sorry bout sounding like a pirate but i payed for half of my mates copy we went halves he lives next door and he was jus gonna let me make a backup copy so that we could play it both at the same time instead of taking turns and he payed slightly more than me so he has more rights to it

so as of right now there is not a single working copy of gt4 that we know about that is patched to work with current modchip technology, what happened to that torrent someone posted a while back?

i was wondering if ne one can help me identify wat type of modchip i have i know its abit off topic but if it is a DMS4 i can play GT4(YAY). i got it chiped last year for $140aus but i foolishly never asked the guy wat type of chip he put in it. so i was hoping the some of u guys out there could help me to identitfy wat type of chip i have maybe with some key things to look for. Im praying its a DMS4 but i got a bad feeling it is a sh*% messiha 2 chip or infinity. oh yeah and my model of ps2 is version 4 and it is a soldierd chip. and i dont know how to open up my ps2 to look.

there are like 55 seeds but i'm trying to down it now and getting NOWHERE. I would still suggest waiting for Toxics patch.

does anybody out there know where i can get a descent vol viewing program, i tried downloading volview, but when i opened it it comes up "component MSCOMCTL.OXC or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered.
can anyone out there give me a hand?.

Hey marco2662 nevermind it is probably adware that is messing with you.You need to fix the problem though by getting ahold of an adware program that will fix your issue.Sorry I can't really help you out on this issue,but maybe this link will further help you http://www.errornuker.com/info/01.php?hop=sygma .

hey lburna, zippoguy or any of you guys, i really need a vol extractor or vol viewer. i think im on the verge of sucessfully backing up gt4, how can i explore the gt4.mds file?
do any of you guys know a program i can download?

Try this: http://www.btinternet.com/~ps2rippininfo/tools/volview.zip But i'd also take L-burnas advice and check yer system first. If it is adware messing with you, i use Spyware Doctor, Spybot, and Adaware ALL 3. run them one after the other. they each have thier strong points and when used together kill everything. then use that link and try again

The only thing i can think of would be to open your console up and look. The mod chip will be an extra chip soldered on to the main board and should probly have the name written right on it. Like on a dms4 pro it'll be two little chips on a small board. the larger chip will say Actel on it most likely and dms4 pro in the corner of the board. I don't think there is any other way. At least not that i know of.

i'm downloading PS2 - Gran Turismo 4 USA DVD5[elitewebt3.com].torrent, i think this is working a copy, ive got the original but my little bros keep on destroying my discs. I got more games from elitewebt3 and non of them seem to have any problems. I am on 99.8% at the moment and it doesnt seem to move any higher than that even though there are a couple of people that have got 100%.

hey Sharkie, i doubt it's good. As soon as a working backup of GT4 has been made we'll all be hereing about it. Then the torrents will be made. not the other way around i would think. of course i'm still checking it out. Just in case :)

:) get back in touch with the installer,my guess is if your in oz land, like me...it's a mesiah,alladin or a duo 2.... the DMS's didn't really start coming in to oz until early last year(but hey i could be wrong )...the current price for a DMS 4 chip is around $120.00AU + install which is more than likely $50-$80.00.if you can't get in touch with your installer is to pull it apart yourself,the main thing to remember is where each screw came from...lift the top extremely carefully,otherwise you will tear the on/off and eject button ribbon,that really is the most crucial part if you just want a look see,be and watch carefully when you take the top off for that ribbon..

Hi all i have extracted the movies from the GT4L1.VOL & have extracted all the files from it, iv got the moves down to a good size now but im dont no how or were thay need to be put. there is a folder called mpeg\GT4 and there is 33 files inside but thay have no extention so i dont no how to open them, if anyone dose or has an idea of how i could then please let me know.
I need to get it all back together now cos its the rite size for a dvd5 then i can start with the dvd checks.
O yer just an update iv found a packer that will put the vol back to gether now i gust have to get the movies back in place
come on we can beat sony...

I saw someone had said that all you need is DMS4 Lite and the Toxic1.3 bios to be able to backup and play this game... now I'm still very new, and just researching what to get, and I thought that the light did not have the ability to flash stuff to it like the pro does? or is the pro just a waste of money. Also where do you find the Toxic 1.3 bios? any comments on the EZI (solderless) version of the DMS4? thanx

Yeah guys there are working backups of GT4 out there. My cousin recently returned from indonesia and he managed to pick up a working backup for a few dollars, he put it into his modded console and it works. Has anyone else also got a working backup from overseas?

Lets face it.Everyone has there theories(and believe me I am no expert) but things were obviously going to go this way.I have read otp/ptp theories, dvd-r theories, new protection theories.
This is my theory:Sony was obviously going to come up with some sort of protection on they're new games to make it as hard, if not impossible(aka swap magic) to back up.I think gt4 is just a trial for sony to evaluate to see if there new "copy protection" is beaten.Whether it will or won't no one knows for sure only time will tell.I believe ps3 will be out next year and gt4 is just a test for sony so if this disk is successfully copied they will no doubt come up with something different for the ps3.
Just my 2 cents worth.

It's not Sony doing the protection. Sony came up with ONE protection on their PS2 games : Bad data sectors readable only by the PS2.
DVD checks and all that other stuff? It's left completely up to the companies.
Blame whatever team(s) made the games with the protection that stops us from copying them.
