I have the Chinese version. It's on a dual-layer DVD... But I don't know how to change it to English!

Is that really true? Should I be able to play GT4 with Swap Magic if I load in a game with a high TOC? I own an original copy of Xenosaga, and that's like 8 GB in size. If what you're saying is true, I should be able to load GT4 as a straight 1:1 backup so long as I do a TOC refresh with a high TOC game?

Interesting. However, I have no way to try it, I haven't gone out and bought DL discs. To tell you the truth, I'm not going to until Team Toxic releases their ISO patcher for DL games.

Actually, I remember someone (I think it was l-burna) saying that Swap Magic will accept a DVD+R DL but will only read the first layer, and use the first layer's size for the TOC refresh.

An update to the progress of GT4,I used a different program called Zandal's Vol File Manager.I joined the .VOL files together and extracted from both with the program mentioned above. Then put everything back together in Sony CD/DVD Rom Generator, then opened up command prompt and instead of making it a .ISO format made the extension .VOL.I came up with a .VOL file 2.61Gig in size.I reconstructed everything in a .ISO file and burned it,it booted to the first screen then just keeps reading the disc for a long time. The issue still lies in the Dvd checks.I guess I am going to go back and look to see if I can find any Dvd checks with winhex or hex workshop either one should work.Hopefully someone can find these Dvd checks,we all know one is at the very beginning of the game as samuels mentioned. Then the others I would think are near the movie files, just guessing for right now.

just wondering, has anyone tried running gt4 on an emulator? I've got a pretty good PC and I'm thinking if there is a good ps2 emulator i'll just make a copy of gt4 and play it on that. if anyone has successfully done this, clue me in on what emulator you used and how you copied the game. thanks.

You won't get most single layer games working on an emulator, don't even bother trying with GT4. And I tried my friend's swap disc with GT4Chin and it didn't work... but it's working fine on my Duo2'd V9 so I'm good. :)

I found the tool here Gamer66 http://www.btinternet.com/~ps2rippininfo/tools/volview.zip ,and the file should be called volview.zip.I hope this helps out. What I did was joined the two .VOL files with Simple File Joiner. Then open the joined .VOL file in this program volview which gives you a the whole layout of the .VOL.Inside the .VOL are subdirectories, which means you will have to make folders and extract the files in the specific order in the subdirectories.I also have the full layout of the directories and the subdirectories if this helps you out.The list is too long to put on here, but if you want you can download it here http://s37.yousendit.com/e.aspx?id=1LC96W0TFRQR23F23K1CWBYE1B .I hope this helps anyone that is willing to look into it.

Peace L-Burna

O MY GOD!!!!!!
i just made a successful backup!I refreshed the TOC with a higher TOC from Xenosaga.I then used simple file joiner to join the two .VOL files.I then opened the .VOL file in this program volview(mentioned above in previous post) and it gave me the whole layout of the .VOL. I then rebuilt the entire game and and burned it on a ritek g04.im just gonna have a quick go of it and then post the entire solution to backing up this game.just give me twenty minutes of gaming and ill have a full answer.

Actually I came to a conclusion, when I looked at the joined file in Zandal's volview program.I have the files, but I am missing the movie and sound files.I went and pulled those files out using CubeMedia2 player. Then I actually got 4.71Gig in size, which is the exact size of both of the .VOL files well actually 4.70Gig was the size of both of the .VOL files.I think what happened was CubeMedia2 player extracted a movie file that was duplicated or a couple of them.I will go back and look at all the movie files to see if they are copies or not,but everything seems to be extracted and the size is almost correct which is what I will do right now.

alright, i have a ps2 with a messiah chip i think something pretty old. So what should i do, buy a DMS4 chip and burn GT4 to a DL DVD+R disc and flash my DMS4 with a bootcd with toxic 1.3 on it and then run GT4 like that, or do i need to buy a hard drive and network adapter as well. Or should i wait for a patched release of GT4 that doesnt have any dvd checks, and finally if GT4 is burnable to a DVD+R DL which program should i use to do this, thanks

i gave up on GT 4 for awhile,i backed up my splinter cell chaos theory(xbox) why do they do it (sony) *L*.... with xbox games you just delete what isn't needed, make the ISO and voila!!.tell you what i can't say that iv'e heard of a program that will automatically find crosslink identical files, this feature allows you to reduce the size of the ISO to fit onto a single disc....if there IS any files identical..it worked for chaos theory, but just not quite enough,so i had to go back in,just deleted files that wasn't needed, mainly language files and deleted them, didn't have to replace with dummies.

If it was me... i know you guys are trying hard to shink the disc... but you know sony is going to produce more DL games... why not just go with the big fix. Use the DMS4 with the toxic bios... and tada... its all over everything works fine. I know several guys that are switching because of that fact. Just a suggestion. I mean if you spent the next 2 weeks shrinking this thing... is it worth the 50 bucks to buy the chip...

shrinking it shouldnt be an option. people want the full game and with gt4 its not even a problem of size because the files needed to play the game dont even come near 3gig.

its all down to these dvd checks - it must be. pretty much nobody can backup in ptp so all you can do is sit back and wait for the professionals to crack it and bring out a patch, which is going to happen sooner or later and theres most likely somebody at this moment working on it full time. otherwise this copy protection will be used on all new games and that would be the end of backing up dvd games.

the only other option is to do what i did and buy the game, which to be honest is one of the few ps2 games that really is worth the £30 i paid for it.

I guess I finally understand why guys used to get so mad in the other thread that was started... there is no more issue of ptp or otp... the damn chips can read the otp for you so there wont be an end anytime in the near future... as far as the crack goes... i doubt there will be one... the game is just too large.. you cant "Crack it". The only way around it is to buy it or to use a chip that can read otp... and they do have it now... that what I have been trying to tell you guys.

well i'm sorry to say your wrong...
maybe we haven't cracked it yet for a DVD5 disc, but there are b/ups out there on HK pressed discs....it's a matter of time :) a lot of people don't like to be beaten,so they will continue to find ways of b/up this game..
ohhhh and by the way...theres no copy protection on the game at all,by that i mean it's ripped out when we copy it to our HDD's
