrymen, legislators, and the judiciary are the ones who made the situation what it is.
A lot of us think the current laws are wrong as they are being interpreted by the courts. But, it appears those who disagree with the law are the minority at this point. Like any business, the entertainment industry will try to maximize their profits. If you think in terms of a battle, at least form the lines accordingly. The entertainment industry is supplying a product we want. Do you want to be at war with them? They are bound by laws, only the laws agree with them. They didn't make the laws. Plus, if it was a fight with this industry, they can win easily. After all, they would be waging their war with our money. The only way to hope to win is by influencing the legislators and the judiciary.

Brobear you live in a legislative fantasy land. If you think you have the ability to change the law when your fighting huge lobby dollars your nuts more power to you. In my home state of Pennsylvania when the congress wants to pass a new tax or hugely unpopular law they do it in special closed door sessions at 2am when everyone is sleeping then they can say nobody made any objections ok its passed. Remember this he who has the gold makes all the rules and you will soon learn the cold hard facts that the people of the united states have 0 say in how its run. Everything is bought and paid for deal with that! Complain all you want about people not saying anything because it doesnt matter it never has and it never will.

Don't ever believe I live in a fantasy world. Plus never believe that involved citizens can't make a difference. I realize an individual doesn't stand much of a chance alone. That's why I mentioned people working as a group. According to what you say, it doesn't make a damn whether we vote or not; the government is in control and the military or law enforcement will come after us at their whim.
Luckily, we are still protected by the constitution. I don't for a minute deny power politics and money gives favor to the rich. But according to your point of view, there would be no conservation laws, no political freedom, and no rights at all. You describe a dictatorship with power controlled by industry and the rich. Granted, they do have a strong influence, but politicians still have to serve the citizenry or face being voted out of office.
The last time I checked, we weren't under a dictatorship. So, far we don't have a totalitarian government. I don't look at it through rose colored glasses, nor am I an anarchist. So, before you go into an anti-government diatribe, realize where you are. You have the freedom to do it. In some countries, the thought police would be visiting you.
And yes, I will continue to complain about those who sit on their ass and do nothing. At least I let the politicians I vote for know where I stand and try to be a part of what's going on. It's the defeatist attitude that leads to people in power getting away with shady politics. If the people of your state voted out the characters that sneaked in an unpopular and unwanted law and voted in someone who would represent them, then you and the people of your state could make a difference.
When everyone thinks the system has failed and doesn't take part in it, then it has failed. But then it is the people who failed, not the system. I think I'll rely on democracy for a few more years. Maybe there will be enough of it left to keep me happy for the rest of my lifetime. I'm not using those rose colored glasses yet, and I hope I never have to. Some people need to wake up before it's too late though.

If you believe your collective group can change the government more power to you. As a person who has worked in the government its all about whose butt you can kiss the most. All of Bush's people and the presidents that came before him are all people who supported the presidents election. What does that say when we have people running the government who arnt qualified? Pork brother pork! If they dont spend the money congress takes it away for next year hense the $300 hammer. Its all just 4 or 8 years till the elected lackies become lobbiests for some corporation. Win your job get your cash. Do you want me to draw you a picture I have crayons.

Crayola representations by a disgruntled government employee doesn't make much sense. Guess your experiences have made you cynical. When you move to Canada or another country, you can use the crayons to write us a post card. Until you decide to leave the horrible US, I don't give a lot of credence to your presentation. Or do you think you have to kiss ass anywhere you go in the world?
BTW, this isn't an appropriate topic for a help thread. If you want to discuss topics of this nature, there is an open forum thread where anything goes and you can discuss it to your hearts content. Either this thread needs to get back on topic or be closed.

Quote: So I for one will do everything in my power to fight hollywood.
That was your statement, not mine. I simply asked why.
Heat??? Little can be applied over the internet, and arguing politics or religion is futile if not stupid. A good reason to call a halt to the discourse. No one changes anyone's point of view that way. You have resigned yourself to either being a bum or a thief, or both. Irrelevant, but it says the world about where you're coming from. Quote: ..., if your really good you dont have to pay for anything. Its hard but it can be done.
We would never see eye to eye and any further discussion would be fruitless. This thread is dead, so I'm dropping it. Arguing for argument sake is the act of a child.

Hey fellas:
Ive read the entire section concerning some of the troubles we are having copying certain movies. First I would like to ask, what is "RB/CCE, and LBB?" Second here is my situation. Ive have been using Shrink to copy all my movies w/out fail until the new releases lately such as "The Forgotten and The Grudge" which been a real pain in the ass to rip. I place the dvd in my dvd burner, I open shrink, click on open file, the pop up box shows my drives asking which to analyze, and usually it would show the name of the dvd in the burner but lately it hasnt. So I click on the drive which has my dvd to start the analyzation process, and I only completes about 18% on The Forgotten and 25% on The Grudge until it froze. I had to shut down shrink by task manager. Ever time I try, same thing happens. Please help.
Im going to try what some one suggestion to clean out the computer, run adaware and clean registry, then reinstall shrink, decrypter, AnyDVD, dvdcopy3, and try it again...ill be getting back to yall if it works..until then has this happened to any of you out there? reply back

