Has anyone noticed the quality on your TV and stereo isn't the same as the original DVD?

I can sometimes see distortions on a black background and at times I can hear a distortion on my speakers. I usually hear the distortion when the movie has loud background music; After a base note is heard.

Any help? Thanks.

Hello whysokold, DVD Shrink and Nero work awesome for me.Using the quality enhancements on larger movies give me a near perfect copy.

How does that backup look on your pc?
The drive that burned it should play it ok.

Those issues you have point to your media.

What brand and format of media are you using?
How fast are you burning?
What program are you burning with?
Do you have ac ch3,5.1 english only ticked when you make your backup?

Also list your pc and burner specs and any other burning and ripping program you have on your pc.

The more info we get,the faster a solution you will recieve.

You try to re-author your movies? If not look at your compression ratio and if the percentage is below 70% then try re-authoring. I re-author mine by taking out the menus and extras and try to get as close to 100% as possible. 100% is best quality.

I have no idea what speed I am burning, it is set to automatic. Slower the better I assume.

I'm using +R's and a generic brand of discs. Does anyone have a recommendation on a brand that works good?

DVD shrink does the burning.

What settings do you set for the audio? Do you only use 5.3 english?

It is hard to test on my computer, I don't have any good speakers.

Thanks for your help

It's not the same quality because it uses compression. Try removing the extra languages that are not needed before doing a full disc burn.

I'm trying to re-author a movie and I only chose the main movie to be burned. If I manually choose to control the compression ration I can only get about 60%. 80% is 4.4 gigs and I have a 4.7 gig DVD. Anyone know why?

Second question; Do I need to save the 2 channel english and the 5.1 channel? I normally only watch them on my home system where I have 5.1, but I may bet a portable DVD player or something else that doesn't have the ability for that many speakers.

Thanks in advance.

clarification - 60% is just under 4.0 gigs and 80% is about 4.5 gigs. Why does it tell me that 80% is too large when I have a 4.7 gig dvd?

Because you don't really have a 4.7 Gig DVD.

DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL and DVD-R/DVD-RW exact sizes
DVD-R/DVD-RW = 4 706 074 624 bytes ( 4488 MB )
DVD+R/DVD+RW = 4 700 372 992 bytes ( 4482 MB )
DVD+R DL = 8 547 993 600 bytes ( 8152 MB )

You really only need 5.1 though there may be a few players that will have problems with that.
