Hi All. I'm not having a problem per say backing up the movie to DVD, as I'm not trying to do that. My problem is an audio sync loss issue. I'm suspecting it has to do with the 5 minutes or so of blank space in the beginning of the movie. Has anyone figured out a reliable mathod to remove it, without messing up the audio synch? I'm wanting to convert this to XviD, but so far; the audio has been out of sync.

It would also seem when using DVD Shrink, you have several minutes of nothing occuring before the movie starts. Is this something your all living with, or removing in some fashion?

i read many problems with back up of the full dvd heres what i did step by step
1. open dvd DVD Decrypter i open it up and highlighted all files but VTS_14_0.BUP,VTS_14_0.IFO,VTS_14_1.VOB,VTS_15_0.BUP,VTS_15_0.IFO,VTS_15_1.VOB. then used decrypter
2. ran dvd file in DVD Shrink
3. burned with Nero 5
it worked for me , let me know if it works for a full back up for you ?

Aha! I got it. I'm not sure yet! if this will work for the other copy protected dvds, but here is how I converted it to XviD:

I ripped it with dvd decryptor (the new one);
Loaded it in reauthor mode in DVD Shrink, manually set the start frame to the beginning of the actual movie (it has over 5 minutes of nothingness otherwise). Let DVD Shrink process it. Since the movie was under the dvd-r file size limit, DVD Shrink didn't transcode it, but did correct the audio synch issue.

I was then able to load it into Gordian Knot and process it into a nice 1cd XviD rip.

I'm assuming I can also burn the DVD Shrink files to a dvd and watch it fine on the tv, without the 5 minutes of nothingness before the movie starts.

I'm going to try this same procedure on Little Black Book this evening; I'll keep you posted.

Hey I just wanted to let everyone know that I have succesfully backed up my copy of the Grudge.. I used the most recent versions of AnyDVD along with DVD Shrink and then DVD Decrypter. The funny thing was that I tried to burn it and I had so many errors like crazy. Then I tried my brothers movie(the original too) thinking that maybe it might work and well it actually worked. I was so happy, so my suggestion to everyone that is having a problem burning it try another movie and see if you get as lucky as me....

Also I want to thank everyone and this forum for all the info contained therein it helped me make my decisions on software and hardware and oh yea you guys saved me alot of money by not buying the programs to rip and burn my movies...Thanks everyone...

I burned it with DVD Shrink without any problems. Very easy burn. No errors. With a lot more of the new titles, I am having to use both decrypter and shrink. Not with this title though.

I was getting pissed that The Grudge wouldn't copy until I used the latest of both AnyDVD (running in the background of course) and DVD Shrink and it worked fine. Although, I wonder why people waste all kinds of HD space by having Nero installed. Nero just takes up WAY too much unnecessary space. I use Alcohol 120% to burn off my .iso files. This program takes up alot less space and I find it's alot faster than Nero. Nero gets a ZERO in my eyes.

i also couldnt get it to rip in the latest decrypter in file or iso mode (i/o error at 80%, file 3_02) and shrink also showed cyclic redundancy error and this was with the latest AnyDVD version and trying to do a full backup.
i eventually used CloneDVD (with AnyDVD in the background) to copy all except the extras where it would get stuck everytime (file 3_02), i never watch the extras anyway and it gives better quality without them- the main film being less compressed.

For this problem, I suggest using DVD Decrypter and then VOB Blanker. These two programs get rid of the protection and then you can use DVD Shrink (shrinking the files in the new folder you created with the other programs, not the original dvd) and burn onto a disk. takes about an hour longer, but it works!

We performed the operation with AnyDVD/DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor/DVD Shrink paths and both worked for us. Note, we have had better sucess with DVD Shrink 2.3 as opposed to 3.2. At the begining of the DVD Shrink process, you see a green horizontal and vertical bars with a jogger superimposed. With v.2.3 it sits there for a little while then procedes. With v.3.2 it sit on this screen for a long time, until it errors out. We made a backup of our "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind" DVD. The green bar jogger screen appeared on both versions. v.2.3 completed without any problems, while v.3.2 sat there awhile, then errored out. This was done without the aid of AnyDVD or DVD Decryptor. As far as "The Grudge" is concerned, I wonder if different versions and types of the encoded DVD security are implemented. Just a thought for those who continue to have problems making their backup copies.