Just wondering if you have auto read turned on when you put in your DVD. I have noticed a small file that is run whenever a disk is put in for a new movie. I wonder if this file is causing the problems people are having. I dont allow auto read and I dont have any problems with any movies. I dont use anything other than shrink and I dont have AnyDVD. I dont rip with DVD Decrypter first although people say it increases quality. I dont see the difference on my 65 inch toshiba. Hey brobear you say you dont want any trouble but you always talk trash. Im not disgruntle or a thief. I might be a tad cynicle but thats from wisdom and experience im 35 and dont know what to do with myself these days.

Thx for your reply. Im like you..Ive never really encountered a problem i couldnt solve with DVD Shrink. Ive been using shrink for a good while w/out fail until recently. It seems as though the new releases are not analyzing with shrink for some reason. Like I said earlier when i start to analyze the grudge it hangs up about 25% and completely locks up. Sometimes I have to reboot my whole system. Now I tried "bbmayos" way to rip the dvd to a dvdr with DVD Decrypter and it worked but i bypassed a couple of his instructions and I have a question for him or any of you out there. His instructions were to decrpyt it with dvd decrpyter and once thats done open shrink reauthor method and drag over the main movie only, which i did. Now heres my question??? In shrink once you click back up, a box opens up which is dvd backup. theres a drop down box which says "select back up target" and a drop down box which says "select target image file" these boxes i leave alone because it specifies that it will pull the files from my selected HD and the select back up target is my plextor dvd burner..now i leave these alone and click ok..then it goes througb the encoding process after that is done is ask for a blank dvdr to be put in the burner, i click ok then it burns it..i work fine on my dvd player..now according to "bbmayo" he at the dvdbackup box from shrink under "select backup target" he clicks "iso image file" and select target image is his HD ofcourse..you know what instead of me blabbing on and on about it heres his link http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/reccomended.html look towards the bottom..why doenst he just encode w/shrink and put a dvdr in when asked to burn..why would he go back to dvddecrypter..why the xtra steps????
thx

Yeah I dont know why people use more than one program I cannot tell the difference. Although I hear from some people they can tell that vinyl records sound better than CD's. Just a thought but you are scanning your machine for virus's right? I know this guy who downloads movies all the time and he says that some movies online have built in virus's from hollywood to disrupt and taint the movies. I will keep my ears open for people who might dupe your movie titles and we will see what their solution was. As your movies arnt on my watch list.

I had quite a few problems with trying to backup Friday Night Lights. I tried using DVD Decrypter then encoding with DVD Shrink, but it kept freezing up and would not encode. Then I tried using AnyDVD 3 and it kept freezing up my system as well. Finally after saving the files to my HD I used Shrink to reauthor the dvd and only backup the main movie files. This seemed to work really well and I didn't have any other problems, I just could never get the whole disc backed up extras and all.
Carpe Diem!

I also tried to backup this disk with dvdshrink and anydvd4562 running in the background and it stopped encoding immediately when I requested a full backup but for movie only, it does not seem to be a problem.
Trying to run the latest DVD Decrypter to rip the movie was not the problem but shrinking the movie down to fit a dvd-r, I get the same problem. It would not encode.
I am trying to still the picture of the unreference material and that may have done the trick in getting a full backup copy.

I had no trouble with Friday night Lights backing up. I used Shrink (not the newest version) and assumed it used Nero to burn. It never says so but did fine. I was having a lot of problems with computer locking when just putting in a DVD or at the end of writing a DVD. So I removed any unused programs that could write DVD's and turned off Norton anti-virus. This greatly improved my lockups. My biggest problem is deciding which media the Dash or Plus to stick with. I am presently tring to get all my home video tapes on DVD. This way I can duplicate them without any degrading of the video for family members. Most have trouble using any I do with the dash media. So I send them both as the blanks are getting cheaper now. If you shop around you can get name brands on sale for less than 40 cents each. I have found out that the newer players prefer the plus and have trouble with the dash. But have been told that the newer doublelayer writers writing single layer media gives different results. If you get a good combo that works for most players you have to be careful to keep it by monitoring installed programs that can get in just being on the Internet. I found spyware to be biggest problem ever. When I upgraded to sp2 I ran a removal program that microsoft had for free and it cured a lot of my problems. Not all spyware removal programs work 100% and sometimes causes damage to your computer. So be careful out there, they are listening.

Well i have jsut joined the group of people who have been having problems backing up FNL. I downloaded the new dvd decrypt and it creates 2 files (iso and mds). The problem arrives when i try to use DVD Shrink. When i try to shrink the mds file or the iso individually it stops at 5%. When i try to open both of them with the open folder button i get a "failed to open VIDEO_TS.IFO the sys cannot find the file". Im at a loss right now so any help would be appreciated.
Also i just downloaded AnyDVD im just trying to figure out how it works.
